Zhao πΈπ¬ Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by highly framable on Jun 5, 2013 4:17:17 GMT 1, thanks Plip, Minibear and James!
to Minibear - super kind words - thanks much! to Plip - yes. zhao has tried a lot of variations, including printing on a thick tube to have it wrapped around, the warhol multiple is something he's working on now (hence the unconfirmed release date - as we'd like to release these specials together). the current variants is the one he's most happy with as it has more "resonance" aesthetically.
to James - totally understand how you feel about the "roughness". zhao makes everything very roughly and by hand (even the screens are handmade!), we've advised him many times to have them professionally printed, which would cost less, take less time, and possibly look a whole lot sharper and more accurate, but he refused. maybe one day.... :/ as for the message - it's everything and nothing. the soldier had it coming, or was it re-active or pro-active? the viewer decides everytime he/she looks.
no it's not seen on the streets of Singapore. because it's against the law. Is all we are going to say on that subject. hope you understand!

Zhao πΈπ¬ Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by james2g on Jun 5, 2013 4:54:26 GMT 1, Thats my gripe, its illegal to paint almost everywhere, but people do it because they want their message seen by the public, thats what makes this movement (or made it should I say) so interesting and thought provolking, I'm sure if he cared enough about this image he'd be able to find somewhere to paint it on the streets in Singapore, it would make it less fake and consumer driven.
Zero and Killer Gerbil both paint the streets of Singapore.
I don't want to look like I'm getting on your backs, I just don't like to see this scene getting rinsed out by pretenders, for Mr Brain Wash to Nick Walker, you're just todays flavor.

Zhao πΈπ¬ Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by highly framable on Jun 5, 2013 10:05:11 GMT 1, hi james,
we agree with you. we are trying our darnest to not be pretenders. but we need longevity too, and this really isn't our day jobs (obviously!) and we know people who have been caught and have had very close brushes. we nudge forward in own careful ways. we see ourselves as the "bravest chickenshits" in the world. hopefully, one day things can be easier. till then, keep commenting and wish us luck!

Zhao πΈπ¬ Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by Deleted on Jun 5, 2013 21:32:29 GMT 1, To be fair to this artist, getting caught painting on walls in public in Singapore is totally different to getting caught over here or in the states. I've been to Singapore and the penalties for doing ANYTHING even remotely 'naughty' are huge. Over here could be a caution or a small fine but over there it could be a huge fine or getting 50 lashes in public.
Fair play to the other artists who do paint illegally in public as they are genuine taking a big risk.
Gotta say though that this print does nothing for me.

Zhao πΈπ¬ Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by highly framable on Jun 6, 2013 3:25:25 GMT 1, thanks amboguy! it's getting a little easier and less harsh. Sticker Lady (our latest high profile vandal, got off with community service) - but the word is still very much...don't test their wrath!
as for the piece, sorry about not doing anything for you... hope the feeling changes and grows... it took a while but it did for some...

Zhao πΈπ¬ Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by swamped on Jun 6, 2013 3:40:27 GMT 1, This image is so simply done it just dose not seem to creative over all, the fact you have to try and explain what it is and means kind of says it all, I think that's what james was getting after. If it were more detailed and looked better close up I might feel different about it, but to each there own and keep at it, just maybe spend some more time with the exacto next go around. Wouldn't make my wall but I don't hate it by any means...

Zhao πΈπ¬ Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by highly framable on Jun 6, 2013 7:17:18 GMT 1, you're right swamped.
it's too simple and rough.
that's the impression one of us got and was quite vocal about it too. too simple to invest in a such a large ed with such a large piece of (expensive) paper.
ah well.... such is life.
thanks for not hating it!

Zhao πΈπ¬ Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by swamped on Jun 6, 2013 7:28:43 GMT 1, Just an after thought here, maybe do some light hand finishing to the editions to jazz them up a little? I think very little effort in the finishing touches would put this image over the top and help get us collectors more warmed up to it. Not a ton just some here and there to set the image off properly. I would bite on it if that was the case. Just a thought....cheers!

Zhao πΈπ¬ Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by behaviorist on Jun 6, 2013 7:37:22 GMT 1, I found myself reading and re-reading this thread, just trying to figure it out. "highlyframable" writes as if he's not Zhao but as someone who has immediate access to Zhao and his/her intentions and ideas. So strange.
And the print: it's an interesting image, but the piece feels overwrought the moment it's placed in a historical or philosophical context. And the single color print doesn't work in my opinion, if for no other reason than because the helmet disappears, so the soldier's head looks...funny.

Zhao πΈπ¬ Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by highly framable on Jun 6, 2013 7:58:23 GMT 1, highlyframable is zhao, sometimes.. like now.
most of the time, however, it's cw, lynda, mikael, retying my text when i'm away, like the few posts above.
sometimes gentlemental has a go too.
it's a village bicycle kind of account.
and yes. it works differently as a single color, i wanted the single color version to feel like a fleeting impression.
there will be some uniques I'm working on, but it feels too heavy handed right now... i like the ultra simplicity of the idea...not sure when they're right, hopefully they will be released together with the regular editions.
thank you all for your comments. every single one adds to the art, and makes it richer, warts and all.

Zhao πΈπ¬ Print Release β’ Show News β’ Art For Sale, by james2g on Jun 6, 2013 13:13:16 GMT 1, The reason people change their names in this ''business'' is because they break the law, not becuase its cool.
Honestly man, make a decent name for yourself with thought provolking, powerful, images, either on or off the street before going ''hey I've got a new editions of screen prints to sell you all''.

Yes. Johnnyh. You're right about the knock-offness of these.
It is a fakey of a fakey.
Despite all the fake smiles he's made, Yue MinJun isn't really unhappy, maybe?
A fake frown?
There is joy in there.
Fucks your mind up somewhat staring at these things. Because the smile is still there. It flickers. Ever so often.
Anyhoo I've seen them in the flesh, and they are not big, (and yes) shabby and quite precious looking.
getting one, johnnyh?

Not my thing find it a bit sad. This gas nothing to do with our previous. You can go back check my posts as I know yo love to do..... I just don't like things that basically just take from some one else's work for monetary gain. It's a cash based piece using someone else's talent.
Better you lot do something original than this in my view

ok. here we go...
nothing's original. not banksy's rats, not warhol's screenprints, not even hirst's er... everything he's ever done ever, ever(?)
i think that is the point of the piece (see zhao's quote above) - art IS theft. Steal it from the pompous and rich, consume it and f**k it up. why the heck not? fakes have a great f u power to the man.
