Oscar Murillo Updates, by Winter on Sept 27, 2013 17:22:13 GMT 1, I went to book last night when they were available but thought I wouldn't realistically be able to get there. Good that someone else will get the chance to attend.

Oscar Murillo Updates, by Dr Plip on Sept 28, 2013 0:12:39 GMT 1, This is an interesting profile piece:
www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-09-18/oscar-murillo-mints-money-with-scribbles-dirt-food.html
โThis kid is striking,โ said Mera Rubell in an interview. โWhen you meet him, you want to be part of the story."
"She and her husband, Don Rubell, met Murillo earlier that year in New York. Knowing they were coming to his temporary studio, he created nine new paintings in 48 hours.
They invited him to be the first resident artist at their foundation in Miami. He stayed for five weeks and made 50 artworks. "
โWe bought all 50 works,โ Rubell said."
They bought all 50 pieces for their foundation. Can you imagine buying 50 Banksys? Or 50 works off any artist?

No his prices are reflecting the fact he's signed for David Zwirner

Oscar Murillo Updates, by Deleted on Sept 28, 2013 10:28:10 GMT 1, KENNY SCHACHTER HAS JUST PUBLISHED THIS ON HIS FACEBOOK WALL ABOUT YESTERDAYโS FLOP BY A PIECE BY OSCAR MURILLO AT SOTHEBYโS. MY ANSWER TO SCHACHTER AT THE END OF EACH ONE OF HIS PARAGRAPHS:
KS SAYS: โRun on sentence. after spending time with murillo and family, I began to care for him and even went to s. london show 2x. and Iโm not too crazy about going out to galleries in the first instance, its a giant pain they are so far and wide coupled with my pathological fear of getting lost. i really liked it at first but less so 2nd time. then guess what? he hit 200k yesterday. he is all of a baby at 27. most people his age, said to be cleaning offices 2 years ago would fall to floor and kiss earth selling for 200k i would if i sold art (I have some tucked away if youโd like to take a look). for him this is considered a potential fatality.
My COMMENT: Actually this is what the market does with young artists, mostly the desperate ones. Too much too soon, they end up scaring away the potential collectors and the market for that artist dissappears before it appears. This was a typical situation in the auction houses during the financial boom (for example: Youssef Nabil and Mustafa Hlusu). They ended up not being able to sell their art through the galleries and finding a few of her works fetichised as hot commodities. Maybe someone will explain to me why Oscar Murillo was chosen to fill this role because there is nothing in his work that deserves this kind of attention apart from the stupid fact that he seems to be a Colombian right wing response to Jean Michel Basquiat.

KS: Tomorry may end up being a good or great artist, or not. but despite all the adulation, even matthew barney was not a fully fleshed out artist after his first epic barbara Gladstone show I saw in 1991. I do not think of om in the same way matthew seemingly appeared out of space to jar our visual language in a way that hadnโt been seen or spoken before (and look whatโs happened to his career, marketwise). Our friend at issue here is cut more from more r. tiravanija cloth.
i remember JS wrote when barney was on cover of artforum still in his very early 20โs to this day that he saw cremaster 28, the first one, 75x. or whatever random number he named them โ very anti richter, or โthrough a Vaseline tube slowlyโ what it should have been called. Also uncle jerry has eaten and recounted countess rikrit spring roll giveaways at 303 in the day, but i find even that overly contrived โ just another case of converting the converted. this all seems vaguely disingenuous both rikrit and om. but hey, i could be wrong. Let us see.
My comment: Kenny, you are just a sycophant and a coward. Just say that you hate his work and that you are in uncomfortable situation because you spent a whole weekend sucking his familyโs cock. Some people make mistakes, you make them more than oftenโฆ (Your Thek Pace show is another mistake and comes from a place of desperation)
KS: when we were art world toddlers money rarely, if ever, entered discourse, other than to complain about not having any. we were pretty happy with the crumbs, fun and passion but still complained of course. seeing it was an engaging trek and challenge, always involving a steep learning curve. I left law and financial world to go into art 25 years ago, admittedly I wasnโt very good at either but many here would say I should have remained a mediocre attorney. now art is bigger business than big business. cha-ching.
My comment: art is bigger business than big business? YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR MIND AND YOU ARE SEEING THIS THE WRONG WAY. WHY ARE YOU INTERESTED IN ART, THEN? FOR MONEY?
Ladies and Gentleman take your seats, the financial critics make their case yet again this afternoon and they appear a very happy lot these days; they just donโt seem to make our JS and a lot of other artists and old style writing critics very happy. Used to be an artistโs exhibits were reviewed time to time during course of their exhibition history. Today, we have judgments rendered on a daily basis measured in bids.
My comment: Sunshine, that is what YOU DO! DO NOT TRY TO BE THE GOOD ONE NOW!!!
KS: Yet another new test, in the nascent life of the MMI (Murillo Market Index) is upon us.
My comment: We both know that he is dead before starting and you are one of the butchers. Just a thought
Whatโs it going to be, place your vote: Pennies from Heaven or Dog Day Afternoon? I certainly got it wrong in yesterdayโs game.

for the money id take a joe bradley any day of the week over this.

To really discuss this issue...we probably both need to submit a Masters Thesis each!
