Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by Daniel Silk on Aug 23, 2006 12:54:57 GMT 1, I want to do something about obey, They're commiting fraud and getting away with it. I'm so frustrated as I've sent them dozens of emails, phoned them loads of times but they just ignore all correspondence. If I lived In the US I 'd track down these f**kers and slap em. I'm curious to find out who else has been ripped off and had money stolen. If these f**kers ever do a show in the UK I'm gonna just go and nick their work, they owe me!
Yeah, I agree completely I have just posted a letter to them telling them how I made my order back in APRIL I will let you know if I get any joy

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Aug 29, 2006 23:22:24 GMT 1, mine have been 4 months now. 50 emails...... only one reply, saying they would sort it out, and they haven't
their service is truly awful. there really is no excuse. If I ran my business like this I would be bankrupt by now.
every other US print seller has been 100% brilliant with me - goods within 2 weeks. they have been 100% awful. and I have paid $41 in post so there is not excuse on that front.
I relectantly phoned them (i ahte phones, espec when I pay for them, and I'm telling someone to do their f'ing job properly!)
got april's A/M, after being on hold for what seemed like ages (probably wasn't, but I could hear the noise of money tinkling down the drain.... )
sent follow up emails....
finally got an email reply....
asking the same question they asked 2 months ago (shall we fed-ex it). the same question I answered 2 months ago. (the answer was 'yes, I have never wanted a refund, I just want my prints)
f me, does it take a genius to work out that if you have already kept a customer waiting 2 months and not replied to their emails, that finally when you do reply to his email, it's pretty f'ing sensible not to keep him waiting another 2 months...
I seriously don't care about the time. I care about the COMPLETE lack of contact and replies. I don't mind waiting for an ashmatic (sp?) snail to deliver it, as long as I know the snail has it on his little back and will be sliming his way over to me as soon as possible.
and then for 4 months I have wondered whether I should pay over the odds for them on ebay (if I wait even longer I assume the prices will rise yet more), or if I will ever get the ones I ordered and paid for before they sold out.
f it. I have ordered art stuff from about 30 different sellers, at home and abroad, business and individual, I have never had a problem like this. pathetic.
i don't think I'll be able to look at another Obey print for 6 months
such a shame - they seem to try to do stuff for charity etc, but what's the point if u can't even do basic stuff right? why charge only $30 for a print if you can't get the prints out to people? maybe they need to charge more?

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Aug 29, 2006 23:28:35 GMT 1, sorry people, I have to retract my praise of ducky wadles...
the shop may still be fine (everyone says their service is excellent and I will happilyagree with that)
but the owner has launched into a highly personalised and childish attack on me on the other side. Not sure why he can't be an adult about my comment that as long as they aren't sold out at Obey they are the same price ($30) [which is very good], but then only when they sell out at Obey that they seem to jack the prices up ludicrously....

It's only when they sell out at Obey that they seem to jack the prices up ludicrously.... they must be the US equivalent of Art Republic ;D ;D Well I think we're all aware that Obey are a rip off and just nick your cash. I'm going to go to Newcastle next month (Spank the Monkey) where I notice Shep is exhibiting. I intend to give him a piece of my mind and demand some prints/money back! Perhaps I should collate all your emails, work out which prints you're all owed, get the prints and send them to you. I even sent these guys an email to offer UK distribution/wholesale and increase their sales, but of course had frig all response. Email: mark@brightonelectric.co.uk with print description and I'll see what I can do......

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by Curley on Aug 30, 2006 15:01:49 GMT 1, I suggest that anyone waiting for Obey goods opens a dispute with paypal or you could possibly lose your money, you have 45 days from the time you make your order and my time is nearly out.. Just opened mine and I'll let you know how i get on.
In the meantime next Obey i see on a wall is coming straight down. Childish maybe but it will make me feel better.

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Aug 30, 2006 20:08:33 GMT 1, yep, sorry, but I also feel like that.
I'm like a passive agressive over Obey. Love 'em and hate 'em.
I so respect what he does - I love the 'revolutionary' images (that is one reason why I SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO want my Molotov man - that is just so beautiful and reminds me of something that might have been done in the Spanish Civil War or in the Basque conflicts).
They do also try to do there bit for charity etc, and $30 for a print is a steal. that is a real attempt to keep prices available to many people.
BUT the way they treat people is so weird and so un-American. It is demeaning to us to make us phone them, email them (I have sent over 50 emails), open paypal disputes, and wonder if we will ever get a print...
Business is a pretty simple concept. you have a product, someone wants it, someone buys it, you send it to them....
if you can't do that, then retire.
I've worked / volunteered with charities, co-operatives, & credit unions most of my life and help them to improve themselves. Rather like charities who feel they can get away with poor service because they are 'doing good', I feel like Obey are making it seem like they are allowed to offer terrible customer service because they are artists, rebels and keep their prices low.....

