Show us your Sex Pistols................., by fattyramone on Nov 3, 2014 13:56:06 GMT 1, Hi Cai. , we had a lot of Eastern Europeans working in the pits then , even though we generically referred to them all as "The Polish" ...pretty much similar to now eh? ..nothing changes much.
And likewise the Italians , practically every cafe in the Rhondda and Ponty were ran by some Italian family or other ......generically we called them "the Bracchi's"......best ice-cream , steamed pies and frothy-coffees anywhere.
As far as I'm aware there was no racial overtones to the name "The Bracchi's'" , just a bit like referring to "scousers and Geordies".
Appolgies to all for turning this thread into a Plaid Cymru meeting!

Show us your Sex Pistols................., by fattyramone on Nov 3, 2014 2:46:18 GMT 1, Is that your recording /youtube upload? ...
if so your going to be very popular
Heres some photos from the gig and more interestingly with the pistols arriving at the gig and at an Esso garage before hand ....it's a good reminder to those who weren't old enough to remember first hand at just how normal and ordinary most of them looked before the "fashion punk" era caught hold.
there's quite a few pages of photos to root through , great stuff

who delivers Shepard Fairey print to the uk?, by fattyramone on Oct 30, 2014 13:47:27 GMT 1, Dealing with UPS deliveries.
One of the easiest courier companies to deal with in regards correcting wrongly applied 20% import VAT rates right there and then on the doorstep.
When the driver arrives try and be polite and courteous to him , he's not the person to blame for the ineptness of the on going problems we experience and you need to get him on your side and willing to wait while you make a quick telephone call that shouldn't take more than 5 minutes , and can often be achieved in under 2 minutes.
STEP 1 .... Ring the telephone number on the top right hand side of the pink slip ..the number is 0845 161 0016 .....you will be offered a push button option , .....push button 2(querying VAT import rate)
STEP 2 ..... Explain to the operator that you have been charged the incorrect rate of 20% as you have bought artwork/limited edition print and have been charged 20% instead of the correct 5% and that you would like to be issued with a "H number ref code".
She will ask you for your name and address and the"Waybill number" printed on the pink slip , this often begins with the letters and numbers "1Z1Y........" and is located just below your printed name and address on the pink slip
STEP 3 ...At this point the operator should know what your talking about and will request to speak to the driver , he will then write the unique "H number" on your pink slip and then charge you the correct rate accordingly.
AND THATS IT!
It really is that simple , minimum fuss and minimum effort involved on your behalf.
Just bear in mind that the drivers themselves often have never heard of the expression "H number" , its not something they normally have to deal with , but the phone operators do.
Also bear in mind that if your dealing with "Shepard Fairey" related prints that Obey seems to have a business agreement with UPS that they charge his customers (you!) a reduced "handling charge" of ยฃ3.30 instead of the usual ยฃ12 they charge for paying UK customs upfront on your behalf , and on the odd occasions when the new figure is calculated the operator can accidentally over look this fact and can result in them reducing the VAT rate to 5% but then add on an incorrect ยฃ12 "handling charge" leaving you not that much better off if you don't correct them.....your handling charge should only be ยฃ3.30 NOT ยฃ12.
P.S. ....one last thing , UPS send you a tracking number by email when its entered their system , keep an eye open on this then when its entered in the UK you can try and pre-empt the invariable overcharging issue by ringing the telephone number (above) and asking what the VAT charge is going to be (your required waybill number will be in the email that was sent to you). If this seems wrong then you can explain over the phone that its wrong and they should be able to correct it even before it leaves for delivery ensuring minimum fuss for you and the delivery driver on arrival.
Please also note that until the package has entered into the UK and gone through customs that UPS cant do anything as they wont know yet what customs have said is owed on the item....

who delivers Shepard Fairey print to the uk?, by fattyramone on Oct 30, 2014 13:44:22 GMT 1, UPS ....and although like all the other courier companies including Parcel Force / USPS they charge the wrong tariff for VAT they are a dream to deal with in regards putting it right before you hand over the wrong amount.
For a normal priced Obey print and postage you shouldn't need to hand over much more than ยฃ7.
However you'll often tried to charged in the region of ยฃ18-ยฃ26.
Just preempt this by either ringing them or emailing them once you've had your tracking/waybill number sent to you and explain the situation ....and they will issue what is known as an "H" number and correct it for you.
You can even do this when the driver is there on your doorstep , ring the number , the operator will talk to the driver , a "H" number will be issued there and then and you'll pay the correct amount.
They really are soooooo easy to contact and put things right.

