New Artists With Most Potential, by Existencil on Jul 23, 2007 16:48:56 GMT 1, Hey,
It would be interesting to know what people think on artists with the most potential in the next 12 months. Who are the guys who are just starting out now, but who will have risen the highest this time in 2008.
Your thoughts appreciated...

hmmmm ;D D*Face looks like he is really gonna hit the big time over the next 6-12 months, People like Dolk, Pure Evil, Hutch and Static are coming on well ;D Guy Denning seems to be very popular at the minute, Plus I hear SickBoy has some big plans for this coming year Ripper could also be a big player a few years down the line ;D

New Artists With Most Potential, by budoukiba on Jul 23, 2007 17:46:35 GMT 1, Xenz and Beejoir are my main bets, both have shows later this year.
Also Mantis, Copyright, Amp and Sickboy will be much bigger very soon.
Not sure about D-Face. Although his work is good, he really needs some original ideas. Most of his stuff seems to be his versions of other peoples ideas (i know the whole hip-hop/sampling side of graffiti comes in here). I think the hype may die down a little around his work

Ditto Although these aren't exactly 'starting out now' I think their work will be much better known in 2008... plus Arofish, Insect, Blu, Static & on a completely different slant Sanna Annukka... and deservedly so to all of them. Annukka is a superb illustrator who did Keane's Under the Iron Sea. www.sanna-annukka.com/home/ Coming from Finland she has is clearly influenced by her Scandanavian roots. The physical quality of her prints/paper are superb too. Almost up there with Blek. The great bonus is I can keep the missus sweet with Annukka's stunning Flock of Gold print while I continue to buy from the dark side. ;D

New Artists With Most Potential, by Strange Al on Jul 23, 2007 18:05:50 GMT 1, If we're specifically talking new artists without much of a track record to date - I'd go for Charming Baker, Xenz, Blu, Mantis and Beejoir.
I've tried to restrict my list to people who've already been discussed on the forum, but who are still very early on in their professional art careers. I think each artist has the potential to develop a really interesting body of work. My fear is though that some will find it extremely difficult to live up to the already massive hype they're currently experiencing.
Incidentally, a number of the other names already mentioned in this thread aren't really new artists imo. Guy Denning, for example, has been exhibiting since 1992. I appreciate that the forum has only recently discovered him, but think we do him an injustice by classing him a new artist.

New Artists With Most Potential, by alderevans2007 on Jul 23, 2007 18:17:21 GMT 1, If Ian Francis pumps out more work like this, then I think he has got the potential to go far: www.redpropeller.co.uk/photo_756332.html www.redpropeller.co.uk/photo_756328.html
I don't really like his other stuff, but I realise that other people may do, so therfore in those people's eyes, he has already reached his potential.....if that makes sense!

New Artists With Most Potential, by corblimeylimey on Jul 23, 2007 18:22:12 GMT 1, Although Guy Denning has now been mentioned it's only because there has been a very recent surge of interest, who'd of mentioned him a couple of months ago apart from Micallef? (and may be romanywg) The point I'm making is we won't know until after the event, if we could predict the future we'd all be millionaires.
I get the feeling that sometimes people are buying stuff mainly in the hope that the artist they're supporting does make it big so their collection will be worth lots of money. A lot of people 6 months ago were saying Dan Baldwin, he seems to have been dropped by quite a few after proving not to be as successful as first thought.
Frequent visitors to this forum will have heard this a million times, but stuey1980 as a newbie, my advice is to buy what you like and can afford.

New Artists With Most Potential, by scavos on Jul 23, 2007 18:22:13 GMT 1, Just a warning for anyone who's considering knocking Beejoir; I might have to set Verbal onto you and he's full of chemicals and capital letters today. SO BE WARNED! Forgot to say earlier that after seeing the original piece of the Black kid on the bent sheet of metal at Found, that Amp has surely got to be one to watch. That piece is amazing and I chatted briefly to the guy that bought it, who couldn't wait to get back home to his good lady to explain that he didn't end up with a print after all. Good luck to him! Fantastic piece of art. How diverse is AMP?!!

New Artists With Most Potential, by mickg on Jul 23, 2007 18:58:51 GMT 1, I think Xenz (though I prefer the gold work to the futuristic sky work), and I'm looking forward to seeing what Sweet Toof & Luc Price get up to next. The Sweet Toof canvas that Campbarbara sold is great. Not convinced by D Face - I don't think he has a unique style yet. And Beejoir is looking good - I also loved his Found work (particularly the Spots)

For em its all about how transferrable the art is to canvas!
Blu is absolutely amazing but the work perhaps doesnt translate onto paper so well, you kinda lose abit of the impact of size and scale, IMO
Where as Beejoir works does kinda the opposite, from the pics Iv seen on the net Some of his street work is just ok and kinda gets the point accross but when put onto canvas and onto a wall has a real imapact.
So Il go with Beejoir on the potential for that reason!

Too diverse as a negative ?.. i'd say absolutely the opposite, sign of a healthy curiousity in different mediums is always a good sign that an artist is at work.

New Artists With Most Potential, by adrscib on Jul 23, 2007 19:16:14 GMT 1, I'm buying Dan Baldwin as I put him in a class slightly below Micallef (its only a matter of time that people will realise his potential - same story as when micallefs print were of a similar prices, went unsold for months and people used to call his work crap... and this was just a few months ago).... I also collect the Elliot soupcan (as I really love the Andy Warhol-Banksy version) but cannot afford it.... I also look forward for the next works as they are very cheap and easily collectable...
On my wish list is Micallef (no longer affordable) and Beejoir (out of my price range. i mean he is not too expensive and easily affordable but he is overvalued for his little experience as there is too much speculation going on)....

Some of Baldwin's stuff is class (Devine Rev 1&2 for example) but a lot (most) of it leaves me cold - the main perils of buying without seeing the work... he's one of the few artists whose work I feel looks better on screen than in the flesh (again the exception Dev Rev 1&2 which are amazing works)
