Probably collectors. People always want to be in on the next big thing as any art dealer will tell you. For these collectors it's a hedge against Banksy taking off and to them there is really very little difference between 1.75k and 3k. Unsigned works are a cheap option for them at the moment.

And pretty emotional collectors at that. But how rich these collectors are that are buying off ebay is questionable. Or are they maxxing out their credit? This is a record price for this print as well as others. Funny how emotional and easily manipulated some people are.

Wouldn't be surprised to see it back up in a few weeks. That said if the buyer is flush maybe the urge to own was greater than the urge to bid and maybe save a few quid or risk losing it

You are right. Collectors won't (unless they are slumming it) but galleries will. Galleries will buy from anywhere if they can turn a profit by filling a need.

My last post may have sounded a bit harsh. Probably a better way to put it is that if a client approaches a gallery for a print then the job of the gallery is to find it, and if ebay is where most of the prints are then that's where they will go. In the end it's the collector driving it though.

Galleries have been know to exploit ebay for sure. I"ve seen it too. But that LIITA was priced INSANELY HIGH and still there were at least 6 people just throwing big offers in on it before someone hit the BIN. I doubt they're all galleries, and I don't know if galleries are that emotional about buying stuff up. I think panic mode has hit the little guy.

super sketch. item is located in sweden, 0 feedback seller, next to no description , looks like a shitty frame job, and two of the worst photos for a $20,000 print.

Signed were #/150 and unsigned were 151-600 - total = 750.

The photos are terrible. The edition was of 500 and around 50 were signed randomly as they were sold. Back in the day people didn't want to pay £150 for a signed print so they weren't signed all at once.

I have two LIITA, one signed that I picked up in the fall from the original owner with 100% airtight provenance and one unsigned from the second owner (for sale BTW)... and both are out of 500. If yours is numbered differently you may want to stop by POW and have it checked out. Good luck!