Banksy Original at Auction smashes reserve, by fattyramone on Sept 25, 2014 23:48:37 GMT 1, I knew these kind of terms exist , but does anyone know how they came about to be accepted practice?
How enforceable are they?
These are the terms I mean .....
"Artist's Resale Right ("Droit de Suite"). Artist's Resale Right Regulations 2006 apply to this lot, the buyer agrees to pay us an amount equal to the resale royalty provided for in those Regulations, and we undertake to the buyer to pay such amount to the artist's collection agent."

Not available, by fattyramone on Sept 6, 2014 1:19:06 GMT 1, You can stick it up your arse when you turn on the Ebay Global Shipping Programme , it currently wants to charge us $166 in 20% VAT tax when it should be only a quarter of that...I.e 5%
let us in the UK fight our own tax battles with our own tax system , we don't need a USA export firm charging us here a wrongly assessed amount.

Banksy โข Flower Thrower โข Love is in the Air, by fattyramone on Aug 22, 2014 13:43:59 GMT 1, Personally, think some small imperfections on screen prints are charming - proves they're hand made and not done by some machine or computer Me too Fed, if its just imperfections from screening then there's no problem, doesn't effect value as its the way it was created, very different to damage/repair. Going off tangent somewhat but in a similar vein , when I was collecting and trading original Beatles ephemera I was selling an early1962 NME (just as they signed to EMI/Parlophone) and in it was a tiny advert for their upcoming first ever single "Love me Do" ,it really was a tiny mention of them
anyway after much to-ing and fro-ing with a potential American buyer , he decided against buying it because the advert "wasn't big enough" ....the fact that this was at the (near) very beginning of their epoch changing career didn't wash with him , he couldn't see that this was it ...that's all there was at that stage , nope he wanted a BIG advert ...it didn't exist at that stage!

Show us your Sex Pistols................., by fattyramone on Aug 22, 2014 13:17:36 GMT 1, Even smaller world ...after starting off in Ynysybwl , I'm now in rural Cambridgeshire ...not a million miles from You in Lincolnshire Ynysybwl? How would you go about pronouncing that? I thought you'd had a keyboard fit or something at first!! Cheers, UmBongo It's not as unpronoucible as it may seem .... the key is to bear in mind "Y" is used as a vowel in Welsh , so phonetically you would say "un-iss-a-bull" ' say it quickly to form one word...
The Welsh alphabet just uses different vowels to English ...Double "LL" is a vowel too (you see that everywhere)....coincidently , there are no "J"s in the Welsh alphabet , so the name that is most synonymous with being Welsh i.e. "Jones" is not really possible
And the prefix "Aber" that you will see everywhere in Wales ...Abercynon , Aberdare , Abercwmboyd etc etc ..is simple to understand why too ..."Aber" simply means "The mouth of" (beginning of)
.....and here endeth your first lesson , now off you go to Chapel and if you go breaking your leg on the way , don't come running to me......

