"This powerful street piece, titled "Salvation", was created by the Iranian artist @hamidnikkhah in 2020 on the streets of Marivan, Iran. It is now more resonant than ever, given the country's current situation in the wake of the killing of #MahsaAmini."

Pretty sure ppl painted silhouettes before.
And if you read my posts, I said before I was a fan once - guess it's not allowed to change opinion because you find out someone is not who he pretended to be ? Painted in 2016. Way before the fraud Guess all ppl who liked Savile weren't allowed to change their opinion when his dirty laundry was aired ?
Plus now you say "No way that's Banksy " but just a few hours ago you liked the comment about it's the best Banksy so far π hypocrisy is strong.

Silly goose, merely pointing out that it's a nice little technically fine stencil for 2020 even if a little over sentimental when seen out of context, but in the context of Iran, it works. It's important to see things in context, which with your Savile/Banksy quip, is obviously something you struggle with. You thought it was Banksy, you hated on it. The problem is within you, not anyone else on this board. It's unclear to members how he may have hurt you and your husband, but I'm confident it wasn't on Savile's level of abuse. As a stencil artists yourself, you need to perhaps be a little more open and less critical of others street work, less they make comparisons with your own.

Banksy in Kiev, Ukraine πΊπ¦, by Minecrafter on Nov 15, 2022 15:36:11 GMT 1, 1. You used a piece I painted 6 years ago. You've no idea what skills I have as I rarely share what I paint. Plus it's not about my talent. I bet with you most people voicing their opinion on an streetart piece can barely hold a can the right way. They still are entitled to say if something is good or not , are they ?
2. I wasn't "hating" on that piece. I said it's unoriginal and it's badly executed. Banksy or no Banksy And I stick with that. I think I have the right to voice my opinion. Or is that right reserved for Banksy fans ?
As said before , I can admit if a piece is painted good , if it's an original idea and no rip off and I also can admit when someone is talented. But so far, Banksy was incredibly disappointing in what they delivered.

I think they are great. Love the way he and other artists have the balls to do this stuff and bring what is happening back to the forefront

And of course you're entitled to your opinion, in fact in the history of the "entitled to my opinion" defense you can pretty much bet it's an opnion that's already been voiced. But it's an art forum, and presumably your opinion forms the basis of an argument you can back up and defend. And in this case, the stencil is quite well executed and in the context of Iran, originality doesn't come into it. It's fit for purpose. So your opinion, entitled or not, is objectively wrong. End of story.

Banksy in Kiev, Ukraine πΊπ¦, by Not 4 The Thril on Nov 15, 2022 17:45:32 GMT 1, Anyone wanna talk about the art? Itβs been a year since Banksy posted up new works and now weβve got 6 to discuss Anyone? Art? Banksy? The art of Banksy ? Anyone? Has someone got 15 words worth of vocabulary to discuss these new artworks by Banksy ? Hit me This is probably the conversation Banksy would want. This is probably the conversation Banksy would want. Of the six new pieces this is my personal ranking if anyone cares:
1) Karate Kid: Beautiful oversized classic Banksy image. Little guy overpowering the big guy. Great shading, instantly recognizable as a Banksy. Strange that the placement is floating in the middle of the wall. Maybe if photographed from another angle it will make more sense.
2) Bath tub man: Great placement. Really stands out in the environment. Stark two tone image- well executed.
3) Dick Cannon: Funny, classic B. Thrown up in a public/busy place.
4) Ribbon Girl: Beautiful and delicate. A bit dark against the dark building. I love that the neck brace is a slightly different color.
5) Seesaw kids: Classic cheeky B. Looks a bit rushed as it looks very public.
6) Gymnastics girl: Great placement. It looks 'good from far but far from far from good'. Looks a little sloppy/ rushed or as if someone else did this piece. But theyre in an active war zone so who am I to critique.
7) Gas mask woman: Looks a bit small, like someone was trying to make their version of a Banksy in 2012. When you see it next to the burnt window it makes a bit more sense. Not my favorite.
I really hope we get a video or at least some better photos from B. I wonder what the hold up is/ what happened. All these pieces are kind of going under the radar w/o an official post on his IG.

