Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by fatherxmas on Jun 1, 2008 22:14:00 GMT 1, the people that wil be going to this auction are not the ones "effected by the credit crunch"
these are the people which create a market..ebay/this forum is a very small chunk of buyers.
The big money is always in the room (Auction) i predict another crazy outburst in prices

I have to agree. Ebay prices are the bottom of the barrel so to speak... yet for some reason, everyone sites them as the going rate. The majority of minted folks aren't buying on ebay (never would consider it) and ebay sales do not accurately reflect fair market as much as it shows what the 'I need to sell this right now, no matter how low' price is. While I don't think the auction has the best work, I would sill expect it to pack the room and bring strong money.

jammy, ignorance and paying top whack for mediocre art doesn't make them the 'correct' pricing.
let's be honest here the banksy and neate work is all that stands out. maybe the walker mood board.
for the rest ebay is the natural home of their art not an auction house!

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by iwouldfollow youanywhere on Jun 1, 2008 22:29:22 GMT 1, i think fx is talking a little sence for once!! ok not all artists will do big things but there were alot of new buyers etc at the drewartts preview, and i think it will surprise people at the auction the prices but only time will tell
i'm sure it will be suprising, because most of the work is so poor......

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by Heavyconsumer on Jun 1, 2008 22:34:06 GMT 1, Not all of the work is great, but there are enough great pieces in there to fill the room with serious buyers. There will be some among them who are more aware of the "smaller names" than others. It's impossible to predict how sales for most of the artists will go, but I maintain that Dreweatts have put together a fairly accurate snapshot of the scene today, with the works they've pulled together. I will find the results very interesting and I'm very curious to see how a lot of the work does. I also think their publicity will stand them in very good stead, in making aware all those that like to spend on trend.

i'm sure that the smaller artists are fully aware that they will attract stronger than normal prices, which is why they stuffed the work in for auction THEMSELVES!

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by Eton Groover on Jun 1, 2008 22:42:19 GMT 1, For this scene, at the moment, I'm afraid they are.
If not what is? Paying a gallery twice as much?, o an auction price plus 20% for the house

Nice post
My view is
Will there be anyone 'serious' that wants anything other than 1 of the banksys for sale ?
Will 'serious' people even know about this auction?
I reckon over 80% of people there will be from this Forum, just having a look and taking the whole auction thing in which is pretty cool, and should be a fun evening
I think it will be a shockingly bad auction, prices will drop, doom and gloom will follow. Then Bonhams will do their Urban auction in October and life will be good again
Happy Sunday everyone :-)

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by buffin on Jun 1, 2008 22:48:46 GMT 1, I think a lot of the lesser items will sell quite strongly judging by the number of first time buyers I saw leaving bids at the Selfridges preview. I also think that pieces from some of the lesser known artists will not be allowed to fail, if that makes sense.

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by Deleted on Jun 1, 2008 23:09:10 GMT 1, I think that with the widespread "Lull" in the economy certain sectors of the investment market are looking to invest in something other than property... that could be Art. Mary at Dreweatts knows her stuff, she is an art collector herself.I have dealt with auction houses including Dreweatts / Bonhams / Sothebys et al all of my working life (i am 71 now), i know auction houses like to estimate low to gather interest except when forced to put a high reserve on a lot at the sellers wishes, or a high estimate to hype something up, they act for the seller dont forget. This is the first UK auction of its type (Dedicated) that i know of..and others are booked post this one. Taking all these things into consideration i predict a huge success at Dreweatts sale and i also think that prices will exceed their estimates by far. This is of course just my opinion. I will attend the sale for a specific piece of work, i am willing to pay a good price for it because i love it and i want it for myself, its a real nice piece and i can afford to buy it (hopefully). Please dont throw stones at me now!!.

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by alsbabar on Jun 1, 2008 23:45:30 GMT 1, You will have seen the last few auctions, that pieces are not quite going for the prices one would have hoped. So potentially there are some real bargains to be had, with the exception of a few originals, you would ordinarily see majority of these items on Ebay, so nothing new there. I expect Adam Neate, Guy Denning to do well, along with Nick Walker, but there are a lot of weak/poor pieces in there. A Paul Insect Dunce Boy and Mona Simpson prints, (even though I would like to buy one), I wouldnt expect to see these at auction.

Dreweatts Art Auctions π¬π§, by graeme501 on Jun 1, 2008 23:54:48 GMT 1, having looked at the catalogue again, there are some great pieces by artists such as banksy, micallef, neate, faile - these will attract the big buyers no doubt
whether when some1 gets outbid on adam neate portrait they will console themselves with a dr.d print is another thing entirely
