BANKSY PRINTS BEING SOLD ON THE HIGH STREET!!!, by thesewalls on May 14, 2008 7:17:55 GMT 1, I'm sure the quality varies greatly, depending on who made the thing of course. If your favorite master printer produced a few of your favorite pieces - especially ones you have longed for some time now - might you not be interested? But yeah, last I checked POW and BRP weren't making any of these, and if they were they would be more than 45 pounds.
These actually don't look THAT bad. Far from the real thing but a beautiful beast no doubt...at a FRACTION of the cost. Haha, just noticed it says they have them "In Stock" - what a bunch of clowns!

Massive New NICK WALKER in Brooklyn!!!, by thesewalls on May 13, 2008 4:54:07 GMT 1, kiki - yes, that statement is true for the most part, but genuine beliefs don't necessarily rule out hatred...the beliefs may in fact be grounded in hatred. it can be as complex as a state of mind, and as simple as a negative comment or reaction. it's also a word that grew out of the hip-hop movement, but is now used by all walks of life, and in the process has been diluted like so many other cultural phenomenons. the best example i can think of at the moment to sum up the idea of a 'hater' is the following phrase, popularized by some of the pioneers of Rap/Hip-Hop...Snoop Dogg for example...
"Don't hate the player, hate the game."
hope that helped.

Is Nick Walker Banksy?, by thesewalls on May 12, 2008 21:43:20 GMT 1, typical American confusion. I find it funny that everything that is outside of the U.S is either reported wrong or not at all. Half of America did not know the UK was there until David Beckham went to L.A, then i laughed when the dolphins came to Wembley to play a match and one of the players did not know we spoke English in England Sums it up really.
wow talk about sweeping generalizations. there are problems with the media worldwide my friend, and there will always be idiots to fuel your oversimplifications...way to take a few minute examples and sum up a nation with them. you have some very insightful thoughts...your point about DFace 'selling out' ages ago, only to be noticed now in light of Christina A...can't think of the other example, but you have good notions in regards to the art market as well. what happened here my dude? oh wait, i know...
as far as NW being Banksy goes, i believe some dumb slut was overly excited and failed to detect the tone of sarcasm in his voice, than ran her mouth like the dumb slut she is. i have nothing against women, some of them are just dumb sluts thats all...just like the dumb jock on the Dolphins...nice, full circle. don't forget though -

Trying a swap?, by thesewalls on May 12, 2008 20:38:45 GMT 1, i recently purchased a print from a fellow forum member. we spoke on the phone a few times and got to know each other before doing business. may be a bit old school, but i like to know where and whom my artwork is coming from. he was a cool cat too with some great stories. everything went just fine. there are many measures you could take to try and secure a solid deal, but in the end i completely agree with heavyconsumer (haha, and DYL4N, just read that one)...a cell phone, land line, email address, and home shipping address (not a PO BOX) don't hurt though...

Blu 🇮🇹 Bologna Street Art • Print Release • Art For Sale, by thesewalls on May 12, 2008 20:26:26 GMT 1, got my DEMOS print in the other day - it's HUGE and looks amazing in the flesh...gonna be a stunner on the wall. can't wait to see what goes into that empty white circle!
and yes, the art market sometimes makes NO sense. than again, sometimes a lot of things on this world make no sense. i personally will be purchasing all future BLU prints that are images of something once on a building...the transition from large scale to print form is surely an interesting one, but at the end of the day it's a GREAT print with AMAZING detail. Also, i love some of his originals, just out of my price range...his concepts are cool, techniques and style original, but the massive monsters really do it for me, hence DEMOS being my first BLU purchase.

Street Art Pictures! - A Taste of Williamsburg, by thesewalls on May 9, 2008 10:22:32 GMT 1, Nice pics, we have someone like you in London, he's called Curley LOL! Too true! ;D Cheers for making the effort posting all these pic's thesewalls. There's some really interesting pieces there- I love the Invader above the door. Who did the stencil/sticker of the guy with the camera? Not overly keen on it but I remember seeing it a few times at Cans this weekend.
I 've been wondering the same thing myself coffeelightandsweet. They just started popping up, but I'm thinking we may know the artist by a different image, considering his/hers presence at the Cans Festie. Or not. If anyone finds out please let us know.
I'm glad you all have enjoyed the photos and commented accordingly...nice to know my afternoon wasn't COMPLETELY wasted Hopefully Curley will cross paths with this thread - go team.
Peace!

