Tate Ward selling fakes!, by ncewnimw on Feb 17, 2021 22:07:12 GMT 1, Those two Haring subway scrawls are def fake. Could def be this guy here in the south of Sweden whoโs involved (again). What makes you think they are definitely fakes?
If legit youโd need to add at least one zero on the asking prize. Also, no subway (almost) no subway scrawl can/will get anything close to a COA.

Tate Ward selling fakes!, by KGR on Feb 18, 2021 5:44:59 GMT 1, What about seeing these in person makes you think they're real? Unless you own a real one that was ripped off a wall by Keith himself and handed to you that you can compare against, I'm curious what you're basing your assessment on... I'm no expert, and I'm not saying they are 100% legit but if they are fake then someone has done an impressive job. From what I can remember, the backs are covered in layers of old advertising posters that the black paper originally covered. There is certainly some age to them based on the feel of the paper and glue used. I have worked on many of Haring's subway drawings in the past and these feel no different. However the 100+ pieces I have worked on could have also been fakes. You are right. The only way of knowing for sure is acquiring one from the man himself, which you might struggle with now. Personally I would never buy one. I'm sure he would be turning in his grave if he knew how much these were going for. These are fake.... i purchase two years ago and luckily got a refund. the guy faking them does a good job but the edges are torn to even and they have white paper stuck to the back unlike ones stolen from the subway. He even started sticking 80s movie posters to the back as well. its the guy in this article.

These are some of the image he tried to sell me... I have about 10 other works somewhere....they all have the same ripped edges, same paper on the back, same blue chalk writing. He did subway signs as well that pop up at auction houses from time to time

Tate Ward selling fakes!, by binky on Jun 26, 2021 12:08:53 GMT 1, I wanted to take the opportunity to update this thread and also make some general points regarding Tate Ward. I understand people have been looking for answers and feedback here, what we have been doing is contacting and indeed speaking to the people who have been directly affected by this issue. As opposed to people who have not been directly affected and in some cases who are simply posting with the sole intention of attempting to damage Tate Ward's reputation. A good example of this is of course the "member" who started this thread in the first place. A new member with around 16 posts all on the Tate Ward thread's. Probably a competitor, gallery or maybe who has an axe to grind. Others are busy having arguments on multiple threads so at least they are not purely focusing their negativity here. I will leave others to judge the the true motivation of this and other similar members posts, but to me it is very clear. We will not explain or justify ourselves to people who create accounts purely to try to damage our reputation. On a number of occasions the police have been mentioned and bearing in mind both Tate Ward and Nick have a very clear audit trail as to where the Tesco Petrol's have come from the police were contacted at a early stage. We have spoken to Ray Swann of the Metropolitan Police Art and Antiques Unit. Obviously this is a public forum as such we cannot into full detail here. However that situation may change in the future, if/when it does I will again update members. What I can say is that we are confident that we have contacted everyone who has have been affected by the above issue. A few havenโt responded yet, we will continue to try to contact these buyers. Not all the prints sold were fake a number were genuine. All have been offered a full refund and in addition any shipping. framing and other costs involved. The Warhol's have also been mentioned and I think fall into two distinct categories: Chanel Offest Lithograph's - these were published in 1997 by Chanel in conjunction with the Andy Warhol Foundation. The total edition is unknown we have sold multiples of these and have never had any issues whatsoever apart from some members here being unaware of the backstory to these prints. We will continue to sell these works. Warhol "Unsigned/Unnumbered ProoFor Sale". The nature of running an auction house is that when you get a strong result for an item then you tend to get offered more of the same item. Which is exactly what happened here. A consignor consigned an image, it got a strong result and we were then offered others by various different consignors. These were in a number of our auctions and during this period we didn't receive any complaints or notifications that people thought they were fake. We had done our own research pre and post sale and these are openly sold by a number of auction houses and galleries. There are 2 galleries in particular - one in Israel and one in the States. They have been established for a long time and if these works are such obvious fakes then I wonder how are they allowed to still sell them. America in particular has an incredibly litigious culture and if these are indeed fake then it seems unbelievable that they continue to openly sell them. We have contacted all the consignors and the selling galleries for further information on the history/authenticity of these items but in the meantime we are going to do two things: Firstly stop selling them until we can definitively establish the authenticity of these prooFor Sale. Secondly offer anyone who has bought one a full refund if they wish. I do not believe we can do more. I also notice that people mentioned Tate Ward selling Banksy prints without COA.We have done this on a number of occasions for clients who wanted to sell quickly and for whatever reason hadn't applied for the COA yet. We took these on a case by case basis and with the situation with the delays at PC well documented we didn't see this is a issue. Major auction houses do this all the time and again if the COA is not issued we would of course give a full refund. Tate Ward selling GDP items appears to be another criticism. GDP/PC said they were not going to issue the PC certs for two years. What they didn't say is you can't/shouldnโt sell these works, they are two very different things. I am not sure how much money the people criticising us do or don't have but to some people who won items in the GDP lottery the potential sums involved are literally life changing. If they wish sell their items to improve their lives then I really don't think either they or Tate Ward should be apologists for this. I would like to point out that we don't "make up" and use multiple forum names or post online reviews of our own business. Iโve had the same account here for 14 years. But would like thank members for the positive posts on these threads. Also a thank you to the people who have taken the time to text / email us with their support. Our last three auctions at TW were our best yet, each selling well in excess of ยฃ1m with a sell through rate of over 80% each time with the highest being 88%. We don't always get it right and clearly we have made errors here, however we have tried to rectify them to the best of our ability. Over the past few years we have sold thousands and thousands of lots and the narrative that "Tate Ward selling Fakes" really is an unfair representation of what we have achieved as an auction house. I am not sure there is any auction house that hasn't had similar issues and I genuinely believe we have done our best to reach out to people and rectify these issues. Of course this won't be good enough for some people but what is important to us, is that it is good enough to the people that have been affected. I do hope this explains our position clearly and again if anyone has been affected by these issues and hasn't been contacted then please do get in touch. This closes the matter for us we will not comment any further on either of these matters. If you wish to have a dialogue with us then please email myself Danny@tateward.com or Nick@tateward.com or arrange a call. Finally we have two auctions coming up, one in Feb online with Artsy and then our next "Live" auction in March. Both are open for consignments so please get in touch with any work you are considering selling and weโll come back to you with estimates.
This is just filler. You consider the matter now closed ?s**t the bed

