Low print number, by wimpy on Jan 5, 2008 22:35:11 GMT 1, I'd hunt for a low number depending on the printing process. With all these screenprints, as long as the screens are cared for properly, the image degradation over an edition is so minimal.
If you are talking about a linocut, woodcut, etching, collograph, etc there is a much better chance of loss of clarity of the image as ink can fill the cutout parts or the material itself can wear a bit from the pressure of the press. The ink also just builds up and gets tacky pretty quickly. Your copper, linoleum, and so on can be cleaned during a run but it just isn't practical.
Hell... some people like later numbers because they enjoy the image degrading a touch. I know I'm happy as hell to have a super low number of Sepia Morons as I hate the nasty green ink mixture they ended up with during the later part of the edition.
Then you just have people that are OCD and need to have even numbers or odd. Add superstition, astrology, and whatever other crazy crap on top of that...

A Sneaky thread for all those gunners out there, by wimpy on Jan 5, 2008 3:39:24 GMT 1, Very funny video of Beckham (well it made me smile).
That is exactly what I was referring to with the Rosco's bit.
I love how he helps Snoop lie to his wife.

Creased Print from POW, by wimpy on Feb 3, 2008 10:23:00 GMT 1, I had trouble seeing your post at first because your signature is so overwhelmingly large and funny.
Sorry... an "a" instead of an "o".
One mispelled letter makes people not listen?

Creased Print from POW, by wimpy on Feb 3, 2008 10:01:47 GMT 1, Are you people being serious?
Those edges are SUPER fragile.
You can't expect the deckle not to have a single mm tear somewhere or be folded in a bit. It is paper, after all, and quite maleable. How do you think they do the stamp? Printing papers are meant to give for so many reasons (callography, intaglio, embossing, etc). You have to realize that the majority of the time this type of paper is used is in a press and soaking wet, too.
As far as the sheet being torn, that last pic is exactly that. They tear it like that for a reason - to match the deckle. I've done it a million times and the idea is to make it look torn.

Customized Prints - BAST, Faile, Miss Bugs etc, by wimpy on Dec 22, 2007 21:16:21 GMT 1, I don't buy mass-run screenprints for just that reason, aside from Banksy.
I would if the image was REALLY catching, but otherwise I usually like to look at work that wasn't done by a machine or through an exacting, repetitive machine-like process.

2008 + Banksy = ?, by wimpy on Dec 21, 2007 11:50:47 GMT 1, I think Hirst's ability to question 'what really is art' mixed with Banksy's ability to question 'who cares what art really is' balances each other off perfectly
Well said. +

In all seriousness..., by wimpy on Dec 20, 2007 19:07:25 GMT 1, I can.
Coming from moderating many a music forum, I know how it is.
I'm not one for censorship and whatnot, but eventually the delete button has to be used to stop people from poking the same old piece of poo with a different stick.

Framed Trolleys or SOS - pictures or suggestions, by wimpy on Dec 20, 2007 19:45:54 GMT 1, I'm either covering the numbers with the regular 1/4" matboard overhang or just matting all the way to the color. I really have no desire to display the deckle (doesn't add any real positive effect to this type of image to me) nor the number/blindstamp.

Scavos' Trolleys Love Shots, by wimpy on Dec 21, 2007 11:17:57 GMT 1, Anyone with a Trolley & J&J is the blue the same?
No... the blue background in J&J is much deeper light blue (nearing neon) while the Trolleys is more of a baby/powder blue.

Scavos' Trolleys Love Shots, by wimpy on Dec 20, 2007 18:59:27 GMT 1, All I know is that I keep staring at my trolleys as it flattens out and think about how it is now my favorite Banksy print by far.
Not only is it a commentary on consumerism/capitalism, but it just makes me think about refreshing that early morning and buggin' out just to get a stupid piece of paper (like an empty shopping cart). Then I also think about all the people who really got empty baskets that day, too. This print sums it ALL up for me.

Scavos' Trolleys Love Shots, by wimpy on Dec 20, 2007 12:44:35 GMT 1, Generally you stay away from direct-matching the mount and go with a Manor White or something similar. Makes the actual print pop (especially with the deckle).

Is Acid Free Tape Bulls**t? Question About Framing, by wimpy on Dec 20, 2007 10:00:12 GMT 1, Mylar corners. They gotta have these in England too. Its a plastic pocket for the corners so nothing is stuck to the print. I couldnt imagine putting any type of adhesive on a $X,XXX print. I use the mylar corners when shipping things but wouldn't they show up if you used them when framing? Thanks for the pic.
Some of the corners are cut in the front at a 90 degree angle so they don't show. Some are just 45 degrees and show a bit. Either way, you can barely see them and only if you are looking for them. The same companies also make straight mylar pieces that you can just put on the bottom, top, and sides around the print. The only damage you do is to the backing board when you peel those off. You probably won't find these in the framing section of an art store chain, but look in photo sections as they are usually called "Photo-Mounting" tools.

I am Legend, by wimpy on Dec 18, 2007 16:37:54 GMT 1, Yeah, this isn't a spoiler, but all the songs came from his "Legend" album
Yeah... I wouldn't have said it if it spoiled anything. I figure if anything more people will see it when they hear that. Whether that is a good thing or not... I don' t really know.

I am Legend, by wimpy on Dec 18, 2007 16:11:49 GMT 1, Same. The premise was fantastic, but the movie was poorly executed. So many holes. They could have done it better in 2 parts maybe so I wouldn't be wondering about so many things after.
When I saw all the previews I had no idea the whole thing was about Bob Marley.

Banksy is commanding good prices steadily at this point. I'd say it is the real deal now.
Let us give these other guys some time to see if they hold up.

Tile adhesive, by wimpy on Dec 12, 2007 11:35:00 GMT 1, No problem. And don't be scared to "grout" it using the same glue (instead of grout, obviously). It actually looks dope if the glue you end up buying dries clear.
Finally, it can't hurt to build a tiny supportive frame around the finished work or even just a supportive piece of metal or wood at the bottom to help hold the tiles' weight.
Good luck! Hope it turns out well.

Tile adhesive, by wimpy on Dec 12, 2007 11:27:23 GMT 1, Weldbond is what I use.
But there are like 10,000 multipurpose glues out there. Anything that is designed to hold masonry, wood, plastic, glass, etc is good to go.
You can just back it on a hefty sheet of plywood (dig some scratches into it first, though, so the glue can get in there).
