Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by daveart on Jul 7, 2008 14:50:04 GMT 1, With all the Faile work changing hands as people try to make room for the new work it seems there are nice Failes around for $2000 - $5000. A lot of the unsigned Banksy work can be had in that range as well. Would you rather have an unsigned Banksy or the much lower edition signed Faile?

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by carlito on Jul 7, 2008 15:01:07 GMT 1, depends what you compare quite honestly, I'd choose a Bomb Middle England (Bombing Middle England) or a Weston Super Mare (Weston Super Mare) or a Love is in the Air over most Failes, but a number of Failes over other u/s B's ....

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by daveart on Jul 7, 2008 15:08:40 GMT 1, Good point that some images are stronger and worth more consideration. I wonder how well unsigned edtions of 300+ will hold up over time.

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by Gentle Mental on Jul 7, 2008 15:09:11 GMT 1, Even now, a low ed signed Faile is worth as much as a signed Banksy (well some of them, anyways)
but i think pricing a signed Faile the way Laz does is a tad nuts. (for now...)

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by maadbeats on Jul 7, 2008 15:12:21 GMT 1, I would take signed Failes over unsigned Banksy. First because most of the runs are extremely low compaired to Banksy. Secondly lots of hand embellishments. Third, the Patricks are great guys that I have talked with numerous times. And lastly, There stylie is unmatched.

What he said! This thread can ONLY be about money, I would buy the one that I was going to enjoy having on my wall, I wouldn't buy something I didn't like just because it was a better investment opportunity. When Grannies came out I didn't join the bun fight cuz I thought the image was shit!
This thread is very sad and kind of represents everything bad about street art at the moment.
Just an opinion, don't shoot me for it!

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by jonpud on Jul 7, 2008 15:41:42 GMT 1, Out of interest, I don't own any Faile's, I don't get it I'm afraid, might as well just frame up the cover of an old Marvel Comic IMO. Not having a go at anyone for liking this type of art, each to their own, just not for me.

On a separate note, and please excuse my ignorance, but is a sole signature from a collective of much significance?

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by carlito on Jul 7, 2008 15:44:06 GMT 1, there's a sligh sense of humour in most of their work to my mind, with some decent imagery that can look damn funky up on the wall...I came to the faile party wayyy too late and have pretty much missed the boat unfortunately

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by angryboy on Jul 7, 2008 15:51:48 GMT 1, I'd take most low edition Failes over pretty much any unsigned Banksy. Just not feeling unsigned stuff at all, at least signed you can pretend the artist hand something to do with the physical production of your poster other than just the idea. From an aesthetic point of view I'd take a lot of them over signed Banksy pieces too, although I'm sure the money would influence my decision if I really had the option to choose between them.

Never said I didn't like them, just said they were a bit well "meh!"... there are a few I quite like, I went for three in the FairQ and got none of them. Some of it I'm not keen on, but some of it I like. Their work is growing on me though, some anyhow... with the last release the scuba horses, for example I didn't like, I didn't like the Sexy Ad ones, nor infact any of the prints. The ones I went for were both Hits & Crashes and Shanghai Bunny Boy from the originals.
Prints wise I'd have a few from Faile, Bunny Boy, Faile Dog and a few others over Banksys
Even with Banksy prints though I've never prescribed to the unsigned prints thing, the only unsigned one I'll ever have is Happy Choppers - my favourite Banksy and the signed is well out of reach.

no doubting the image is cool, and I reckon it'll look mint but 600+ quid for such a largeeee edition reallly sticks in the back of my throat and in the card holder in my wallet

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by daveart on Jul 7, 2008 16:02:29 GMT 1, Sorry to the folks who feel this is just about 'money' - the dirty word I guess. Money /value is certainly a component of the question - wiseblood hit more at what i was thinking about regarding an unsigned work kindof just being an expensive poster. I have both unsigned Banksy's and a few signed Failes and no cash for a signed Banksy. I was thinking if I added another piece.. would it be a signed FAile or an unsigned Banksy.. A year ago I would have snapped up an unsigned Banksy without reservation now I am leaning more towards the signed Faile.

in the scheme of things whats a 315 edition?
micallef's 1 colour JD 300 quid at source? and not particularly well printed- an edition of 500.
i'd say they priced this 100% correctly, as they are still for sale.
no profit for resellers so all off to collectors hopefully
