HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by dotdot on Jan 22, 2010 23:13:07 GMT 1, OK, RM have made 2 offers, 1 They will buy the damaged print from me for the price I paid, not market value. 2 They will pay for restoration only. What should I do? Option 1 won't get me a S&S because the market has moved. Option 2 no guarantee of perfect repair & future value could be effected Any advice? Rockhopper
I don't recall if you told us what the quote from the restorer was.
whilst plenty here might think the rm are not be to trusted they are a business and not short of a few ideas... (ring a bell ? - no this place ain't a business it's a forum!)
I know of plenty of countries where you can't even send books through the post - they all get lost.
....if it's in their interest and cannot win they'll cough up.
in this case I'd suggest they've taken advice and pushed their (heard) recommendations your way. note your claim just goes to an insurance company - think of it as a written off car. if it costs more to repair it - they'd offer you going rate... only diff is it's always going to cost you more to recoup. in this case they've offered you two options (one slightly poisonousness imo (lose print)).
so in short i'd opt for get it fixed let em pay and seek compensation / goodwill due to loss of faith in their wee service.
i'd also mention , goes without saying , your rj will be something you won't forget if it's done right and you never wanted to sell it on anyway did you !
so ... RH - let is know how it goes .. and like i said @ the start... DON'T PANIC.

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by curiousgeorge on Jan 23, 2010 15:38:23 GMT 1, Max via SD is ยฃ2.5k, though it might be a grey area if it was insured for the selling price
If you paid for a mint print and then it was damaged, it would demand another mint one to replace it
www.psc.gov.uk/
www.consumerdirect.gov.uk
The options that gave you do indicate they are accepting blame on this matter
Personally i wouldnt be looking to claim the maximum insured value, just enough to secure the mint print you paid for (and were covered for)

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by rockhopper on Jan 25, 2010 21:24:37 GMT 1, Ok, RM have made a further offer. ok hypothetically..
it you paid 2.5k you have it valued at 2k the restoration cost 300 they pay you 800 ukp right ?
I don't think you're cheeky nor naive but they are admitting responsibility and are showing good will -
(if) you stick out - you might get less if they withdraw.
cg - i hear you - but i don't agree with your approach, it's slightly misguided.
rh - get it in writing then get a valuation (don't try to scam them they have ways of getting anything valued - c'mon they do know the score..)
fire them a reply and see what the offer you verbatim.
then if you think it reasonable - accept.
long time coming .. but hey reality bites sometimes.
..
btw - you might be able to get it framed well if you play it right , and take your other half out for a shandy and a bit of of nosh.

Pleased for you RH, seems like a reasonable deal considering the time taken and the way you've been put out. Maybe you could use their cash to buy a Colour Trolleys or realy nice U/S print to add to the collection now!

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by rockhopper on Mar 2, 2010 22:30:04 GMT 1, Thanks for all the kind words. Obviously I've taken a calculated risk as far as the restoration is concerned, and may have to comprimise the style of framing, depending on how well it goes, but overall I'm happy with the settlement. I had hoped that I might be able to buy another Banksy with the settlement, but I'm getting married in November and my daughter is going to university in September, so I think the money will go towards that! Although I really like eelus, not everything is black-and-white, so think I will keep a few quid back!
