Art Wanted, by curiousgeorge on Oct 26, 2013 18:44:34 GMT 1, As far as my memory goes these are the only copies/fakes/whatever made available being the same sizes.(apart from BD prints) Early days they were shouting about them using the same paper and inks.
So I think these are unique(all about timing) in the world of fake banksy tat.I don't delve too much into that world but my understanding is prior to WCP you could get crappy canvases on ebay/markets but NO direct copies of prints being the exact same size and advertised as same paper and inks(brands)
With that tat market anyone with half a brain can decipher they are not real, these on the other hand are very different.Get the impression this will end up in back and forth (and more bumps for WCP) so will agree to disagree.Fact of the matter is these very prints have been sold on framed and caught a few people.
While I don't buy framed(anymore) without opening it, I can totally understand people who do.It's human nature to trust people!

A quick question. Do the WCP ones come with an embossed stamp?

Art Wanted, by Deleted on Oct 26, 2013 18:56:09 GMT 1, Oh come on there has been lots and lots of evidence of Banksys being sold that are indistinguishable from the real thing in the past. There have been cases of people using fake Banksy stamps and putting on a fake signature in the past.
I would suggest that anyone who is parting with the amount of money Banksy prints are going for should not trust just anybody with their money. It is just common sense that you would not buy something that amount of money without beyng able to check it over completely. You wouldn't buy a second hand car without test driving it first and this is no different.
Don't misunderstand me I have a lot of sympathy for anyone who has ever been caught out with a fake Banksy but they do need to use their own judgement and common sense sometimes.

Art Wanted, by Manty on Oct 26, 2013 18:57:58 GMT 1, to me this is the same as the fake watch market, put a fake Rolex in a real box, get some papers or a good blag story, advertise it, and you can make a living selling them at around ยฃ1500 profit per watch.
people will only find out when they come to re sell, or get authenticated
And they are easy to sell, just play on another human nature trait, namely greed
also is this thread copying the matrix where the cats walks by twice?

Art Wanted, by curiousgeorge on Oct 26, 2013 19:10:08 GMT 1, The conmen operating via the forum and ebay used VERY different methods if that is you mean about evidence? The previous cases you mentioned are blips in my honest opinion. These WCP are massive editions in comparison to blips and as already mentioned it's not even a matter of time.
What seperates the WCP prints is the the hard work is already done.If I were so inclined I could cream off 100k selling these framed from a rented apartment and cool back story/divorce story.Priced correctly plenty of members would be all over them for starters.
Stamps on the reverse wouldn't be impossible to remove either
People buy houses without a comprehensive survey! They get cheap ass ones to save money and then pay big down the line!!!

I know this is why I thought that your example of a Rolex was very strange And not at all relevant to this thread. I've never seen many framed Rolex watches in my life.
Probably best you do bow out now as that whole you're digging yourself is getting deeper.
Ta ta.
PS - You do know that we weren't originally talking about a framed print don't you? These are all sold unframed.

I still think it is wrong to promote fake prints on here. People can support real artist for the same money.

But it seems a bit unfair to say these shouldnt be sold as someone might try and alter it and con someone.
I could buy a genuine unsigned and unnumbered Banksy and then sign and number it myself to sell it on. If there're people that would fall for the WCP print then surely they'd for this too.
It's really no different.

Art Wanted, by Deleted on Oct 26, 2013 20:26:22 GMT 1, Right. A Banksy print is a Banksy print, 100% genuine, comes with COA etc and can be checked. WCP print is a copy of a Banksy, might come with coa etc but its still a copy. Thing is its ok if someone loves a particular Banksy but cannot afford it to have one i suppose, the problem is when rogues get involved (and they do!) and pass the copies on as real to unsuspecting punters down the line, not everyone out there is a clued up on these matters as people on here are, this is a good place for knowledge / current prices and violence. So, i reckon WCP prints should have some obvious mark on them or be of a different size or something like that, thats my opinion anyhow.
Love you Ambo.
Ignore the above, i know nothing.
ps. How would you feel Ambo if some bloke started churning out Dolk copies? and they got into the market as real?, same difference innit.

That's a fair point Wizzy.
If someone started doing Dolk copies that had no marking at all then that wouldn't be fair. If they were marked up like the WCP Banksy prints are I would have no problem with that. For me I would say that at least WCP is trying to be honest and say they're copies and mark them up as such. I don't think he can be held responsible for what other people might do with the copies they buy from him.
I would never buy a framed Dolk and would ask for the original invoice too so I would be confident of buying a genuine Dolk.
I've looked into buying a Salvador Dali print recently as I reckon it would be pretty cool to have a Dali on the wall. If you think there's fake Banksys out there then you want to see the amount of fake Dalis on the secondary market - it's flooded with them! For the reason I wouldn't even take the chance of buying a Dali from anyone other than a reputable dealer and don't care if the eBay seller is a 100% positive seller or not. I guess the point of this is that people need to use their own common sense and use caution.
Love you too Wizzy : )

Art Wanted, by randomname on Oct 28, 2013 6:20:49 GMT 1, I'm sure Banksy himself is not getting too upset about it so don't worry - life's too short : ) What makes you so sure? Before his site was dedicated to Better Out Than In, his "store" has a handful of images free for people to download for their own personal use. His one condition was that you not print them out and sell them for profit. So I think it's safe to say he does have a problem with people selling copies.

Well if he used to be a bootlegger then he can't really complain. It would be breathtaking double standards if he was getting upset.
Seriously though I can't see brand Banksy plc getting too upset about someone selling a few ยฃ65 fakes !

Talking of nonsensical, what is a 'stream of conscious'??

Wow you really know when this idiot starts using the red writing again in his replies that you're in trouble!! Are you a teacher wannabe or something ? Maybe you should just keep out of this unless you have something constructive to add. It speaks volumes that you've actually had nothing to say about the WCP prints at all and that this is your first post on this thread.