Tate Ward selling fakes!, by artstylechic on Jun 26, 2021 13:09:37 GMT 1, In this recent auction of theirs, like any other recent auctions of theirs, there were many fakes sold by the criminals at Tate Ward. Both Danny and especially Nick and anyone else involved with this auction house should be ashamed of themselves. The Banksy gift prints from Dismaland and GDP they were selling looked awful. The rainbow on the print from Dismaland looked so faded - I couldโve done a better job photocopying a real one on the photocopy machine at the office. The Rat gift print from GDP had a foot outside the circle and looked wrong. Iโve seen several real ones of both of these prints and the ones they listed did not look like them at all. Itโs no wonder that 2/3 of the โofficialโ Banksy prints they sold in the auction passed with no bids. Stay away from these guys and never buy anything from their auctions. They have a very rich and documented history of fraud. There is a very high likelihood that no matter what you buy from them, whether it be a poster, a Banksy gift print, an official Banksy print (with or without โPC certificateโ), a work by a different artist such as Haring or Warhol - will be completely fake. All of the Warhol posters they sell are fake. Itโs the same with the Haring subway drawings. And make no mistake about it - these guys know what they are selling and that they are selling fakes. They do not care. Sure, they will refund your money if you come back to them with a complaint - or will not make you go through with your purchase if you raise a concern, but most do not and will not. They know this and use it to their advantage. They only try to save their public reputation so they can continue ripping more new people off. Stay away from these criminals. They are absolute liars and frauds. The many fake Tesco Petrol Bomb posters that Nick was selling both on this forum and in their auctions were just the tip of a a very large iceberg. These guys have sold millions of pounds worth of fakes and gotten away with it, so far. They are slick liars. But they are dealing with real money from many clients. They are complete and total liars and should both be in jail. With all of the information out there about these guys, anyone who does any business or buys from these fraudsters deserves to have their head examined.

Tate Ward selling fakes!, by binky on Jun 26, 2021 15:08:59 GMT 1, Collectors can be very reluctant to accept that they have been ripped off. The big grant & Lee fraud of a while back showed that many were not willing to voluntarily raise the issue even when contacted by the police. To feel that you have been ruthlessly ripped off isnโt a good place to be.
This boom in banksy tat hawking - Itโs carpetbagging writ large and those nimble enough to take advantage of a bubble and make a profit are moral free scumbags - and there are plenty about
Although Iโm sure an apology will satisfy everyone . This matter is now considered closed seems to be a meme of our times

Tate Ward selling fakes!, by esfer on Jun 27, 2021 6:10:11 GMT 1, Regarding Haring Chalk drawings, unless they are pictured in the Art in Transit book, I would never even consider purchasing one of those.
That book was documented during Haring's life, while they were actually installed in the subway. This is the only true verifiable method of proof. Each being original like a fingerprint, cannot be copied or faked.
Buyer beware indeed.

35% on buyers and sellers fees of ยฃ400k on sales of these chalk subway drawings the last few auctions is quite something... I love the beautiful hand torn decked edges on all these going through TW ๐คฃ Very different from the genuine ones, yet no alarm bells are ringing๐
