TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by kuni on Jun 21, 2019 20:38:28 GMT 1, Could not agree more. The idea that I'm going to have to spend a bunch of time sorting out the logistics of getting the piece to the states is potentially enough to make me think twice about bidding. I checked out the fine print on Tate's site and it's pretty vague. Basically, get your piece out of here within 14 days or we charge you storage. The rest is on you. Fair enough, and if I could collect the piece in person that wouldn't be a problem, but finding the time to arrange freight can be a challenge for anyone working a full time job. Maybe I'm blowing this out of proportion and making it a bigger deal than it is (totally possible) but my enthusiasm around bidding is somewhat tempered by the shipping situation. Going to contact mailboxes though and see if that's an easy solution for international shipping. I will be happy to help co ordinate quotes from our preferred shippers flight logistics and JGM shipping. We had previously recommended Cadogan Tate but while their art handling and storage are second to none they are expensive for shipping and packing (we have asked them to address this). To clarify our view on shipping, we believe our customers should be free to use whoever they wish. We do not mark up the quotes from our recommended partners you will always be paying the actual cost of packing and shipping. I think this sets us apart from much of our competitors who see it as another revenue stream and an opportunity to profit further after a sale. We will be happy to help with dimensions and quotes, just get in touch with Harry or myself. Harry@tateward.com danny@tateward.com Thanks for the note. I'll email you shortly to discuss.

TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by jp on Jun 21, 2019 20:47:18 GMT 1, I recently purchased an item from Artnet and they partner with Your Special Delivery Service for shipping (https://www.ysds.com/). YSDS charges for pickup, packing, shipping (they used fedex 2 day) and offer insurance (charged at 1% of the total value of the artwork). They did a great job with packing and communication, and overall it was a good experience.

TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by kuni on Jul 2, 2019 13:49:28 GMT 1, Some really nice pieces here, but the few that I'm interested in are all canvases which are going to be prohibitively expensive to ship to the US. Oh well, good luck to those of you that go for something.

You can just sign into artsy and watch it live under the auction section - they are on Lot 38 right now.

TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by Art Fan 2011 on Jul 2, 2019 19:31:02 GMT 1, Loads being passed on again, they need to be much more selective going forward if they want to attract generally better lot`s. Plenty of things being flipped from recent releases and it just ends up being a real mismash if things. Once seller`s have taken the fee`s off aswell many of the things are going on the cheap side!
Peter Blake stuff went down like a lead balloon !

TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by Riotcops on Jul 2, 2019 20:01:56 GMT 1, This is all around disappointing. Starting way below the low estimates and never working their way up to the minimum. Also, feel they are quick to pass on some of them - like they expect to pass and are generally surprised when there's a bid. Would love to see the total sell through rate.

TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by Art Fan 2011 on Jul 2, 2019 20:04:52 GMT 1, If they wish to keep this going then the lot criteria needs to be stricte, and they need more realistic reserves. All well n good letting sellers dictate prices, but it just ends up with lots going unsold.

TateWard β’ Art Auctions π¬π§, by irl1 on Jul 2, 2019 20:45:30 GMT 1, Give Danny and the team a chance. New auction houses have to find their feet.
I watched auction houses start and grow over many years, its all about getting the name out. Yes they will make a bloomer or two but we all do.
Setting up an auction house is not an easy business and its a very expensive start up.
Come on i'm sure there are a few of you that will want to wish them well for the future
Good luck Danny i'm sure you will be on to answer a few posts