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by mido on Aug 31, 2006 11:45:05 GMT 1, on a lighter note I got my copy of 'Supply & Demand' today via Amazon (first copy went missing in the post)
UTTERLY AMAZING. great stories, images, explanations etc
And most of the B&W photos are brilliant and really well produced. I think photos of the Obey stuff (mainly the Obey Giant face) work well, especially from a distance (because you don't need to see the wheat paste up close), so their context in their environment can be show. It's a real lesson for me - it doesn't really work like that for most graffiti / stencils
buy buy buy......
Unfortunately neither Amazon or Play are offering much of a discount at the moment (still close to the £35 RRP) but at least P&P is free. It is very heavy so I imagine ordering from abroad would be VERY expensive.
When I ordered mine Amazon were selling for £23 ;D
SHEP! you are so talented and do so many good things but your reputation is being sullied by your attempts to sell posters. Please sort it out so we can concentrate on your art and messages

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by Curley on Sept 6, 2006 10:22:29 GMT 1, Hi everyone.
Just to report back that my paypal dispute with Obey was dealt with in less than a week with a full refund. ;D This means that after at least 40 days my posters had not even been shipped to me. I just cant believe that they run a business the way they do.
I love Shep's work but this has left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Anyone else out there waiting on posters and close to the 45 day limit i suggest you get a dispute lodged and get your money back.
Now i'm off to duckwadles with a fist full of greenbacks or should i wait until the new banksy prints appear.
toodle pip

I've had an order pending since the 16th of August with prints that are now sold out with Obey, so I fully expect to have to file a complaint with Paypal on that one. If you buy anything Obey do yourself a favor and buy it from Ducky Waddles, this way you're assured of receiving the items, before they sell out.

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by Baurmann Gallery on Sept 26, 2006 3:14:13 GMT 1, I posted this on the Banksy ebay forums too and reposted it on a few others, but I was on here reading the issues experienced here too and wanted to pass it along too. Like I say below though, email me if you have any feedback you want passed along. I am going to make sure the posts below get back to them to0, like alot of the others out there I have sent them.
Post: All the issues with Obey's shipping are being taken care of in a big way. I do not work for Obey but Shep and Amanda are friends of mine, hence me wanting to pass along this info.
Unfortunately, there is no other way to frame this that mistakes occurred and they are on it. I can even tell you Amanda [Shep’s wife], who is never in the office due to her new baby, is back helping with a lot of this personally.
Since I am not an employee of Obey [they could have liability issues if they discussed things about former employees], I will try to be more straightforward.
Basically, the reason your emails were not getting responded too or your prints shipped was somebody who was supposed to be doing it was not. That person is no longer working at Obey and it’s due to the shipping/communication issues experienced by so many customers.
New people are running the shipping as of very recently [2 new people were hired on specifically for this], new systems are in place [with more to follow], better materials are being used [thicker tubes for example], and they know that recent mistakes must be fixed.
I can say with 100% certainty things are being done to 1: resolve all of the outstanding complaints/orders 2: communicate with the consumers 3. Build a better system 4 Make sure this does not happen again
Also, let me know if there is any feedback I can pass along to them to help fix this situation further, as I can make sure it gets direct to them… [my email is baurmanngallery@aol.com]
I am extremely confident, from what I have seen and know first hand, that this mess will be resolved shortly.
Talk is cheap though, so hopefully those will still order from Obey will see the changes and slowly people’s confidence will be built back up.

Shepard Fairey + The Most Fan Friendly Artist?, by Baurmann Gallery on Oct 7, 2006 22:41:16 GMT 1, This is posted on thier main page. Anyone who had issues should email them and you will recieve a free print. Like I said before, they feel horrible about this, and truly want to do whatever it takes to make it up to thier fans...
ATTENTION ORDER PROBLEMS "OKAY... let's get this topic out in the open. As some of you may already know, we have had some recent problems with the MAIL ORDER from Obey Giant. I feel terrible! I feel so lucky that I can live making art. I have always emphasized that it is paramount to treat supporters well. I think anyone who knows me can vouch for my appreciation and overall attempts to treat others the way I'd like to be treated. I'm dismayed that anyone in my organization would not hold the same standards. Unfortunately, someone I trusted let me down BIG TIME. I had no idea until recently that many orders were a month or two behind because our complaint email address went directly and only to the person causing the complaints! Just how dire the situation had become was kept a secret from me until I started getting complaints to my direct email address and through Paypal itself. First of all, we have released the bad egg employee and hired replacements who are working overtime to rectify all the problems. Secondly, I'd like to give a gift poster to anyone who received particularly bad service. We are trying to figure out a method to track down people who deserve a "make up" gift. Some people will lie to get something free, but we do want to compensate any deserving victim of the "Order reign of terror".
Please email us with evidence of order problems and we'll make sure to hook you up. Below are instructions on what to do. Once again, I can't express how much I appreciate the support you've given my art and I'm doing everything I can to correct any problems and injustices. Thanks for listening."
