Nick Walker "In Gods We Trust" 13th Oct, by sharesdjc on Oct 12, 2010 20:01:56 GMT 1, Just got backfrom a distinctly underwhelming show. Pope stroking a cat, American flag with bullet holes instead of stars, fat Buddha eating cake (geddit?) (this one is the print in the book btw) etc
Aside from the weak content I couldn't help but feel that the execution was poor too, none of the canvas's looked amazing IMO and having gone there after the neate show it just felt like he had nothing really to say...shame as I really would have liked to have seen some amazing work

Nick Walker "In Gods We Trust" 13th Oct, by jamo on Oct 12, 2010 22:23:59 GMT 1, 125mm x 175mm print - very nice IMO. Cheap to frame too.....
By the way - I enjoyed the show and the pieces on display. Not a large number (15-20) but 4-5 strong images, loved the chocolate JC that his daughters were chiselling pieces off for general consumption, nice cocktails too! No queues and no bun fight.

I had an invitation to yesterday's advanced preview and dinner and was gutted that I was unable to make it. To be honest, from what I've seen so far, I'm actually feeling glad I didn't go.
Shame.

Nick Walker "In Gods We Trust" 13th Oct, by jusdeep on Oct 12, 2010 22:45:53 GMT 1, I don't really know what to say about the show apart from I left feeling very disappointed and underwhelmed. It speaks volumes when one of the strongest pieces in the show is the print image which is neither here nor there. The composition and execution of some of the works was under par, looked rushed and a lot of the pieces could have done with some reworking before donning the walls of the very sterile gallery space. I'm not surprised at not liking the show, but I expected a lot more from Nick who normally has such high standards. I don't know if it was the departure of being so heavily reliant on stencils or something else, maybe some divine intervention is needed.

Nick Walker "In Gods We Trust" 13th Oct, by atomone on Oct 12, 2010 22:52:20 GMT 1, Just left the show too! Not a patch on previous shows but had a good night all the same and a good chat with Nick and got a signed invite and doodle on envelope that I happened to have on me!
The book is a total rip off at Β£150 as the print is literally a paper postcard but screen printed and signed! Β£115 more than the paperback! They had only sold 40 hardback books towards the end of the night!
The cocktails were outstanding though and the apish angel rice papers and Jesus chocolate were both a nice touch!
Nick was surprised when I told him that people want the Tokyo TMA print to be released!...watch this space...

Nick Walker "In Gods We Trust" 13th Oct, by Jeezuz Jones Snr on Oct 13, 2010 0:19:13 GMT 1, I have said on here before i am a big fan but comments from the show so far are dissapointing. I think it all went down hill when Nick did that black/red print show for BRP.. the new direction etc..?? I dont think it has worked, the TMA's worked well and perhaps he should have milked it a bit longer. hope he turns it around.

Nick Walker "In Gods We Trust" 13th Oct, by aginghippie on Oct 13, 2010 0:50:12 GMT 1, I don't think milking it comes into it with the TMA concept. I would love to have seen that explored further but it may be he got bored with it. I mostly collect Abstract Expressionists and Pop Art where it is far from uncommon for an artist to have a motif or theme that they explore over a period of decades. The idea of another show and another style simply means that the artist never develops a coherent style but skims across the surface.
That's all a rather long winded way of saying I like the TMA works, I think it can be taken further, and I see no reason why he should change.

glad to see see a few of you have lost the plot completely.
rather than hoping for one more old tired 'for the money' image lets hope he makes something new, fresh, exciting or do you have so little faith him to do that eh?