Show us your Sex Pistols................., by fattyramone on Aug 22, 2014 0:09:28 GMT 1, Similar story with me too , I was a 14 year old deep in the Rhondda Valleys where info was slow to seep to back then and the first I knew of "punk" was the fuss in the papers after the Bill Grundy show ....as 14 year old all the "up yours" attitude was very appealing but I hadn't yet heard any of this new fangled "punk" music.
Somehow I got to hear that they were playing in Caerphilly which although only about 15 miles away from my village would have taken hours back then to have made the journey by bus , winding through sleepy village after sleepy village , so I didn't make the journey , at that point I didn't even know what "punk" sounded like?
Cut a long story short , a few weeks later I went to Rainbow Records in Pontypridd precinct and asked naively if he had any "punk records" , and seeing as I was financially independent due to my ยฃ1 a day , 7 days a week milk round (ยฃ7 a week!) I was able to buy Damned , Damned , Damned and the Ramones 2nd album "Leave Home"...the rest is history , I fell in love with the first wave of "punk" and bitterly regretted not going to Caerphilly to catch The Pistols when I had the chance , consoling myself that I would go and see them "next time" they toured ...of course "next time" was never to come.
like you I caught up with them at Finsbury park years later , and again at Brixton a few years later again , but it's my biggest regret that I had the chance to see the original band in the moment and blew it......
I saw everyone else of note from the time though , even supported Wire (Chairs Missing tour) and the ReVillos(not the ReZillos)..... Great halyon days

SHEPARD FAIREY X PRINTS ON WOOD - COFFEE TABLE/ART PIECE, by fattyramone on Aug 19, 2014 22:03:23 GMT 1, Nerd Alert ...Nerd Alert ...Nerd Alert
The real record in the centre of this piece is "Andy Williams - Born Free"..which is ok I suppose , but he could have gone for something with a bit more Rock n Roll to it , maybe something like Showaddywaddy doing "Under the moon of love" or David Essex "Lamplight"

Paypal currency conversion costs - I need GBP!, by fattyramone on Aug 5, 2014 2:25:32 GMT 1, Ok , I'll concede this , if there is money in the account then maybe not.
but I've seen enough horror story's of paypal freezing accounts for months on end not to want to keep anything more than a trivial amount in the account to benefit from it.

Paypal currency conversion costs - I need GBP!, by fattyramone on Aug 5, 2014 2:22:03 GMT 1, Can you test this? Go to the send money page, typ in a random amount (lets say 500 GBP) and click send as gift, what fee do you see when you are in the UK? I don't need to test it , I do it regularly we here in the UK DO get charged , no ifs or buts about it.
it may be a marginally lower figure than sending it normally but there are charges attached.

Paypal currency conversion costs - I need GBP!, by fattyramone on Aug 5, 2014 1:41:36 GMT 1, No it's not the same , whenever we in the UK gift a payment the sender just pick up the tab that normally the receiver picks up.
This raises an interesting question though , I've heard some Americans claim that gifting a payment costs nothing to no-one , now your saying it's the same in Holland? ...and presumably the rest of Europe?.....is the UK the only country that has to pay to "gift" a payment?
Any other foreign countrymen want to chip in with their experience of paypal gift fees.

Whenever I've gifted payment it's always cost me more than the figure I've sent....rather than the recipient picking up the bill.
For example If I send you โฌ100 as per normal you receive โฌ96 ....if I gift you โฌ100 then I get charged โฌ104 for doing so.
Paypal still get their cut no matter what.
So if as a favour, you would want me to "gift" you ยฃ100 so that you have ยฃยฃยฃยฃ's in your paypal then I want you to reimburse me ยฃ104 ...which leaves you back at square one? ...your no better off , you've saved nothing.

Paypal currency conversion costs - I need GBP!, by fattyramone on Aug 5, 2014 0:51:01 GMT 1, I can't see what you are looking to gain? ...the paypal percentage would still apply no matter what?
If your looking to send payment in ยฃยฃยฃ's can't you just choose to send the ยฃยฃยฃ equiverlant from the currency drop down bar in paypal? ...I can choose to send payment in loads of different currency's from my UK account....surely you can do the same in Holland?
Or if you need ยฃยฃ cash any Holland bank would have it? ...I used to visit Holland a lot and never have trouble exchanging currency?
There's no real way of getting around paying Paypal's percentage rake ...that's what they are in buisness for.
