Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by Viking Surfer on Dec 5, 2015 14:38:58 GMT 1, Thank you, that's very kind. Unfortunately I've now sold the only artistic thing I owned of any real (financial) value but will continue to, attempt, at updating my knowledge through these forums. On plus side I now have a big hole on our bedroom wall and a little bit of cash in my pocket so am looking forward to spotting something that can give me as much pleasure as the Banksy did. My 8yr old daughter is the most gutted. She always thought that print was a picture of her, and as a result for years insisted on buying helium balloons, and would then let them go within about two minutes to replicate 'the picture'! I guess art inspires different people in different ways ;-)
That was really nice to read, thanks for that

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by alk416 on Dec 5, 2015 19:39:33 GMT 1, Not quite. I haven't had any paperwork back confirming test but I'm expecting around Β£15,400 on agreed terms. To be fair I've looked back at some of the notes I had in from a few galleries and I actually probably would have received a little bit more by going via them. Conversely wouldn't have the potential upside and I wouldn't have the nerves to risk eBay, so I'm still happy with route I took.Β Need to to behave myself now though as I've already treated myself to the Miss Bugs release from Thursday!Β
Yah i dont blame you for wanting the security of an auction...
Just pains me to hear bc i had placed a bid online for 16.5 plus buyers premium which should have landed me at 21 and ive been chasing this print for a bit

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by damo on Jan 8, 2016 15:26:31 GMT 1, Just had a note from Dreweatts and the buyer still hasn't paid (for the unsigned GWB). Im not sure what legal position that puts me in now as its been well over 28 days since the auction. I am tempted to get them to send it back and i'll offer it on here (once i get to 50 posts obviously ;-) as a sale price without the buyers premium would be lower than the total cost for the 'winning bid'. Although that doesn't really work if they still insist on their commission obviously.
Its pretty frustrating actually, the buyers fault but delays in payment like this are a downside of auction v. private sale i guess. Is this a common occurrence or have i just been unlucky?

Your print was most likely bought by a gallery. Once they sell it, and their buyer pays them, they'll then pay the auction house and they'll pay you. The last time I sold items at auction I waited around 2 months before I received payment.

Appreciate there would be some administrative costs if I do that but would they still apply and charge their commission also?
(They have actually just got back to me and seem very relaxed about it all, well far more relaxed than my current overdraft is!)

You'd have to read the contract to see if they guarantee payment within X amount of time but I highly doubt that they do. If you were to try and get the print back you'd most likely be liable for a heap of fees so high as to make it not worth it. A month isn't a long time to have to wait for payment from an auction house and I can see why their reply may appear nonchalant to you.

Apparently phillips was inundated with requests to consign after the last auction result. So much so in fact that they won't be taking any more until Jan '17.

I guess these haven't always been expensive prints and back in the day the owner may have thought twice around a decent framing job??
