Its not about who's the New Kid on the Block, but its about re discovering who were the true pioneers of the street scene. Have we forgotten the true essence of why we are all here!!

Unfortunately the Herakut collabaration on beatiful crime left me cold. Their stuff is awesome though check em out www.maclaim.de/ also a good coffee table book available.
If these guys rub off on people who are up and coming the future is rosey.

And what about this Patti, is she a Forum member?

New Artists With Most Potential, by bollockchops on Jul 26, 2007 9:28:07 GMT 1, If we're specifically talking new artists without much of a track record to date - I'd go for Charming Baker, Xenz, Blu, Mantis and Beejoir.
Charming Baker does have a track record. A back catalogue of consistently original work, unlike the others you mention. Just because the forum has only just discovered him, doesn't mean he hasn't been hard at it - for years. The guy can paint. He has ideas, he's plouging his own furrow without deference to what the current art vogue is. He also has fans in the likes of Sir Peter Blake and Michaell Wolf. Beejoir has yet to prove himself for me as indeed does Mantis. It all feels a bit derivative right now. Beyond the poor kid draped in Western consumer goods angle - which is fast becoming a cliche - I'd be interested to see how they develop. There is such a thing in the art world as a one hit wonder. And that sort of inconsistency doesn't make for a career. Solo shows are where the real test is and i look forward to seeing if they can produce a body of developed work, not just re-hashes.

Hi bc. You make some interesting points and I'll check out Charming Baker to satisfy my curiosity. I agree that it is early days for the likes of Beejoir, Arofish and Mantis and I believe 'cliche' is a very fine line to tread. However, their work so far sits on the right side and speaks volumes to me from the subtlety of TS & Evolution to the scream out loud AFD & SBFO images. I include most of the street work in that too. For me the image of AFD under the bridge in Melborne as it also reflects in the water is simply stunning. I acknowledge that in terms of longevity, solo shows will be the testing time but I wondered if you could clarify what you meant about inconsistency? S

For an artist to be truly great they have to be consistent. Either in their style or their ability to surprise. And they have to be able to do it again and again. That comes not only with time and experience, but also innate talent. All I've seen so far are a couple of obvious images from both Beejoir and Mantis. Unfortunately Banksy got their first with Burger King kid. Be nice to see them develop something unique to themselves that doesn't involve bombs, undernourished black children and Damien Hirst parodies. If you want a definition of inconsistent then look at Eelus. A year ago everyone was jumping all over him off the back off Shat-At, which is still a great and original image. He still hasn't produced anything as good. Without that momentum youโll get left behind.

New Artists With Most Potential, by rob123rob on Jul 30, 2007 3:27:20 GMT 1, Well, I think if you're looking ahead at the next 12 months, you'd be wasting your time to not buy a Banksy (if you can afford to/get lucky enough on POW). The 'who's the next big thing' question is usually about how is going to be cheap today so I can get in while it's still ridiculously cheap, and then get rich. So, that being the case, forget every other artist you might be thinking about, and buy a Banksy, and spend your next 12 months watching it grow.

I'm also a huge fan of Lucy's work. She's do for a solo show. Would love to own a original canvas by her. The one on ebay at the moment is beautiful but a bit out of my price range.
