Forum Auctions, Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by The Greased Piglet on Feb 23, 2023 2:43:53 GMT 1, So we are comparing Banksy to Jimmy Saville now, this is going great. Well I need to be somewhere... It's already stated that Banksy is a collective. If you know better and can prove Banksy is indeed one person, then prove the allegations of fraud wrong. You can't be certain of anything if you don't know who Banksy is. I actually never made the comparison, I only responded to your charity excuse. But interesting how you perceived it that way. mate, get a hobby and let go of the resentment you'll sleep better and lower your risk of colon cancer.

Forum Auctions, Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by LJCal on Feb 23, 2023 2:58:04 GMT 1, my two cents, with the exception of one or two lots these results are very much in line with where the market is, given that Forum are willing to do deals on fees it may well be that even though works could have sold for more at one of the big boys the seller may be no worse/better off. A few results exceeded my expectations and I know people always say this but a few prints had serious condition issues, so I would look at the reports before drawing too many conclusions.
Everyone whinging about Forum tanking the Banksy market, I hate to break it to you but they're not in business to protect the value of your assets by restricting supply, if sellers want to sell and as long as there is one buyer out there willing to bid then the market will find a way of making things happen, in other words even if Forum slowed down someone else would step in to fill the void. The fact is when the market was hot, the sales couldn't come fast enough for most people now complaining, everyone felt great about themselves when the value of their print went up Β£10k every other week when a new auction record was set. So sorry guys that was the time to sell, blaming one auction house for the state of his market is foolish and just sour grapes, it was just another asset bubble like many that have gone before and it won't be the last.

I couldn't agree more with this post. I love (and hate that I love so much) Banksy. Markets go up. Markets go down. The nimble make a great profit from this (don't worry, I am not including myself in that group - I am not nimble). Auctions are usually a great reference point. Some get overheated and prices get silly (during good times) and some get silly in the other direction (in bad times), Once a swing in either direction gets started, it becomes dangerous calling a top or a bottom. At the end of a day, all these are is ink/ paint applied to a piece of paper. I would think all of us would be optimistic. If you don't own a Banksy, they are getting within reach. If you do own a Banksy (or twenty) and have some cash on the side, back up the truck. Opportunity is here. Either way, buy what you love and don't be doing it to make money.

Forum Auctions, Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by cemltz on Feb 23, 2023 4:46:47 GMT 1, It's already stated that Banksy is a collective. If you know better and can prove Banksy is indeed one person, then prove the allegations of fraud wrong. You can't be certain of anything if you don't know who Banksy is. Think about this. Go back, and read it slowly. Think. About. This.
Summary of basic argument: it has been βstatedβ that something is true, and since you cannot disprove it, it is true. Since you donβt know who Banksy is you cannot argue against me. So I am right. Despite my not knowing who Banksy is either.
This is the Internet in 2023.

Forum Auctions, Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by The Italian One on Feb 23, 2023 9:29:18 GMT 1, isn't this a perfect time for Banksy's collector to add some new pieces? every one blaming on prices, but very few of us are taking the risk to keep buying...
BTW hands off to Banksy, he is the GOAT!!! no matter if he is men or woman white asian or black a collective or single person, no matter if he is gay etero bisexual or married and have child. No matter how he manage the sales of his art or how much PC need to answer or to issue a COA !! don't need/want to know nothing about his private life neither I can't care less of who Banksy is..
let's just hope he doesn't stop making art and give the shake humanity need every now and then.

Itβs not just Forum as some will lead you to believe. All price levels are down and forum offer theirs via artsy before the auction which I think is the biggest platform to advertise artwork so the marketβs eyes are seeing BANKSY offerings, but are choosing to go for other artists at the price levels.

Forum Auctions, Banksy Marketplace π¬π§, by JFCC on Feb 23, 2023 15:39:58 GMT 1, Lots of very sage words, with which I totally agree. I have always said the market is depressed and has gone in to a serious decline, which ultimately will reverse, as history has shows us time and time again. My point though is Forum should have adapted more and evolved. Unfortunately for everyone, they are trotting out the same tired format time and time again. There were no bidders at the auction this week!
As art professionals and business people Forum should be mixing up their catalogues to have broader appeal, to target new parts of the market and bring bidders in. 15 pieces by the same artist, every month, does not entice new customers. All the big auction houses have evolved already! Businesses need to evolve or die, I hope Forum do evolve as I like them a lot and have bought many, many works from them!!
Finally I totally agree if you are βcash richβ and believe in the artist as an investment buy now, I haveβ¦certainly Forum has been the place to buy!!

Look at Damien Hirst, he has a whole team behind it. Don't think he painted a single currency original, but its still a Damien Hirst. I would argue that most of Banksy's work is quite distinctive, and most people on this forum would be able to recognise a new work on the street as a Banksy. This would be harder if it were a collective, everyone would have a slightly different style. Not to say he wouldn't have a team, and would have had help and collaborated with many other artists.

I suspect invader who saw prices skyrocket when banksy became unobtainable won't be far behind. I am waiting to pounce. Full disclosure I own works by both and didn't sell during what I think was the peak because I live them too damn much

Yeah I'd agree they need to find ways to freshen things up. To be fair their main prints sale this month is pretty good for a small independent auction house and has some decent lots. Maybe they should start trying to broker more private sales as well rather than having the same unsigned prints come up again and again.
