D*FACE Artwork, VALUATION, by fattyramone on Aug 22, 2016 22:10:20 GMT 1, Hi Christoff ....thanks for your input on the matter , in regards it's size and weight for postage , to be honest it's not an awful lot bigger nor heavier than a double/triple LP (16x18 as apposed to 12x12)....so I would guess ยฃ30(?) max to the USA.
I'm not regarding this as a long-lost Urban art masterpiece and expecting it to be worth thousands but I would argue the case that for a Dface/urban art collector it has it's place as an artefact in his growth as an artist , wether or not his place in urban art history gets cemented is for the future to decide.(?)
As for its authenticity , once you get your eye in on any particular spot on the piece that was published on his website you can see the wood particles match exactly on the piece I've got , so there's no question there really...
Anyway , thank you for your thought-out contribution .
Cheers.

D*FACE Artwork, VALUATION, by fattyramone on Aug 22, 2016 19:52:29 GMT 1, Hi mate , I've absolutely no idea ? ....that's why I was trying to garner some critical feedback on it by introducing it into this thread.
I know it's not your classic "Lichenstein-esque" imagery that people have come to associate with Dface , but on the other hand it's certainly one of kind from him , and a documented one too.

D*FACE Artwork, VALUATION, by fattyramone on Aug 22, 2016 15:59:50 GMT 1, Can anyone give me some idea of the desirability/value of something like this ?
Spray paint (stencil) on wood
This was originally sprayed onto a 6ftx4ft particle board for the Dface "Love and Hate" show in 2012.......
One of the images shown was copied and pasted from DFace's website until very recently when he updated it.
The other images are photos that I've taken today to show that the wood particles match exactly that of the uploaded image to show it's originality....it's not signed or nothing but I'm 99.9% convinced of its pedigree due to the matching wood "grain".
As you can see I had it cut down to a much more manageable size approx 18 inch x 16 inch from 6 ft x 4 ft for ease of transportation.....nothing else was on the discarded wood.
I was offered it about 4 years ago as a bonus buy after buying something or other from a seller on EBay, as it was to be discarded after the show had finished.
And this is a screen grab from his website ....

Shepard Fairey Print up @ MOCA STORE OBEY, by fattyramone on May 21, 2015 1:12:30 GMT 1, It's no cheaper than ordering from Obey , marginally more expensive in fact. Postage to the UK was $55 on a $60 print. Plus then you'll get hit with the ยฃ8 parcel force handling charge and the incorrect 20% VAT, which although easy enough to claim back but it takes 2-3 months before you get the cheque in your hand. I got stung by Parcel Force for ยฃ19 last week, having ordered a $50 print from Obey. Parcel Force refused to budge - any tips? And wasn't it MOCA who buffed Blu's mural a couple of years ago because it was too edgy? Obey normal send their prints via UPS (not USPS/ Parcel Force)
As a rule of thumb they are in the region of $50 for UPS postage.
Obey have an agreement with UPS that they only charge ยฃ3.30 brokerage fee when it lands in the UK, and the 5% VAT customs charge itself should be in the ball park of ยฃ4-ยฃ5 ...ยฃ8 all in (give or take)
However Border Control seem to ignore any kind of correct tariff applied to it and blanket charge an incorrect 20% VAT.
However if you ring the phone number on the pink slip when the driver is present you can ask for a "H" number and the operator will speak to the driver there and then and apply the correct tariff charge......OR you can email brokerage at UPS beforehand and they will apply the correct tariff before it's delivered....it really is easy to do
If however , you have asked for it to be delivered via USPS/Parcel force , then you will have to pay a non refundable ยฃ8 brokerage charge and then claim back the 20% VAT overcharge by submitting the correct form along with all the relevant receipts and PayPal proof etc.
You WILL get refunded but in about 2 months time

Your Biggest Bargain, by fattyramone on Apr 27, 2015 21:25:10 GMT 1, As "hairbland" put so well , all this thread was for was for us to have a little natter and across-the-fence gossip about unexpected moments that Lady Luck shines her light upon us , a bit of light hearted fun that's all.
Given the subject matter it was hardly going to make a riveting read if we all posted about the times we've picked up a ยฃ20 print for a barguin price of ยฃ8.50 from a man in Stratford upon Avon..
Anyway , enough of that , I'm looking forward to your future "for sale" threads where you wear your heart on your sleeve , nail your sails to the mast and sell us everything you don't want for it's cost price and not sully your soul with the evil of profit.
Viva le revolution comrade.
:-)

Your Biggest Bargain, by fattyramone on Apr 27, 2015 18:51:56 GMT 1, Christ , it gets tedious when people splurt out the age old "money's not important, it's all about the art , yah" gumpf then in their next breath start a "for sale" thread along the likes of "Banksy , for sale , signed , mint , ยฃ25,000 no offers"
I'm not haveing a go at you personally mate , I don't know you from Adam. But honestly bud , bugger it's boring and very pretentious too.

