New Piece by Nick Walker For Scope Miami 2011, by Cocteau 101 on Nov 21, 2011 22:15:08 GMT 1, Although it seems the trend to knock Nick Walker lately this looks pretty good. It's a typical Nick Walker image with some fine detail. If you like him you'll like this. He has done another piece of a street with masses of detail that looks even better.

New Piece by Nick Walker For Scope Miami 2011, by sand on Nov 21, 2011 22:28:18 GMT 1, I think it's horrid; aesthetically unpleasing and lacking any sentiment.
For me, he's an artist who has stagnated over the last 3 years.
I would love for him to prove me wrong, but every piece I have seen in the last couple of years has been poor..and the 'In Gods We Trust' show he had last year was terrible.
And what happened to him leaving the vandal imagery alone? I swear he said he was going to have a change in direction after the book show at BRP a few years back.

New Piece by Nick Walker For Scope Miami 2011, by artylang on Nov 21, 2011 22:55:01 GMT 1, the fact that anyone is willing to even show this junk is mind boggling. It is work for a school girls folder or book bag. Not a $10k or more canvas. Which gallery is showing this trash? Go out and find some talent, show some guts and tell this clown his work just doesnt cut it. Art for the masses? Sure, the uneducated, indifferent masses. There is nothing worse than indifference. There is no soul in this, there is no deep meaning. It is graphic design, not fine art.

Think it is very detailed and good to see that he is putting that kind of detail into his work
Nice one

Unfortunately a lot of galleries will prefer to sell works by a 'big name' rather than take the risk and showcase a 'up and comer'.
It's a shame as there are a lot of talented artists out there..but I guess they're not appealing as they're not as profitable.
Looking at the recent Blek show and now this piece, it reinforces my opinion that most stencil art doesn't really work in a gallery / canvas context.
I would be really interested to hear the reason why people find this piece appealing?
The piece leaves me cold. Unlike Banksy's work there is no humour, there is no statement. It has no heart.

The detailing in both pieces leaves me wondering how intricate and patient he really must be. This hong kong looking scene is amazing.

New Piece by Nick Walker For Scope Miami 2011, by artylang on Nov 21, 2011 23:23:37 GMT 1, yes. What is your question? Now, before you answer that, put in a little work. Ask what the piece means to you, your buddy, your friend. It is not just a well executed piece of graffiti/art/sign making history, but a running commentary on life/love/relationships.
furthermore, Mr. Steve Powers has a CV that you could bury nick walker with and his work is probably half the price. Nick walker has done nothing with his career aside from take your hard earned money. Steve is part of a community and gives back far more than he takes.
My point being, art shouldn't just be a pretty picture( or in this case a shitty one). It should make you think, it should spark conversation or introspection. It should cause you to see the world in a new way. If your spending over $500 on art and it isn't doing any of these you are throwing away your money. You can buy work similar to nick's for a tenner on the bowery. Youre paying way too much for a name that no one will know or care about in a few years time. Great, if you can afford to, but I can't. There is just too much quality to support out there that giving this work more than a millisecond of notice is too long.

New Piece by Nick Walker For Scope Miami 2011, by johnnyh on Nov 21, 2011 23:35:03 GMT 1, Arty just take all your quotes and put them on your own for sale thread and they fit perfectly. Your are entitled to your opinion but to be honest it's pretty lame. Not everyone likes or dillies everything that's the point.
I am not knocking Steve Powers but if to quote a phrase ". there is no deep meaning. It is graphic design, not fine art." which Steve powers work is or are you saying it's not graphic design based???
The fact that it's cheaper and people are not buying is not NW fault. People pay for pieces whatever it's up to them. Not sure Steve powers is the deep meaningful guru you are looking for - hence your sale.

New Piece by Nick Walker For Scope Miami 2011, by Harveyn on Nov 21, 2011 23:42:46 GMT 1, I have no strong feelings on Nick's work but on ESPO I agree very strongly with artylangs points.
With Steve for me his work (especially on the street and the concept of Love Letters) resonates due to the fact that it is a running commentary on life/love/relationships/anger/sorrow/forgiveness and so much more.
Its not a pretty picture and not even technically accomplished but says and means something to me which is a greater achievement IMO.
His CV is without doubt impressive in terms of representation in major galleries, museums and private collections but more importantly he has, not just in his own local community given so much without seeking reward.

New Piece by Nick Walker For Scope Miami 2011, by artylang on Nov 21, 2011 23:46:42 GMT 1, Correct me if I am wrong, but didnt you link my painting to this thread? My comments have nothing to do with my sale. You are part of the problem, you are why walmart or tesco, what have you, put mom and pop shops out of business. It is because you are indifferent and happy to be told what is good instead of seeking out answers on your own. There is a lot to be said for education and connoisseurship, of which clearly, you have none.
cant fight with ignorance. I tried. Carry on. I was trying to help you. Hopefully one day you realize that.

It might be worthwhile in toning down your posts so people actually take in what you're saying instead of focusing on the controversy.