Street Art Pictures! - A Taste of Williamsburg, by thesewalls on May 8, 2008 2:51:56 GMT 1, Greetings All,
I live in an area of Brooklyn with no shortage of street art. I've posted a bit of FAILE on here (their studio is around the corner), but haven't shared all the other beauties out there. So I took a nice walk and gathered the following for your viewing pleasures. There's some INVADER, DAIN, ARMSROCK, SWOON, WK, TLP, KINSEY, OBEY, KAWS, FAILE, BAST, to name a few...TOAST is in the house, haha! Like I said, this is a 'taste' of Williamsburg...a sampling of sorts. For anyone who knows the area - or potential visitors! - the pieces are located on and around Bedford Ave, between South 5th & North 12th streets. Enjoy while it's still alive; in 5 years this place will look COMPLETELY different, with condos being built left and right..but for now it still has soul...
Note: I chose not to cover 'graffiti' - tags, throws, pieces...of course what was represented - pastes, stencils, stickers, etc - are really just evolved representations of such me thinks. I grew up with graf and love it to death, just what happened this moment. Happy trails peoples.

KOONS KAWS PARLA FUTURA SUPREME EBAY ENDING 2DAY, by thesewalls on May 8, 2008 1:32:17 GMT 1, those are legit KAWS signatures. value is in the eyes of the beholder. in YOUR OPINION it's not worth 200..to some people it may be. i've particularly been looking for one of these - 'official' or not - i love the image and love the artist. and it's signed..twice. out of my price range but nice nonetheless. if people don't want to pay for it don't worry, they wont...your advice is worthless, your existence is meaningless...just my 2 cents.

got this email!!, by thesewalls on May 5, 2008 6:16:19 GMT 1, sahoria - agreed! i got the email, read it in full, checked out the defaced site, read the bull...who the hell do these people think they are? it reminds me of when graffiti artists started showing in gallerys...a time when 'street art' meant exacty that: graffiti...the words 'wheatpaste' and 'stencil' weren't on the scene yet...anyway, they were getting heat from the more 'hardcore' graf heads for 'selling out'. the art belonged on the street people claimed...the cultural significance was being lost in the transition...taken out if it's natural habitat, graffiti wasn't the same thing - a piece looked and felt different in the street vs. the gallery. even more so, by selling these pieces, the culture - one of a strong identity and hardknock values - was being commodified. whether or not they sold out is of course only a matter of opinion. i personally do not think they did. selling out is more of a feeling one gets than an attribute...a phrase thrown around for better or worse...it's become cli-che to 'sell out'. i think they even say he 'officially' sold out, right? officially sold out. think about that. now take a step back. are you my judge? it's all been done before...everything! D* has done no harm to anyone, nor anything...i suppose it's just that some critics voices are louder than others. solid prank there, just a bit militant art nazi like...just a bit. ok that's my 2 cents.

New (and old) FAILE in Brooklyn, by thesewalls on Apr 25, 2008 3:34:42 GMT 1, I posted these over on the Faile forum, but figured I'd put them up here as well, for EVERYONES viewing pleasures. They have all been done within the past month or so, with the exception of those noted otherwise, which are years old. All works are in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which is where their studio is located. Hope you enjoy the following...
very recent, bad sign placement but the art is still there
How sick is that dripped up certificate!
these are now gone, as some FAAACKER took them down...could have been the building owner, but it's been abandoned for some time now so that doesn't really make sense...bunch of savages.
standing strong
gone..
the building their studio is in...this had been there for years, but was recently painted over by the owner to perhaps 'clean' it up - crazy!
alive and well
also gone now - another fence was built around this..
alive and barking...
and some BAST, cause he's the man!
That's all for now. Next week: Invader, Swoon, Dain, Armsrock, Obey, Kaws, and many more.
PEACE!

