Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by Deleted on Jan 27, 2016 1:17:59 GMT 1, Confiscating refugees assets or confiscating migrants assets? Is Denmark targeting Syrian refugees who have made their way to Denmark or is Denmark targetting all nationality migrants? It's to do with some law about having assets and claiming benefits in Denmark that applies to Danish people so they decided to apply this law too all migrants into Denmark. Personally I do not believe that confiscating assets of refugees or migrants into Denmark is the right thing to do. I'm more concerned with security than money and with all the threats from Isis and jihadists and events that happened recently in France and europe. That all migrants should be interviewed and all their mobile phones checked to make sure they have no jihadist support content on them. Plus it is also a way of a migrant confirming which country they have come from by them showing who they have been in contact with in which country. It's a bit big brother I know but considering some have declared war on us it's something that can aid in security and catching bad people if there are any that want to enter posing as refugees or migrants. Ploppi if you are going to use my quote or anyone else then be honest to the original. I never mentioned migrants, REFUGEES! They are REFUGEES.
Can you clarify if the "refugees" you refer to have been given refugee status in Europe or are applying for refugee status in Denmark and which countries these refugees are from.

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by Deleted on Jan 27, 2016 1:27:07 GMT 1, Someone who is an artist once made an artwork about an Elephant in the room. I'm trying to think who it was.
I totally agree with the fact that refugees should be helped given shelter housing and escape from the conflict zone or place of danger by countries with the resources to be able to help them.
I have no problems with migration and migrants choosing a country they want to migrate too and live in and following that countries procedures for entry. The rules should apply to everybody equally no matter where they come from.
I do support helping migrants to integrate too into the society and culture of the country and it's values that they decide to migrate to and live in.
I am not ignoring the elephant in the room.

I like Lauryn Hill a lot. I think she was too outspoken for some people in the music industry and had baseless rumours made about her. Too many of the wrong people and opportunists in the music biz.

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by Dr Plip on Jan 27, 2016 1:52:50 GMT 1, Some days I think that if you've the last 6 months or a year of your life basically living The Hunger Games, if you can make it to London, you should be entitled to a s**t flat somewhere. Not everyone's cut out for paperwork, visas and legal fees.
I nearly did the same when I lived in Canada. I had the option of filling out paperwork for a year, spending thousands of dollars on legal stuff, etc. OR I could spend my time in the forests of British Columbia hiding from the Mounties.
Which was the more difficult option? Who knows?

There are lots of people homeless on the streets in the UK that get stepped over by people who see them as worthless and of no value.
Society is slightly warped.
What about the bears in Canada weren't you worried about them?

Edit: I strongly urge everyone to go and live in Canada. It's lovely. And the Canadians are so friendly, they won't tear gas or taser you or anything.

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by FЯ on Jan 27, 2016 8:43:16 GMT 1, COMPLAINTS. I have had a few complaints about a few members posts regarding migrants and racism. Of course posts and members can be removed from the forum, but is that always the right thing to do? The World is full of people of different beliefs, religions, backgrounds and lifestyles, and we can all learn a little from each other even if we totally disagree. At the moment I feel it's better to let you all debate and discuss these types of subjects. Yeah, I agree Dan, live and let die. Just because somone gets offended by something does not mean they are right.

To quote Edmund Burke "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing". If there has been complaints of racism then the Forum Guardians have a duty to investigate and stamp it out and if necessary chuck offending member/s off the forum. I joined this forum to discuss art not to hale personal insults as some people here have a habit of doing.

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by kaos on Jan 27, 2016 15:44:25 GMT 1, Ploppi if you are going to use my quote or anyone else then be honest to the original. I never mentioned migrants, REFUGEES! They are REFUGEES. Can you clarify if the "refugees" you refer to have been given refugee status in Europe or are applying for refugee status in Denmark and which countries these refugees are from. First of all Ploppi it's not your fault, it's the media that insists upon calling the refugees migrants in the same way that most of British media insists on the term Islamic State when there is no such place. It is important to use the correct term because migrant have no rights whereas Refugees do. Our democratically elected governments are signatory to the charter which offers protection to Refugees. Secondly just because a person has not been 'registered' as a refugee it does not mean they are not a refugee. It does not mean that they did not leave their homes and their possessions. The definition of REFUGEE according to the Oxford English dictionary is "A person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster". The 1951 Refugee Convention spells out that a refugee is someone who "owing to a well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality, and is unable to, or owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country." Thirdly, it really does not matter where they are coming from. I'm guessing your inquiry into this is assuming that those coming from non-waring countries are not refugees. As stated clearly above the 1951 Refugee Convention states a Refugee is not only escaping from war. They are running away from persecution. Who are we to say that someone is not running away persecution as we sit here in the comfort of our homes. There are better qualified people than us on the ground who are doing this job.
I hope this is of help and clarifies what I was trying to say.

