Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by timballs on Nov 13, 2006 5:58:35 GMT 1, I'm new to this forum but have been a Obey fan since the mid 90's. This is probably beating a dead mule but here is my story: I have ordered many things, many different times, gone through the same recent problems, etc. But what gets me is I took off for a month to travel to Thailand and when I came back my prints still were not received (three months total). I emailed them (first time since I got back from travel, about ten before I left) and instantly I got an email back saying they have been trying to reach me for the last month through email trying to see if I wanted a more rare print since the one I originally ordered was sold out. Since I didn't respond they did nothing. In Thailand the only communication I had was email and didn't receive one from Obey. So instead of telling me the true story of what happened, they tried to pass the responsibility of the long wait on to me for not responding to emails they never sent me. Just a straight lie instead of an apology. Best part is...still no free print, and when I email them...nothing. Gotta love it. Shep, if you read this I'll personally give you my address so there are no excuses. I live in Seattle, just up from L.A. Pretty sure its not the mailman. Thanks for the vent. Great site, great forum.

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by brut on Nov 14, 2006 16:03:30 GMT 1, Hi. Today i recieved my print from obey. Now i know there has been many, many problems with ordering from obey & i know that shep has stated the problem has been resolved & i am living proof that i has. I placed various orders earlier this year & like many others did not recieve my prints. It also took me ages to get my money back. After reading on the obey site that the person had been removed & the situation had been resolved i thought i would give it another go. Today i took delivery of a Malcolm X print i ordered at the end of october. This print sold out within a day. It has taken less than 3 weeks to arrive from the US. There was also a bonus as it is a Artist Proof! ;D To say i am happy with the service is a understatement. I will be placing orders again in the future. I will post a picture of the print tonight.

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Nov 14, 2006 17:02:48 GMT 1, I've had my two orders safely delivered recently (just - both tubes had had a bashing, but the prints survived...) so I think we can say that it seems like Obey are back on track.... ;D
I ordered Malcolm X's but got refunds instead....
One order was hit with customs charges (first time - so I've been lucky so far)
still not had my freebie from the previous cock ups though

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by timballs on Nov 21, 2006 5:44:40 GMT 1, I guess I'll order another print from then just to see if then send it as an artist proof. Maybe that is how they are rewarding their customers, not with free prints, but more costly ones at no extra charge. Problem is I don't want anything off the site right now.

The free print claim period, aka "tell us how we cocked up and we'll hook you up" didn't end until November 6.
Obey has stated that the prints would begin shipping some time after that. No reports from the US that anyone has received the free print yet(stated to be a very rare Peace Fingers Black, only available as the make-up print, limited to 100, and already in huge demand). Still, everything should be good to go for all you guys.
I can only speak from my experience, but Obey shipping/customer service has been wonderful since the reorganization.....

Maybe that is how they are rewarding their customers, not with free prints, but more costly ones at no extra charge. Problem is I don't want anything off the site right now. I sent over 30 emails, eventually bought a AP peace revolution woman from artrepublic for Β£60 (about 4 times the price from obey site) ordered prints in June, received email 2 days ago saying they'll be in touch to refund my money soon, hardly rewarding for the amount of time I've waited. I wouldn't risk ordering anything from then again

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Nov 21, 2006 14:49:52 GMT 1, a lot of us got serious stung / put off / messed around by Obey ordering...
what I can say is that it seems to be sorted out now.
I've had two orders recently, with no problems at all. On one I even got a very swift part-refund as some of the order had aleady sold out (before they stopped people ordering it).
Only slight problems were... 1) had to pay about Β£20 import tax on one tube (first time I've ever been stung for that! ;D) 2) both tubes were a bit bashed around at one end - prints inside were fine, but they could easily have been mashed up at that end - tubes a bit flimsy - I prefer the new heavy duty tubes that POW use!
Oh, and I've still never had my 'freebie' print for all the hassle caused previously

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Nov 22, 2006 3:44:30 GMT 1, At 1.50 am I spot this in my email (timed at 1.34am). Cool, I think, at last I'll get a Malcom X (I got refunds on the first two colourways - so I must have been close to getting to them, but not close enough).
But, nope, already in the 'sold out' edition. Fucking yanks ;D
Its that time again... For this Tuesday we are releasing couple of new prints that might be of some interest... BUT some important information first! We have been getting A LOT of emails and calls regarding the prints and them selling out so fast. Its seems that some have the suspicion that EBAYers are buying up 30 at a time and leaving everyone empty handed. Let me tell you from the horse's mouth that thats simply not the case. Its just lately art has been flying off the shelf here! But to satisfy all those nonbelievers we are now going to limit all of the 18" x 24", OBEY Screen prints to 3 per household/customers... starting with the one below. If you order more than 3 you will automatically be refunded. Keep in mind that we are making these policies, with more to come in the new year, to help prevent the crazy mark up of re-sellers and to give everyone the opportunity to buy the print. Which that said, this is what we got for you this week:
The first of which is the Lollapolooza 2006 Tour Poster that Shepard designed. These posters are Offset Prints, measuring 18" x 24" with a Digital Signature and a real signature. Two signatures for the price of one. Initially these posters were only available at the concert but we happened to get our hands on a few of them.
Next we have the third color way of the Malcom X image. We thought Malcom was so important he deserved a third... Although this time its a smaller Edition of 150 (Signed and Numbered) so quantities are extremely limited. This one is limited to 3 per customer/household.
Lastly, we have the biggies! The large format prints we have on the site are the most slept on items we've got. The large formats are basically the same price as the smaller prints on EBAY right now but in smaller editions, twice the size, with equally incredible imagery. These new prints are part of the RISE ABOVE Series that debuted at the Merry Karnowsky Opening in Los Angeles. They measure 29" x 42" and are Editions of 50 (Signed and Numbered). If you want to start collecting fine art prints this is a great place to begin! www.obeygiant.com/main.php?page=posters&gallery=large Best,

