Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by slowmo on Jul 7, 2008 17:22:23 GMT 1, Seen this thread way too late, but I'll stand up for Captivating, one of my favourite Faile prints ever, including all the hand finished. Simple, nice and beautiful, featuring two of their most recognisable images. For many a year available at ยฃ25 too.

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by aj on Jul 7, 2008 17:24:57 GMT 1, I imagine Faile would be happy to admit they're influenced by Roy Lichtenstein. Not that I've ever read of them saying it but there's big shades of him in their work. I don't think it's a negative for their work to remind one of Lichtenstein though, he's is one of the great pop artists. I reckon the mention of Athena images from the 80s would suggest that no one thinks D-Face and Faile came first.
Thanks angryboy nicely put

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by Wiseblood on Jul 7, 2008 17:52:24 GMT 1, Id personally have most banksys over failes, i do like failes work but not as much as Bs work, but im not really a fan of unsigned work, just like an expensive poster, sadly signed banksys are out of my price range I don't follow that at all. The signed screen prints are exactly the same as the unsigned one's, are they not? If you think that the unsigned one's are expensive posters, then doesn't that just make the the signed one's f**king expensive posters with an autograph in the corner? No? Surely the sig doesn't add any artistic merit to the print?
I dont think a sig adds any artistic merit to the print, as its been said earlier its just nicer to have something that the artist has had more of an involvment with than just the original image.

Ok, but Banksy would have had exactly the same level of involvement with the production of the unsigned prints as he would the signed ones. The only difference being that he touched the signed ones for all of two seconds.
I can understand that this makes it more desirable along with the fact that there are fewer signed copies than there are unsigned, but surely the signature doesn't make or break it?

Thanks. They're two artists I wasn't aware of. They've certainly got the torn thing going on. I shall do a bit of reading up on them.

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by dodge on Jul 7, 2008 21:39:03 GMT 1, With all the Faile work changing hands as people try to make room for the new work it seems there are nice Failes around for $2000 - $5000. A lot of the unsigned Banksy work can be had in that range as well. Would you rather have an unsigned Banksy or the much lower edition signed Faile?
I would look at the images, decide which one I liked the best, buy it, frame it, hang it on my wall and enjoy it. Don't complicate matters with other nonsense....unless you are going to store it in a folder and flip it in the future, in which case shame on you!

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by Ruggs on Jul 7, 2008 22:51:41 GMT 1, Although Faile imagery looks the part, generally, its annoying because it's just re-cycled, re-spun, re-bastardised, re-coloured, torn apart and re-pasted back together again to appear like original art time after time. Look at all the latest prints. Banksy on the other hand does have a charactaristic simplicity about his work, but he always comes up with something very original.

Worth checking out if you have time. Perhaps some of the original street artists:

Unsigned Bansky vs Signed Faile, by motor on Jul 8, 2008 11:31:54 GMT 1, Sure it all comes down to the image itself but generally it is Faile for me (there are some Faile images I am not keen at all) unless it is older Banksy like LN or Bomb Middle England . Swapped my signed Banksy (edition 500) for Faile (edition 16) even paid a bit extra and I couldn't be happier. Don't get me wrong I still like that Banksy but I can get it anytime I want which I can't say about some older Faile stuff. Plus even though it's from edition of 16 the edition is so varied that I know I've got something on my wall that no one else has.
Buy, swap, steal what you really like and you can't go wrong. Thank f**k we all have different tastes.