Banksy in Kiev, Ukraine πΊπ¦, by Gnocchi Friends on Nov 16, 2022 10:26:54 GMT 1, That's a fair point, except these are paintings in the fine art genre. They just happen to be on walls in an active war zone.
In each one there is a focus point. Overspray as you describe is a tool to guide the eye to that focus point. Perfect is not always perfect. The judo throw, has energy and movement, you are drawn to the face of the child, and the determination thereon. Your eye travels around the plane, and is brought back to the face. This is a visual tool. It's been used for centuries in art. It's why when you look at liberty leading the people you see the hand and flag before you see the wonky foot in the bottom right corner. Banksy is as classical an artist as we have today, he just choose aerosol not linseed. This is why Banksy has the top spot. And a place in the history books that are on the fine art shelf.

Banksy in Kiev, Ukraine πΊπ¦, by Daniel Silk on Nov 17, 2022 2:06:30 GMT 1, Looks like someone has put some protection around this Banksy piece.
Question - In the long-term, what will happen to these pieces? I guess some of the buildings could be demolished? If they are beyond repair? So will they get cut out? Maybe brought together in a museum in Ukraine as a permanent reminder of the war?

Banksy in Kiev, Ukraine πΊπ¦, by Gnocchi Friends on Nov 17, 2022 7:58:59 GMT 1, Talking about the actual art. Banksy uses classical tools to draw the images. Golden sections, triangles, focal points, and blurred edges to paint and create images. It's not a case of overspray or accidental messiness it's very practiced, well over 25 years, art making. Academically these are perfect. They follow the rules, but of course the anarchy is the location. I noticed that some are now protected.
The CCTV footage looks like a prank, and I imagine that in time we shall see more. The judo throw, is perfect. The use of shadow to shape the child's face, the energy and determination. The downwards thrust, and the way you focus on the gap beneath the shoulder. This is one I would love to see close up. It's beautiful. Just beautiful.

Banksy in Kiev, Ukraine πΊπ¦, by Pete the Post on Nov 17, 2022 8:49:14 GMT 1, This video is odd people. Why release a fake seems too obvious . What do you think? He looks like Landru, the French serial killer... it's fun as we seem to be in a mute movie.. Anyway, on the pic above he has been caught...
Ha ha your so right, the lack of sound and the clunky seeming movement is just like the old Saturday morning silent movies we used to get. Keystone cops, Harold Lloyd etc.

The quick spray of the first one makes more sense now, the rest have had time spent on them creating them. I would imagine most were done in advance and covered. Then the last one was done quick and they were off with the others being uncovered after. Slick, less chance of being watched for.

Banksy in Kiev, Ukraine πΊπ¦, by Not 4 The Thril on Nov 17, 2022 15:50:00 GMT 1, I feel like everyone is still glossing over the fact than B hasn't confirmed the pieces himself or posted anything about his trip. No photos on his website- no IG posts aside from 1 piece.
Even when he went to war torn Gaza he made a video. Jo Brooks has confirmed/posted about 4 pieces but not the most stunning/impactful image (imo) the Judo Kid. Fragile posted/confirmed it but does that count?
What do you think happened? Is he just switching things up or do you think his phone died and he's still looking for a charger.

Banksy in Kiev, Ukraine πΊπ¦, by The Real Ironman on Nov 17, 2022 17:18:56 GMT 1, π₯±π€¨ Very unoriginal and badly executed .. Words words words words words words words words words words What were the really original pieces that you painted in Kiev? Keen to see your undoubted talent π So you can all masturbate yourselves into a frenzy over them? Oh no, only if confirmed Banksy.