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by brut on Nov 28, 2006 23:24:36 GMT 1, Just looked on the obey site & have seen 3 new prints. They looked preety good & thought to myself that i would get 1 of each.Only one problem.....They are sold out already!! I have not as yet recieved a email from obey saying that they are up for sale. Buying prints used to be fairly straight forward but it seems now that you have to be camped next to your pc all day & constantley hitting the refresh key. I have preety much given up on owning any of the new banksy prints that are slowly being released & have very little chance with getting a eelus print if the current trend is anything to go buy. Below the pic of the new prints for sale on the obey site it states a maximum of 3 prints each.I suppose this is to ward of the ebay vultures.Nothing will stop these wa***ers from making a quick buck.It is hard to believe that it was only a year ago when there were at least 8 banksy prints on pow that had been on there for 12 months or more before being sold out. HUMBUG to all you ebay vultures.

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Nov 29, 2006 1:45:12 GMT 1, yep, Obey has also gone a bit mad, but the consolation is that the prices on ebay don't go up much.
like you I've missed out on several recently. the only one I got were the one (chinese soldiers 2) inexplicably released at about 3am LA time, and the yanks were in bed :-)
read other posts in this thread. Prints are now only released on Tuesdays, so no need to keep looking every hours of the week. So far, something has been released every week, which I think is bad. Seems like they think they have to release any old dross

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Dec 30, 2006 16:00:06 GMT 1, yes, new.
2 of the 3 on sale aren't actually sold out though!! and are rather overpriced IMHO...
Lesser Gods & Militerry are both still available on www.obeygiant.com, for about Β£30 all in ($25, plus about $26 postage)
They are Lithographs with a Limited Edition of 750, so haven't sold out yet.
By the by, Obey lithographs are superb quality & nice thick paper (just coz they are lithos it doesn't mean they are cheap and flimsy Athena style )
Muslim Woman though is sold out and is decently priced I'd say (Β£95).

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Jan 3, 2007 1:43:21 GMT 1, I got home from work at 10.30pm, suddenly remembered 'it's tuesday'.... looked on site... saw the arab woman (one I actually like and didn't manage to get the other version of) on the front page... got to the prints section and yes, fucking sold out...
ordering on Obey is now easy & the customer service is good... but now it's pretty impossible to buy anything. how did this happen so fast? all of 2006, until say November, you could browse and buy at your leisure... then in novemebr things sold out in a few days... then in dec in a few hours.... now in a few minutes... WTF?
I did get my freebie 'peace fingers' today. hate to sound churlish but 1) why reward us long suffering people with such a poor idea/image, and 2) why 'AP' - everyone is getting AP's aren't they? why? why not make it special numbered edition, of exactly the number of customers who were strung out and stressed up by Obey's previous customer service debacle.

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by pastiepie on Jan 4, 2007 2:11:33 GMT 1, I never really liked shepard fairey's work, it looks just too computer vectory for my liking. There is this interesting site you though we wouldn't notice www.youthoughtwewouldntnotice.com/blog3/ which is currently featuring some of his work. Also this person www.brghtnghts.com/blog/?page_id=46 who seems to have a bit of a vendetta.
Personally I don't have a problem with using other people's work, I just don't like his stuff and can't see how he is so popular when there are so many better artists out there. He's really just cashing in now with multiple colour versions of the sold-out prints and to me they pretty much all look the same.

Hi Ricosg11 welcome to the forum.
Obey/Shepard Fairey primarily does wheatpasting and posterizing not stencils. the pieces at 11 spring are not stencils, but actually large posters he has collaged together.

Should he have taken a pole to see which piece he should give away for free? I really like Peace Fingers as do alot of folks. This image (in a special color) was actually also what he gave away to 100 or so friends and family at Christmas, so he must like it too.

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Jan 8, 2007 3:15:20 GMT 1, good luck to them (and think of the liles ;D )
but to me (as a customer) after over 50 emails, some phone calls to LA, and 4 months of hassle, I got peace fingers, which is so so poor.
I presumed it would be a print done especially for the people treated so shoddily. or at least a different version of an existing print if shep was so busy churning out his next Tuesday print.

Think yourself lucky, I sent about the same amount of emails, and eventually after 6 months I got my money refunded, with no free print, no explanation, I'm just grateful I got my cash back. Obviously would never order from them again, however duckwaddles provide a prompt & reliable service Should he have taken a pole to see which piece he should give away for free?