What happened to David Choe??, by thesewalls on Apr 25, 2008 2:32:55 GMT 1, Soto in the house! Thanks for all your comments people...i love the different directions the thread went. I personally can't afford those extremely beautiful watercolors, originals, even City Girls. Was pleased to pick up a Sound Eyes for $320 on ebay, which of course influenced my post in part...maybe there are 2 sides of every artist (or hundreds of course)...the originals and shows they do, and the images they choose to make available to the general public. I guess I'm just frustrated with his latest print releases, as they do not reflect the Choe I know and love, and want hanging on my wall. Therefor, something did 'happen' in my world. I always thought it was funny that people felt the need to include 'IMO' in posts, because if it's coming out of your mouth it's obviously your opinion. I now understand the placement a bit more.
JEFF - thanks again for signing the show poster for me at your most recent J.Levine show (seriously beautiful stuff)...man it was hot temperature wise too...haha, you didn't move from that ceiling fan all show!

What happened to David Choe??, by thesewalls on Apr 24, 2008 11:04:17 GMT 1, His latest prints have been weak (with the exception of London Girl perhaps, although I strongly favor City Girl and CG2). He's put out some seriously dope ish in the past, and continues to show at high profile gallery's such as LAZ, yet his prints struggle to sell for market value. Has his street credit evaporated? Has he evolved into something 'we' or 'they' are no longer attracted to? Were people ever buying for themselves, or just for the flip? He was surely hot for a moment there...what happened? Don't get me wrong, I'd love to put CG or CG2 on my wall and leave it there forever...my Sound Eyes is going to the framers soon...honestly, I could care less about the 'secondary market value' of the prints, I just can't help but notice the decline in attraction to, and desire for, all things Choe. So...what happened to David Choe? What other artists/examples come to mind when reading this?
I suppose I should include my own opinion, which can be summed up as follows: he didn't keep his flame burning strong, the limelight shifted as it always does, and there he sits, content, as a legend in the back seat. Not saying much there I know, which is why I now beg the 'answer' - or more like opinion - from other like-minded, perhaps more experienced, fans and collectors.

Graffiti locations in NYC, by thesewalls on Apr 24, 2008 9:58:04 GMT 1, Wooster Street is a great place to start. I mean sh*t, there's an art collective named after it. Head to Canal & Wooster and walk uptown through SOHO...you'll have to do a little prioritizing, as you could spend all day hunting in that hood. (Take the N or 6 train to Canal St).
The Lower East Side (and Alphabet City, which is near by) are other great areas in NYC for graf. Start at 14th street and head north down any streets on the east side of Manhattan...2nd ave, 1st ave, Ave A, B, C, D...go as far as Houston or Delancey. Again, a big area with a lot of gems, so were back to the prioritizing thing.
Faile provides the locations of some of their street works on their website...don't remember how many are in NYC, but it's surely at least one...probably also in SOHO or the LES.
Space Invader did an NYC Invasion map a while back. if you can get your mitts on it i believe it will be a valuable tool. while i have not seen it myself, it's safe to say he chose some 'respectable' locations in the realm of street art. in turn, you will no doubt find other treasures along the way. he also has a good handful of mosaics (some done within the last few months) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, which is where Failes studio is located. Take the L train to the first stop in Brooklyn (Bedford Ave) and start walking against traffic (yes, on Bedford). Look to your right on N.5th street for an old warehouse loading dock covered with 6 Hits & Crashes. Back on Bedford, between N.5th and 4th, there's an Invader mosaic on the right side of the street, sandwiched between the coffee shop and the bookstore. Take a right on N.4th and walk 2 blocks. Turn left on Wythe and there's another big garage door covered with art - this door has been in several street art/graffiti publications. In general, Williamsburg is an amazing place for graffiti and street art! Faile, Swoon, Dain, Armsrock, Obey, etc....wheat-pasts all over the place, and huge pieces on factory's left and right. The bigger graf spots are in the north-western sector of Williamsburg - an industrial area till recently - and as a guideline you should start at Berry & N.12 and circle your way around the blocks.
If you have a car head up to the Bronx, which is LEGENDARY for its extreme amounts of some of the best graf in the world! However, as noted above, I would not take the train and walk around, as it's a big area where you will get lost and run into people who enjoy taking advantage of UFOs (out-of-towners).
OK I've spent enough time on this at the moment...you'll do just fine, have a blast, and if you're only spending one day wake your aasssss up early! Oh yeah, I almost forgot, if there's time hit up DUMBO, Brooklyn...quite plentiful over there. Haha if you want, PM me and you can hire me as a tour guide/consultant. Happy trails my friend!
