I went to a Warhol exhibition in Prague a few years ago and had a look around the gift shop. The usual stuff, Marilyn posters, soup can posters, flower posters… never the cow. I’d been to so many Warhol shows by this point and never found a cow poster.
The woman in the shop asked if she could help me and I said I really loved the Cow wallpaper and reluctantly asked if they had a poster of it.
She said she thought she’d seen one and disappeared around the back. I waited a few minutes knowing she’d come back empty handed (or with a mug with it on) otherwise why wouldn’t they have it on display?
She only bloody found one.
Would love to own a real one one day but until then there’s a bit of magic in this one. To this day I can’t find another example of this poster online… it was a Czech Christmas miracle.

But tick more than 2k more when I was already stretching my budget to the absolute limit was not worth it for me. This is something I’m going to frame and display for the rest of my life (I guess) so don’t really care about absolute mint vs this one (which is v good condition), in a way I don’t mind a 50+ year old piece not being mint. As for the stamp from the foundation I discussed provenance with Christie’s of course and I’m happy with that, combined with the fact I bought it from a major house (in case I does end up being sold sometime in the very distant future).
