I dont think you even buy gold anymore its just another market to invest in. Thats why I like art so much at least its tangible. I open my front door and look at all this awesome stuff hanging on my walls.

Art Wanted, by mmmike on Jul 23, 2011 4:34:50 GMT 1, I respect your opinion mike, just don't agree with it. Ps what would you invest in at the moment then.
That depends on your individual situation. In general diversification is important. There are opportunities in real estate in many areas of the world but you need to know the local markets very well to invest intelligently. Agricultural land is a very compelling investment if you have the money and expertise (I don't have either).
For the rest of us the kiss principle is a good one. Diversify with low cost passive investments.

Art Wanted, by tobaum on Jul 28, 2011 8:38:58 GMT 1, I would love to have one of those laugh now. I really like the image and there is no way I pay the current market price. I never managed to score a Banksy print on lottery so I don't have any Banksy... I hate you flippers! If someone bought one of this repro and has a second though, pm please

Art Wanted, by stickitup on Jul 28, 2011 11:37:28 GMT 1, just to chip in here, I can never afford a Kate print, it just simply insn't value for money either, however I really love the image. If I get a reproduction I will still love the image and it will look great on my wall, so the problem seems to be if someone is willing to make this image accessible (and the reproduction on Ebay is not the correct size) is it wrong for me to buy it? I think not, as much as I disagree with the parasitic nature of selling reproductions it does give me access to an image I would like to own but simply cannot get no matter how much I save, if we take market values, I don't think the market value equates to a fair justification for the amount of enjoyment I would get from hanging it on my wall.

Art Wanted, by Layaway Days Art Blog on Jul 28, 2011 12:03:29 GMT 1, I think the only one I would seriously consider is 'laugh now' as my wife and I are primatologists hahahaha (they are all apes - not monkeys by the way LOL!) however, I just wouldn't spend the $$ to frame a reproduction. Don't know why, I just wouldn't. I'd rather just use the images that he says you can use and make a canvas or photo print etc.. Would work for us, but I understand why people would want the replica. Probably was Banksy putting it out for a laugh though

Art Wanted, by klyde on Jul 28, 2011 17:34:43 GMT 1, I bought a turf war.
None of my friends know who banksy is really so I wont have to explain that its a copy when they go "oooOOOooo when did you get that".
ยฃ50 for one of my fav images and what looks like great quality. No idea how many they are planning on making (says 10, sold 4) so I jumped. Feedback so far looks good.
Will be hung in my downstairs toilet.
That is all.

Please post a review of the quality when you get it. It would be great if someone who has an original could get a copy to compare.

Might suggest they produce a laugh now and a sale ends. That will be enough for me!

Art Wanted, by Baby Dave on Jul 28, 2011 18:36:11 GMT 1, I got the HMV.
I am very impresses with it. Im not an expert with all this jazz but i would say that it is a proper screen print. The paper is not a cheap type either, its thick and heavy...its even got some speckled bits thrown in.
My only qualm is i think the image should be a tiny tiny bit darker..... i havent got an original to compare it to tho.
My delivery was super fast and the image was sent flat between two large sheets of heavy duty board.
I am uploading my pics now.....

Art Wanted, by Baby Dave on Jul 28, 2011 19:24:46 GMT 1, I really can't see how these guys are going to be 'allowed' to put that many copies of each print out there.
People have been printing Banksy images for ages now, be it on box canvas, mugs, posters, keyrings and even t-shirts. The seller of these makes no hesitation to state that these are copies. This puts him in the same ball park as all the other sellers of Banksy merchandise. I know there is an issue of the copies being so good they cold perhaps deceive someone, but this seller, IMO, isnt trying to deceive.
At least by numbering them and giving them a limited run he/she wont be printing thousands and thousands..... Just my opinion....

Art Wanted, by tobaum on Jul 28, 2011 19:25:10 GMT 1, Let's be clear, as Banksy do not produce any merchandising stuff and does not make any ยฃ on the flippers resale, I can't see anything wrong. It is not as the seller was stoling money from the artist, it does not change anything to Banksy. The only difference is for the fans who cannot afford his print. Honestly I am sicker when I see someone buying a Banksy print for ยฃ 450 and then selling it the day after for ยฃ5k. There is no way I pay that kind of money for a print and I am a real fan... a fan without any print because of flippers and because I am not based in London (so no line for me). Those are old prints priced as back in 2003 and it looks like a real work was done regarding quality. I would be happy to have at least one of those on my wall.

the screenprint art market as a whole is destined to be up sh*ts creek if this practice gets legs...bad idea to support it...just me opinion is all...

Art Wanted, by pcant on Jul 28, 2011 19:45:26 GMT 1, Boaty, you've got a point, but I think the impact will be on the money, not the art. I mean, as many people have pointed out, if they can't afford a real HMV or Turf War, and they just really like the image, this is an option. On the other hand, art investors, who are at some point going to sell on for profit, it could cause some concern. I can't help but think Banksy would be on the side of the "I like it and want to hang it on my wall," not the "how much will it be worth" crowd. At least, I hope so.

I agree that selling on these fakes as real ones is WHOLLY wrong. With these though they are marked up as copies on the rear. I know that there will be ways around this to deceive people but the emphasis is on the buyer to do their background checks. Get pics, COA evidence etc.... There will always be fraudsters out there that will try and con us good folk....... Its just down to us to use some common sense and a bit of investigation when buying an 'original'

Does anyone here will buy a Banksy print without pestcontrol COA? Or at least without seeing the POW stamp on the HMV print? Or even a number on the front? I don't think so... but you're right outside this forum some people might have a bad surprise. Didn't thought about that as it is not conceivable for me spending that kind of money without serious provenance.

Art Wanted, by boatyb on Jul 28, 2011 21:19:02 GMT 1, The HMV is not gloss like the real deal but a nice print all in all. They are editions of 500 Are there flecks of black/grey in the original paper ??
the key driver behind my commenting on this thread in the first place was the "edition of 500" - is that the edition size of each of the reproductions being sold? - if so, imo, this market is way too young to support that scale of formal secondary screenprint "reproduction"...ripens it for more fraud in the longer term...
but, 500 x 50 a pop x (how many prints?) = nice!! (nice work, if you c!an find it)...
i'm done.... ;D
