The French government deserves to be criticised for the situation in Calais and playing chess with the UK.
The reason the French police use tear gas so much is because the government refuses to allow enough police in Calais to be able to deal with things properly. The police are very few compared to the migrants and use tear gas to prevent being attacked and things getting out of hand.
Plus the Gendarmes are recruited from the military and one thing is sure. If the French police tell you to move back or disperse. It's advisable to do that. They take no prisoners.

Scaffold team, big plastic non transparent sheeting to work behind, road work uniforms etc etc. Or just one guy with a cardboard stencil and a couple of spray cans.

I know I will come across as a fan boy, but personally I think this is a strong piece. It doesn't have the humour of most of his work. I see it as being quite an angry piece, and having now seen the camp at Calais come under such a ferocious attack, I'm not surprised.
The execution is good in my opinion. But the best thing about this piece, for me, is the audacity of the placement. That's what makes it a strong piece for me.

Funnily enough, I liked the image before I knew anything about the possible artist. I kinda thought it might be someone other than Banksy. Someone else putting out a good piece of work. It's not an investment, so I don't care who made it, the work speaks for itself. |