St Georges Day - Giveaway, by fattyramone on Apr 24, 2015 0:47:27 GMT 1, Mine is an "old guy" called Tess Stobard ,no doubt he was only about 40 at the time , but 40 was "old" when your only 8 yourself.
He took control of the building of the dam needed to build our swimming hole over the brook in our village in Ynysybwl , South Wales every year that just seemed to miraculously appear , we took it for granted that it would be there every summer.
It wasn't until I got older that I could appreciate the huge effort it took on his part , as the dam itself was made of sandbags filled full of sand. No doubt the sandbags themselves were "borrowed" from our coal colliery but where on earth did he get all the sand from?...and there must have been at least 100 of the things needed and the brook itself was in the forest , isolated from any road.
Take a bow Tess Stobard, I'm now in my 50's but I remember you well through your efforts for us.
Disclaimer ... :-)
Even though this is a St. George's day tribute and all this occured in rural South Wales , Tess himself was a County Durham-er , when loads of Northern families moved to Wales to coal mine with us.
Tess Stobard , king of South Wales .........for a while.

PARCELFORCE IMPORT FEE CLAIM FORM HELP, by fattyramone on Apr 16, 2015 14:51:23 GMT 1, It's so frustrating, but you have to challenge it. The more knowledge you have about the rules that you can bring to them the better. I had a humungous import duty fee over the Faile Happens / the Right Now print, I wrote about it on here and had some useful information from ppl. Sorry, but you told me to accept it, but I didn't, I challenged it and eventually got the whole lot taken off due to them overcharging me, and the distress it caused me. If you dig up that thread you might find some useful info. The issue was something to do with whether it was an original artwork, or mechanically printed paper, and as it was an edition it should not be classed as original artwork. I wouldn't get overly technical with the details of what your claiming back to be honest....
just state that you've been over charged on the VAT and give them the correct artwork tarriff code to charge you with and be done with it.
On the whole they are innocently naive enough to not know what technically qualifies for 5% and what doesn't ...the moment you start getting technical with them they might dig deeper and start arguing that "this" or "that" format is discounted from being only 5%
ive claimed back on all sorts of "artwork" that according to the stupid laws shouldn't really qualify...but they don't know that and I've no intention of educating them to interpret their own laws either.

PARCELFORCE IMPORT FEE CLAIM FORM HELP, by fattyramone on Apr 16, 2015 14:34:58 GMT 1, Print off this form (I print off 10 at a time)
www.gov.uk/government/publications/vat-customs-dutyimport-vat-relating-to-imports-by-post-bor286
Takes two mins to fill in then send it off.
You'll get confirmation your being refunded within a few weeks , but actual payment itself takes about 2-3 months to come through.
You'll need to carefully take off the big white sticker on the tube , I back it on to some kitchen wax paper...the white paper paperwork that accompanied it.
Print off your paypal payment receipt page.
And any other proof of purchase you can think of.
As much as it's a huge pain in the arse they are pretty good at refunding.

Jamie Reid ๐ฌ๐ง Sex Pistols โข God Save the Queen โข Collage, by fattyramone on Apr 2, 2015 18:24:07 GMT 1, Yeah , me too Dan , if it were ยฃ250 instead of ยฃ350 I wouldn't have hesitated , but on top of everything else it would be a big dip out of my pocket at this moment....but I'm still tormenting myself even now!
Funnily enough I only got around to flattening out the distressed and folded poster that came with the vinyl boxset so that makes the decision a little easier for me as that image is large enough to satisfy albeit not signed or numbered.

Meaning behind Banksy prints, by fattyramone on Mar 30, 2015 21:34:32 GMT 1, Queen Victoria created strong anti-gay laws, so this print is probably either providing a comedic argument to the laws or perhaps even calling her out for being a closet lesbian and creating the harsh laws out of fear of being exposed. Who knows... I just assumed it was a straightforward pun on the act of Queening? ...i.e Face sitting..Queening Victoria
I don't think it's any deeper than that?
