Os Gemeos @99prints, by nah on Jan 29, 2014 11:26:26 GMT 1, I would have loved to own an OG print. But I think even more that 4k is an absurd price for a print. I want to give you an example; Takashi Murakami is at number 21 of 500 in the world rankings in sales of contemporary art 2012/2013 (at number 58 Banksy, Os Gemeos at number 247). The auction turnover of Murakami was €8,128,118 in 2012/2013, against the €471.784 of the twins . Despite this you can find on ebay Takashi Murakami prints even at less than 1,000 Euros. Pharrell spends 500k for a Murakami Original even if there are prints on ebay at less of 1k; Because an original is an original and a print is a print..this is the truth as graffuturism pointed out though, a market like Murakami's is driven by the higher end with less support on the lower end, whereas the guys we follow on here tend to be the opposite

Retna • Eastern Realm, Gold & Silver, by nah on Jan 19, 2014 18:01:45 GMT 1, That post by Retna gave me a whole new perspective on him... for me it confirmed that his work is sadly as thin as it looks. an interior decorators dream though: lots of neutral colors, vaguely 'cool', yet completely bland and inoffensive

Banksy - Better Out Than In - New York - BOTI, by nah on Oct 31, 2013 23:20:12 GMT 1, i can see how his work puts critics in a tough spot. amusing and revealing to see saltz trying desperately to frame banksy's work in the context of the contemporary art world with barely relevant comparisons to Lawrence Weiner and Gabriel Orozco
the art blogs that focused on the public's reaction to the pieces (eg hyperallergic) come out of this looking a million times better than those critiquing it the same way they would a standard exhibition by a standard artist

Just how big do you think JR will become? , by nah on Oct 25, 2013 18:22:58 GMT 1, there are prints by richard prince, ed ruscha, damien hirst and so on still available at source. it means nothing. it's interesting that instant print sellouts have become such a make or break thing in the urban art and expressobeans world, but there's less emphasis put on whether or not gallery shows sell out. almost a complete opposite to the 'real' art world.

Oscar Murillo Updates, by nah on Oct 19, 2013 2:05:03 GMT 1, Unbelievable that's absolutely shocking. Was very tempted to dig deep on the credit card and buy a lottery ticket with the hope of an original as the obvious prize. Only reason why I didn't was I didn't get why the lottery ticket was also drawn (literally painted) by a member of his family. Oh well, glad I dodged this one. the prizes were never going to be as conventional as a bunch of paintings - a look at his past performances would have confirmed that. but i'm still surprised by how shambolic this sounds given the 2.5k entry fee. at least everyone gets an original

Faile: Be there or not?, by nah on Oct 17, 2013 4:53:06 GMT 1, to me a large part of how acceptable this is depends on whether or not the piece meets their usual standards. if you've trained an assistant to the point they basically paint with your hand... what's the difference?

The Best Film Ever, by nah on Sept 24, 2013 13:49:49 GMT 1, speakin' of Chopper, Bronson is pretty good, ok not one your gonna sit down with the missus on a rainy afternoon but worth a watch none the less.. Tom Hardy as Bane makes total sense Speaking of Bronson - I love Drive (& every other Refn film) Pusher 1-3 are amazing. I'd go as far as saying it's one of the most solid and consistant trilogies out there

Who are the rising stars in art?, by nah on Aug 31, 2013 15:41:51 GMT 1, is there a reason that only urban artists are being mentioned in this thread? we don't actually think every art star for the next few years is going to rise from this one scene, right?

How to read up on art history?, by nah on Aug 30, 2013 13:54:16 GMT 1,
maybe not one to read cover to cover but useful to have to hand as if you see an essay referenced somewhere the chances of it being in here are relatively high

FS Banksy Nola, by nah on Aug 22, 2013 0:46:20 GMT 1, lol "the best one"...uh thats pretty simple, its the highest no? Or am I making this too simple/easy? gl though ive only sold a couple things on here in the past (that i recall) but it's never that easy
sell to highest offer, but they live overseas and have no posts/references? or sell to the second highest offer, but they won't be able to pay for a month? or sell to the lowball offer from the guy that can pay instantly and insisted it will go straight on the wall?
etc

Amazon Art , by nah on Aug 7, 2013 13:06:14 GMT 1, Am I the only one that can see the massive irony and hypocrisy of someone saying that this scene is 'anti capitalist' when prints that originally cost around £300 - £400 are changing hands on this site for anything up to around £15k??!! As has just been pointed out, eBay is also a huge corporate company so I don't see why Amazon are being singled out. Amazon is being singled out because an artist started this thread stating they were jumping on the Amazon corporate bandwagon. He also ended the first post with 'winge away'. Why I wonder? The thread Pure Evil started, this one, is called 'Amazon Art'. I don't think it is lame to call PE out on this at all. Is there much of a difference between this thread and a thread in the For Sale section with just a link to a members ebay auction? Yes it's a new and exciting venture by Amazon to get into the art industry but it's a business venture by a HUGE company that will take out small businesses if it does take off. Does PE have employees at his gallery? 'Your Heart Is A Weapon The Size Of Your Fist Keep Fighting Keep Loving' is a powerful message and one of PE's works that I really like so I was disappointed to see this thread and I felt I had to say something. My back went up when PE said he's going into this with his eyes open because I associate 'open your eyes' and 'eyes wide open' with actually seeing how the world is being run and not just opening your eyes for business. There is hypocrisy in all of us but you have to make a start in doing what you know is right. in its current form i don't see how it can do anything but help small galleries. why would it take them out?

Representational VS. Non-representational Art, by nah on Jul 29, 2013 17:43:19 GMT 1, ... Abstract art was a small blip in the history of art dominated by a small coterie of bourgeois art dealers who were desperately looking for the "new" to sell to their equally bourgeois collectors. The shock of the new. But it was a castle built on sand and without the continued support of a couple of major dealers, collapsed. ..huh? maybe i misunderstood your post but when it comes to contemporary painting abstraction is by far the dominating force right now

An Original Gary Hume Painting for only £150 at Tate, by nah on Jun 27, 2013 14:40:02 GMT 1, Someone's taking the p*ss right!!!!! Even Bambie makes more of an effort than that. if only effort had anything to do with quality. how annoying it must be to spend a week slaving away on a drawing only to be upstaged by a a black rectangle where the title does 99% of the work
