Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by Terry Fuckwitt on Oct 28, 2020 22:46:34 GMT 1, You spent money on this and asked PC and got an answer. But if you take the rose tinted glasses off and see it from an outsiders POV then you might think different. Do you think the one in the gallery window is different to the one you own? If your answer is No, then take another look. If your answer is Yes, then ask yourself, why would Banksy have: a. Cut two different stencils for the same image. b. Spray the image on a nearly identical piece of folded cardboard with the elephants in nearly identical positions.

It may be the second best thing to a PCO COA. Ultimately you begun this it for the fun of the experience, so make this an opportunity.

What Banksy in 2002?.. nah He would have ripped up a cardboard box from the store cupboard and sprayed up a stencil in minutes. If you compare the two, the fake is also a cleaner image than the finished piece, so that doesn't make sense.

Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by avec art on Oct 28, 2020 23:04:15 GMT 1, All right guys am off. I do regret I posted all this here, because although I dont really have an answer from you fine gentlemen experts, I feel like an idiot for wanting to share a story with you guys. Good night For what it’s worth, I enjoyed your story. I hope you enjoy it for what it is - it’s a lovely thing to own. but it's not a lovely thing to own if it is the counterfeit evidence of an unscrupulous actor attempting and succeeding in defrauding somebody out of their hard earned money. If it is a preparatory piece then certainly it would be lovely, and I expect there will be clues one way or another if the investigative analysis is rigorous enough.

The Card from 18 years ago would now be quite "Aged" due to Acid in the shitty cardboard. Also the Piece you have has nice fresh cut edges which seem to be quite freshly cut...not cut 18 years ago.
add this to the list of other thing wrong with it and you have a fake.
just my 2 cents

Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by Terry Fuckwitt on Oct 28, 2020 23:46:51 GMT 1, Why would PCO not write clearly: Both pieces submitted were not created by Banksy? Would have been easy enough. Here it is, but you are honestly being a bit of a d***
It is a blanket response from pc, as they will not authenticate it either way. The amount of emails they must be receiving nowadays about all sorts of crap. Why would they sit and compare this to the original(like us bunch of geeks) when they have better things to do (unlike us bunch of geeks). Can I ask, how much did you pay for it?

Sorry but yours wasn’t on display there so isn’t being discussed in this note. I hope you can prove it was on display there and you now own a Banksy made piece of work.

For whatever reason clicking the ebay.ie link will automatically go to ebay.co.uk site. Edit out the co.uk and add in .ie and you see the page. It looks like this: Cropped for myopics version: The other linked page is this:

Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by Not 4 The Thril on Oct 29, 2020 4:57:52 GMT 1, I know I'm late to the party but here is my 2 cents-
We all get duped every once in a while and somethings seem like great deals. Maybe you sent both those photos to PC and they did indeed say yes the top picture can't be authenticated because it was a display. And the bottom image is not by Banksy.
I believe it is a great copy and cool piece of artwork but I don't believe that it is the piece in the above image.

Yep except the prep is not on a clean brand new piece of cardboard with a slightly different stencil. Not a chance these two pieces are related or even from the same period...
@vincenttrapenard you are a seasoned collector, you know full well that this doesn’t add up

Kids believe he’s real.
I recently submitted a piece for a Coa knowing I probably wouldn’t get it as it was a promo and a got a response saying they don’t authenticate items of this nature, only commercial works of art.
It was a far briefer and less ambiguous response to some I’ve seen from the past which seem to offer hope to the owner and act as a form of authentication. My provenance trail is watertight though and I’m really happy to own it.
It seems to me very unlikely to me that there would be two different HW cardboard stencils from this show. On different cardboard, different spacing of the elephants etc. But if you’re happy with the provenance that’s all that matters really.

You ask why won’t PCO write clearly? I may have misunderstood what you submitted, but to me it’s clear that they say the display piece (older dented, swirl on head cardboard) was by Banksy but not for authentication and you’re other piece (the item you purchased) is not by Banksy. That to me seems pretty clear?!

*edited* Ah, You replied with a bit more information whilst I was typing, it appears it may be you were referring to something else. In that case, Disregard my previous. It’s a Nice piece, I just hope you’re happy with it either way and can justify the financial risk of it being a fake. The only thing that bothers me is that if it is fake, someone has been dishonest and made money by defrauding and misrepresentation which is obviously ethically and legally wrong. Happy Thursday. 🙌🏻

Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by sfnyc on Oct 29, 2020 11:27:16 GMT 1, The fact that this ebay vendor only sells fakes, as shown by other members here before (plus the fact vendor got another piece denied in that posted email as also being a fake) is enough information for any experienced Banksy collector to know the answer here.
Expensive learning experience but great thread to educate others, especially about misreading confusing PC emails to assume authenticity.

Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by nex on Oct 29, 2020 12:03:14 GMT 1, Hey there, You guys are missing quite a lot of information on the provenance trail but thats fine I cant divulge everything neither. I am NOT saying this is a genuine piece, as many say I should know better. Nex: to your question 1. August 2020 I see this piece on EBay (which is of course a mistake to start with but whatever). 2. September we start having discussions on Whatsapp directly on provenance and history of the piece, and of course on price. At that time I understand the stencils are different, that its unlikely that B might have done two, thats the cardboards are also different but at the end of the day (1) my perception is my reality and (2) provenance and proofs of provenance are intriguing. Again, I realize at the time this is at best a prop piece, hence no PCO, hence no admission of authenticity. At the time one of the provenance docs is a letter from PCO saying the provenance trail cant be proven. 3. I decide to buy it. (again, my choice) 4. The former owner, 5 years after his email to PCO sent a new email - in October - to PCO for another piece (thats the one referred to in the email). Turned out to be fake. Out of the blue, PCO makes a comment of the Aoyama piece - they probably keep track of every person asking to authenticate any piece. The former owner forwards me this message. 5. Since i am the new owner, I send a request to PCO with only the pictures I shared with you in my first post - and you have seen the reply I got. Hi Vincent, We have told ≈≈≈ and the various middle men this will never get authentication. It was a prop and was not intended for commercial sale. The artist has confirmed this will never be authenticated. Thanks,
Oh, in the last 5 minutes, I just got a reply from PCO to from my message last night - which is very nice of them considering they must be very busy - and lets put it this way, you may think you know, but if you don't, you don't. And they do. And they actually take the time to look at every piece submitted, and hold a file for each of them. Lets close this thread enough time wasted for everyone - thanks LV for the support. As i mentioned this is for my eyes only anyway, and am happy with it. Can you show us the pieces you sent pics of to them? Their message back appears to be discussing two different pieces? Ta
Thanks this is a fascinating response

Ta Thanks this is a fascinating response Hi Vincent, We have told ≈≈≈ and the various middle men this will never get authentication. It was a prop and was not intended for commercial sale. The artist has confirmed this will never be authenticated. Thanks,

Banksy Heavy Weaponry, Real or Fake?, by irl1 on Oct 29, 2020 12:15:15 GMT 1, Correct, must have been more than one in display apart from the window one. Clearly it isn't the same one. I have sent PCO the pictures I sent you, and I believe they would have told me mine was a fake if this was the case. Not everything in a collection has to be worth $$$$, and this wont be worth much BUT is some cool Banksy history from an installation of a 2002 exhibition. And i actually like the piece. Hello, I seen another one of these in an auction about a year ago. I tried all last night to find it, but it could have been taken out after it was sold.
To be honest if I were you, I would take it back from your framer and put a claim in for a refund.
Maybe Daniel it's best not to post these ebay links with fake art, all it's doing is giving the scammers free advertising
