Again with the conjecture, where’s your proof? Given there were 2000 of those posters it’s entirely possible a single person has dozens. I have loads of posters that are 100% authentic and have in multiples, some I’ve had dozens of the same poster/print. It’s not unusual for people to buy up a lot of a single poster and then drip feed them through auctions over months and years.

I’m sorry but if you are buying Banksy posters that we all know:

- Have been faked and sold on for years
- Are unbelievably easy to reprint
- Have no real provenance unless you were the original purchaser or personally know the direct purchased.
- Were not and will never be issued COA’s
- Most people wouldn’t know a real one if it was in front of them

From an auction house, member on UAA, EBay, or wherever, YOU ARE TAKING THE RISK OF BUYING A FAKE! Sure it’s sucks to get burned but come on, it’s EPHEMERA! You roll the dice knowing all of the above and hope for the best.

At least when it came into question TW did right by everyone. Not like they were issuing COA’s. I believe Daniel to be an honest guy.

While it sucks and I feel bad for those that lost their gamble I would say that buying easily reprinted posters from someone you don’t know on the internet is not toward the top of the list on best ways to ensure you are buying authentic artwork.

the fake PB posters sold were noticeable different, there was many pictures n examples of real vs fake right on this forum.... now i think ur just trolling me if u won’t admit they were fake, AND the same ppl selling them we’re doing so 4 several years.... can u admit that at least?

Of course they were fake, and I’m not trolling you, should they have known better? in hindsight yes (but there are probably more fakes of this poster than real ones). I’m simply saying that I’m given them the benefit of the doubt as there is at least in my view a plausible explanation if you allow for complacency and a lack of diligence. Basically applying Hanlon’s razor "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity".

And in how many of these cases is a director of the auction house the source of fakes ?

And in how many of these cases were there tens or even hundreds of fakes from said director sold through dozens of channels over several years ?

And in how many of these cases were underbidders of these fakes contacted with a second chance to buy the item when they were actually being sold another copy of the fake ?

Add all of this up and it looks a lot more like malice than stupidity.

Or if it is stupidity, it is of the most extraordinary level

I actually feel sorry for whomever buys and finds out it’s not real
And for any seller selling a genuine article they won’t get the full price for because TW has messed up their reputation
For a lot of people this is a life changing amount of money
No one “deserves” it

I think Met has done a good job for the Connor brothers exploring how they steal old famous quotes and imagery and just re work everything.
