An original on paper at the 2k or less mark looks like this.



Which I much prefer over any silk screened multiple. We all know what her print looks like so I'll skip that one, but a canvas in the 10kish range looks like this:


Now, I dont feel her silkscreened prints have the same feeling as either the works on paper or the canvas. Its completely different.

I love all 3 of the works (paper, canvas, print), but in this scenario youd find me grabbing the paper for 2k, or nothing. Im still bummed I didnt buy your Maya Nosnereb.

I really love that large canvas.  The small one on paper - not so much.  Part of what I like about her work is the transparencies and the way it creates a feeling of depth.  Without that, I just see a bunch of X's.

Yep Fed, I can see how that's attractive. I like them all for various reasons, I feel the work on paper is similar to a sketch, rough and undefined. The canvas is very defined and looked after, and the prints are a representation of her style. But, they're still just prints, you and 30 other people own it, unlike the paper and canvas where it's only yours.

I have a couple that worked out even cheaper than this when adjusted for size, bought in Sept'14. Prices only recently moved on originals.. I think its partly a Miami effect thing, they probably won't move up in primary for another year

Full disclosure, I've been following Maya for several years now and own several originals and a couple prints. Yes, her prices have risen since this summer (I agree part of it is the "Miami effect"). As evidenced by recent prices and projects, she is clearly trying to move up the scale in terms of price and visibility.

There will always be plenty of flippers around shuffling around prints, but the real question remains as to where her collector base heads next on the primary market.

I am more concerned about galleries pressuring her to increase production of "X"'s, which might put her works in more collectors' hands, but limit the upside (simple supply/demand). Time will tell, I think she's quite talented and am very happy to have her works displayed at home.

I find it funny that people are complaining about the price of the print. It's twice the size and less than half the run, of 'Very X', so obviously warrants a higher price tag. It may be a tad on the high side, but it's not outrageous by any means. And really only 20 or so were probably sold, as I'm sure a few were passed around to friends and family, and a few kept as backups for the case of a damaged print(s) in transit. So for such a small run, and a massive print, I think collectors who were able to snag one, lucked out on this one!

Comparing this print to OG's that don't look like it, and are half the size, isn't a fair comparison. I know the Chem Trails canvases (30x40), were in the ballpark of 7-10K (USD).

there are no backups from kayrock. mine came in with damage. Mondo does a better job packing a 50 dollar poster than how mine came in. thin U line, wrapping paper did not span the entire print and the caps are chit. cap went in the tube for me and damaged an edge. asked for a replacement only to be given a response of ... we can refund you once you return the item.

if galleries/studios want to start asking for these prices for prints, they better treat the product like it actually cost as much.

end rant and I am geting my money back.

And I agree. I've gotten my fair share of damaged prints from galleries as well. It's terrible and unacceptable, that they don't seem to grasp the concept of how to properly pack a print. It's a really, really, easy thing to do.

That's unfortunate EBT. If I'm not mistaken, this was the same issue from the recent Blek show.... and I know first hand this was the same issue with the Dface "Scars & Stripes" show where they handled the Suckface and Hollywood Boom print situation just as poorly.

These galleries really need to get their shite together!
