It seems to be used to describe anyone one does not agree with. If art is promoted on an art forum, as a commercial venture, is it not open to critique, whether that be regarding its originality, quality, or even whether the style of the signature has been plagiarised? BNE for example ? All art is open to criticism. In particular art which has a social or political message which appeals to certain people and the artist or gallery etc uses socio political messages as a selling point.

But saying that, I myself wouldn't buy from some artists because of their attitude, but the difference is that I understand that's just my personal view of that person and I don't feel the need to troll threads about them  We all have the choice not to buy from an Artist for whatever reason we personally decide.
It seems one has to have a left wing agenda to be accepted, rather than having no agenda and expressing an opinion.
I also get notice that team Banksy has a thuggish vibe and seem to be very very very thin skinned , the darlings don't like questions or critisism
There again it's all about making money.

Tripe. If anything those with right wing views (or what appear to me to be) have been more vocal on this forum of late. I don't consider myself to be part of any clique.

Now, I happen to like a bit of Kate Bush music, so I now have to separate the art from the artist.
Some will choose not to do that or can't do that.
But on an art forum, there has to be something between "If you haven't got anything nice to say, then don't say anything" and "Stop trolling, stop trolling, you're all just haters, haters, you're all just haters".
The best artists push back in the face of criticism.
Time will usually tell if a person is an artist or a person looking to make money out of art.
And also..... life is pain.

Perhaps undo some of the negativity and answer some of the question regarding his work. Too often, artists on here gain some success and then leave, never to post again, except for advertising their latest release. Because who can be bothered with the hassle and opinions are bad for business. But I think sometimes it's good to reach out and touch your fans. Not in a 1970s BBC way though. And most people believe that FR is JBoy, and he takes a bit of stick for that. It might be nice if JBoy came out and took some heat off him. Anyway, this is all just my opinion. No harm, no fowl. I love you all. Peace
None of the artists really use forums as social media is more effective, as you can see by their instagram accounts etc. All have huge mailing lists as well so have no reason to come on here and get hassle.

But I don't see it as so much the site becoming out of date, I think it's more about the site getting to a level where collectors, artists and galleries becoming afraid of the freedom of speech here. They prefer social media where they can monitor and remove comments that might damage them that of course is totally understandable, but I think a forum like this will always have a place in the art scene.

It has never been obvious to me that this is happening.

I agree that the Jboy releases and threads here are calculated to get a rise out of the crowd (no other reason, they are just not that good / seem like basic level art school work to me combined with weak ideas) but again everyone needs to eat and if mimes and rainbows pay your wage there are worse ways of making money, just don't pretend it has any relevance. That said, the last Jboy release (blinky fish) received similar bashing with Daniel again stepping out to defend Jboy and complain about the bashing.

Cheers I agree that the Jboy releases and threads here are calculated to get a rise out of the crowd (no other reason, they are just not that good / seem like basic level art school work to me combined with weak ideas) but again everyone needs to eat and if mimes and rainbows pay your wage there are worse ways of making money, just don't pretend it has any relevance. That said, the last Jboy release (blinky fish) received similar bashing with Daniel again stepping out to defend Jboy and complain about the bashing. |

Never said there wasn't any appeal. I would think mining tropes a great way to find an audience, just have to be content with a less knowledgable audience, and willing to play to said audience.
