Agree - why would an auction house put that kind of estimate on them? You have to question there knowledge when you see things like that. Real mixed bag in yesterdays auction, lots of rubbish, fewer gems than usual!

Agree - why would an auction house put that kind of estimate on them? You have to question there knowledge when you see things like that. Real mixed bag in yesterdays auction, lots of rubbish, fewer gems than usual!

Pretty sure they were listed at Tate Ward before NGV released them again.  Have a look at ebay prices when people thought they weren't available at the source.

The seller could have reduced their reserve and they would have still made a good profit as (if I recall correctly) they only just passed.

As others have said... Shipping cost is crazy. Import duty on that too probably... and 2 month wait to get them!
Plus the cost of framing and time/effort to get it done.
A bit expensive, but I can see people still going for them.

I bought these shipped to UK for around £65 (plus potential customs charge). Seemed reasonable to me. Are you sure your shipping figure is current? Think they lowered it.

A huge escalation in prices given you could buy a u/s LIITA 5 years ago for under £6k and U/S Girl With Balloon for £10-13k.

There is clearly a different kind of Banksy buyer now.

In my industry we call it 'real money'

A lot of his work is going into collections and wont come out. This leads to price squeezes and why we're seeing record after record being broken, this week is a prime example.

Yes, its on another level now. I had a look around the galleries that usually have a good selection of Banksy prints, really not much available, couldn't find any GWB, Laugh Now, LIITA, CYW, Kates, NOLA etc. I can't seem to find any galleries in London or NY with any original pieces either. Given its going to be bonus season in the next few months, I can certainly see there being even less available and like you said once they get into a wealthy collectors hands, they'll probably be parked there for quite some time.

Its not going to be easy to get on the Banksy ladder moving forward.

The prices listed on Tateward include the Buyers Premium.

One of the pieces in the auction was mine and the price now showing on Tateward is higher than the hammer price when I was watching the auction.
