Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by Terry Fuckwitt on Aug 1, 2020 10:00:31 GMT 1, Yeah, the spiral in the elephant head is the biggest giveaway. A lot of effort gone in to this one though, but to steal someones £21k I suppose it's worth it.

Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by soupy on Oct 28, 2020 20:03:42 GMT 1, it sounds like PC was referring to the display piece never getting a COA as it was a prop and never intended for sale. it didn't sound like they were drawing any conclusion regarding whether yours was a fake or not.... the picture of the display piece shows that the swirl is different, the dents on the cardboard are different, and the spacing between the elephants is different which would mean yours is fake. maybe i am misinterpreting.

Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by lv90210 on Oct 28, 2020 20:07:27 GMT 1, Hi guys, Little follow up on this one. I was quite taken by the story of this piece on e-bay and actually engaged in a conversation with the seller. Of course this wasn't the same as in the window display in Aoyama but could it be that there had been more than one at the exhibition in 2002? As a fellow member put it, quite some work was put into this fake otherwise. The seller was engaging and his story seemed genuine, although with a lot of holes in the provenance trail. We went back and forth on whatsapp. So we negotiated, I actually loved the piece and thought this might be a good addition to my collection. To frame and hang. There was also a letter trail in Japanese from the original acquirer and I since I travel to Japan quite often I might be able to track him and prove the provenance, as the seller was mentioning PCO would not authenticate as the provenance trail could not be clearly established since the piece was gifted. I ended up buying the piece, not AT ALL at the price at which it was offered and received it. A few weeks later, the seller sent me an email - he had asked for another piece to be authenticated at PCO and this ended up being a fake. But PCO added an interesting second part to their email: " In regards to the piece on display at / from Aoyama exhibition, that was refused due to it not being a commercial work of art. Ir was a window display piece / prop which was not intended for sale" This was sent to the seller, but since I had the piece and it was now mine I thought I would actually send a message to PCO myself. Well I just got the reply today: Hi Vincent,
We have told Rob and the various middle men this will never get authentication.
It was a prop and was not intended for commercial sale.
The artist has confirmed this will never be authenticated.
Thanks,
Customer Services Well you know what, I love the artist for what he is and not for what he is worth. It's probably the last (only) original i will ever be able to afford. This will be framed and hung in my living room, and will be my pride, and never to be sold. Just i thought I'd give you guys an update to the end of this little mistery: it WASNT the window display BUT there was more than one. And its real. and its mine Cheers my friends and have a great evening The proud owner
Good enough for me, I’ve seen multiple email chains like this from PC.
What you have is a nice part of a Banksy installation with a little email from PC saying it’s the real deal.
Any pics ? ( not sure if you have already shown)

Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by Deleted on Oct 28, 2020 20:40:33 GMT 1, Correct, must have been more than one in display apart from the window one. Clearly it isn't the same one.
I have sent PCO the pictures I sent you, and I believe they would have told me mine was a fake if this was the case.
Not everything in a collection has to be worth $$$$, and this wont be worth much BUT is some cool Banksy history from an installation of a 2002 exhibition. And i actually like the piece.

I think I am going to end it there, because (1) I dont want to bother them further (2) its not for sale but for display (3) Its pretty clear to me i would ask for this clarification 1000% as it makes a big difference whether they won't authenticate because it wasn't intended for sale or its a fake. i would send the pic of the display for reference, note the differences, and ask if there were more than one on display.
4) you’re afraid of the answer you may get*

Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by gimmeabreak on Oct 28, 2020 21:26:37 GMT 1, When Pest Control says they will not authenticate something because it was not made for commercial purposes, they are not saying "this is real but we will not provide COA." They are saying they won't even look at it, because it is a poor use of their time. The reply is not an admission of authenticity.

Teh fact this is about the art and not the value speaks volumes. I've dealt with PC enough to believe that they straight out call a fake, so suspect that maybe there was a couple of different stencils used.... it's really not as unthinkable as some seem to believe.
Enjoy it, and make sure you post pictures when it is framed.... and update us on your Japanese investigations.

Have to say wasn't asking for an avalanche of sh*t on this one, but was just sharing a story i thought cool for art lovers. Turns out its always easier to be know-it-all when in reality NOONE (incl myself of course) has a definite answer.

Maybe you can compare it to a light drizzle of p*ss, that would be fair if you ask me.

No need for attacks.
Pest Control did not look at your pictures to authenticate your piece. They do not take the time to verify authenticity for non-commercial pieces. Their first step inquiry is "is this something we authenticate?" and the answer for your piece was no. They did not continue on and compare your pictures to their archives and examine the details for authenticity. There was no reason for them to do so.

And this was confirmed by PCO itself: "All submitted originals are put in front of the artist". Their words. Not mine, I can send you the screenshot. And PCO has a history of saying when its fake in very few words. I am not saying this is an admission of authenticity though. But its easy to say: this is fake Lets agree to disagree. Post the screenshot. They likely were not referencing your work as a "submitted original" in that context. There is no reason for them to be showing the artist works that will never qualify for COA.

Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by Nordicstar on Oct 28, 2020 22:43:30 GMT 1, And actually you are 100% wrong. I'm starting to feel sorry for Banksy right now. Every morning he must wake to shit loads of emails asking him to confirm the authenticity of 'free art from dismaland'. I don't want his job anymore, he can keep it😉
I imagine Banksy sit in front of their computer in high-heels hairy legs, hoodie, nice cup of tea, and yeah I’ll take their job, mostly for the heels.