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by Lroy on Jan 27, 2016 18:38:31 GMT 1, As I said before, we can find all kind of stuff in this thread...
Why ? maybe because - even If Banksy is very sensitive about the Syrian question - what does this stencil means in deepness? and what answer could we give to him , to us, to migrants and to all world ? It denounces a french brutality because migrants ( I did not see any kids nor families but mostly youths that did not want to leave this place - anyway it is not a reason ) have to move from the jungle, to go in a new " better " place with commodities ? Well, It happens everywhere, for French people too, in all the countries ( worst in Germany, Us, China and Russia per example ) , we know cops, and We are agree IT SHOULD NOT Happened.
As unusual, Banksy did not took " distanciation " with his artwork ( was it too much upset ? ) with the subject - as most of his stencils, I think to the plush instead of Rodney King - and I think that the lack of distanciation, that makes this image just good, but not enough, without a right and clear message. And that's why I have tought to C215 when I saw first this artwork, C215 never takes any distance with his painting.. And I am a bit confused when I saw a french flag, I don't like it ( Well the bar code is a great idea I reckon )
I am trying to be honest with me and you about this artwork and his message... Sorry If I am clumsy sometimes.
It looks a bit like an old Harlequin ( sorry ) cover for Les Miserables - sic, or from an pic in an History schoolbook, well realised of course, but not with the Banksy touch ( apart the barcode ).
I don't still understand why Les Miserables ? it is a so particular and great novel from another age, and not a musical : Cosette was abandonned by her mother because she had too, she was beaten and worked hard for her bastards bosses.. and She finds Jean Valjean to help her, and there is hope at the end, " happy " end, etc...
The shortcut is really easy... and the harder has to come. I know that is the actual fight of Banksy. We could criticize also the boats that sink over the seas, but what can we do ? War are terrible, and it is not our bombs on Daech - where is Daesh, Isis/El ? they are everywhere, in the minds first and not only in some fighting countries ) that will help to stop this terrible crisis with dramatic issues.
Anyway, why not, in the other side, to denounce this gas and this battle... that's ok.

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by Lroy on Jan 27, 2016 19:58:20 GMT 1, COMPLAINTS.
I am not racist, I am not anti-semitic..But I try..
( black humour of course, should I have to justify? )

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by Dr Plip on Jan 27, 2016 21:20:52 GMT 1, Yeah, go ahead and quote Daniel Silk while joking around. I've got your personal email, yeah? what does it mean ? Did you have few beers and what is the relation with my personal email lol ? I can write it here if you want I don't care ... It is a quote ( have I to justify ? ) that I have found alone and tweeted tonight , nothing to see with Daniel Silk ( who is he ? The boss I know but I don't know him he never spoke to me not answered me ) , I just put it here because he spoke about racism , and, at the contrary, it was to go on his way , lol ! I like this quote , it could be fur everyone in this mad world ! Were you upset ? Nah, I wasn't upset my friend. I was just joking that you were joking.

Banksy Street Art • Les Miserables, by Lroy on Jan 27, 2016 21:38:31 GMT 1, Ouh la la.. Too much complicated tonight for a " poor French " ( lol ) that do not understand well English. In fact my quote was a bit serious ( not with DS ) but on Twitter , and a black mate liked it : it means that in fact ( we all known that we have a part of racism or xenophobia in us ( but not me - it is intellectuals saying that since decades ), but, THIS quitte ( That is not a great suite anyway ) could mean : I m no racist nor anti-Semitic and I can resist , instead of " I am no racist nor anti-Semitic but I can't resist ( or I try ) , I mean media and politics always talking about ( sorry for this iconoclastic mix ) , migrants, attacks, Muslims, unemployed people, murders, etc etc ... could make people becoming racist ( look at the Bational Front or Ukip increase ) .. So, I think that this first quite that I have found is like a big f**k( " I try "... to what ? To resist ? To learn how to be one of them ? To be one of them - but I won't have any rotten, poor and sick brains as racists ) ? In fact, this quietus not bad and mock them ! Putting them in derision ! No prob doc !
