New Artists With Most Potential, by tadghostal on Jul 23, 2007 21:00:30 GMT 1, Sometimes I wonder if anybody around here is really looking at the art that's shared and discussed. Everybody mentioned on this list so far is notable, and they all have done some good work. No doubt about that. But from the current crop of "rising stars" there isn't a single one of them that comes anywhere close to the level of originality or execution that I see in titifreak.
And think about the long-term experience of owning art. If its too derivative, or watered down, or commonplace, or jingoistic, or thematic, etc, etc., you'll tire of it relatively soon. But what if you don't see the "same thing" everywhere? That in and of itself keeps a piece fresh. And when it is in a pioneering style, you get to enjoy the fact that your pieces are by a truly talented original artist.
To me, part of that includes NOT doing highly derivative or uninspired work like too many of the current crop have allowed themselves to indulge in. It seems like quite a few artists have lowered their standards in releasing works that are, in a word, obvious. That just seems lazy. And its boring. And the disappointment is only highlighted when that lazy boring piece is done by an artist that you KNOW is incredibly talented.
Seeing as I am posting as a lover of art, who is also voicing dissent (and minor discontent), I fully expect the POW sheeple who lurk these dark halls to have a neg party since I reject the generally accepted norms. Let's see how low it can go (having posted this at 23).

New Artists With Most Potential, by romanywg on Jul 23, 2007 21:20:06 GMT 1, I can't quite get round to why this subject is recycled every 3 weeks or so under a different banner! 'Beejoir heir apparent', 'Who is the second biggest artist on the scene', 'Best of 2007 so far', 'Next best thing', '2007 thus far', 'Top 3 emerging artists, after Banksy', It should be a sticky. It's usually people that have bought recent works trying to big up the artist in the hope thet their 'shares' don't lose there value.

New Artists With Most Potential, by RetroCanvas on Jul 23, 2007 21:21:05 GMT 1, What do you mean when you say "who has most potential". Do you mean, who will appeal to most people or who has most potential to make a return on your investing in their work??? I suppose they go hand in hand.
With most artists, its just a case of getting your art in front of people. Just look what this forum has done to some artists over the last year, its amazing! My art is by no means ground breaking but I sold about 60 originals last year by getting out to the people that like and buy/commission art, just because they like it.
My answer to your question would be the artists that are doing the most promoting and getting the most publicity about their art. Nobody can beat Banksy, Surely??

Hey, It would be interesting to know what people think on artists with the most potential in the next 12 months. Who are the guys who are just starting out now, but who will have risen the highest this time in 2008. Your thoughts appreciated... Stuey*Esquire

New Artists With Most Potential, by rkitek on Jul 23, 2007 21:25:01 GMT 1, In terms of originality and execution, the person that I think has a bright future is someone you don't hear mentioned much (except occasionally on Wooster Collective) because most of his work is on the street and its rare to find his work on a smaller scale -- I'm referring to Claudio Ethos.
Mind you, its fine with me if he doesn't become a household name (or even a recognized one on the forums) because that way his work (when it can be found) will remain affordable.

New Artists With Most Potential, by brut on Jul 23, 2007 21:27:32 GMT 1, I have to agree with the sentiments above. I am not sure what the obsession of trying to find the 'next big thing' or new artist with the most potential is. Many names are thrown about & have been raved about but a lot of the stuff about is very formulaic. The art you buy should say something to you that will hopefully last longer than the artist with most potential. If not then place it in the my items for sale part of this forum when you have tired of it. It is no coincidence that this section of the forum has the most posts everyday. By the way i think it will be zeus

New Artists With Most Potential, by Existencil on Jul 23, 2007 21:39:17 GMT 1, Hey,
It's funny how the cynics always get around to answering the question eventually!
The truth is that the question was completely innocent. I'm just somebody who is new to all this & I wanted to know what was hot. The only way you develop knowledge in this game is to keep your ear to the ground & ask questions, right?
With regards to the earlier question, my faves are Paul Insect, Blu, Kelsey Brookes, Stella Im Hultberg & Tara McPherson. My motivation is mainly that I love the work, but the idea that they'll get bigger is also an attraction - I can't deny that.
Of the ones I hate, I'd have to put DFace, Eine & Pure Evil at the top. What on earth is going on here!

New Artists With Most Potential, by numusic on Jul 23, 2007 21:44:06 GMT 1, New artists with most potential.. I take it you're all talking about "investment" potential.. cos pretty much all artists have potential. Interesting to see the answers though. Small world hey ?
Some old artists with potential Hans Haacke, John Heartfield, Hannah Hรถch, Raoul Hausmann, Sean Hillen..

Spot on.. In which case Alana Richards is going to be the next big thing thing, rumour has it that it's actually Micallef under a pseudonym
