HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by Deleted on Nov 27, 2009 17:16:54 GMT 1, Just hope that you don't end up in the same situation I did.. Purchased print from a 5* member on here, arrived damaged. Sent photographs to seller who put in a claim to Royal Mail. Not heard from since 25th Sept, despite them logging in since... so now I'm sadly assuming the following: Me= Damaged print Seller= Two payments (My cheque and RM Special Delivery Payout..) Best of luck..
nasty

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by Heavyconsumer on Nov 27, 2009 22:50:35 GMT 1, I'm not posting as a mod', but as a member of this community (not sure there's any difference from my point of view anyway to be honest - the only one I can think of is that we're here to help out if we can, not some kind of virtual police force). Please do go ahead and name and shame if you feel you may have been stitched up and the seller isn't communicating in a decent manner. It's about the only protection we can really have in this environment. I've been extremely lucky to date and always dealt with people who were spot on when it came to comm's and honesty, but if that's not the case, I'd love to know who I should be avoiding in future and think this is a vital part of trading within the community, which we owe to eachother..
Sorry to hear about your problems and hope they are resolved in due course.

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by Heavyconsumer on Nov 27, 2009 22:58:32 GMT 1, Hi Guys Thanks for all your help and comments. Here are some pictures of the damage. Its really difficult to photograph, but beleave me, in day light it looks bad! I have spoken to the RM and they have said that either the sender or recipient can make a valid claim, and that as i am in possession of the print it easier if i make the claim. The RM have also said that one of their managers may come and inspect the print. I'm going to send the claim form off tomorrow, the RM have said it will be delt with within 30 days, but i think its unlikely based upon comments posted above! Thanks and i'll let you know how i get on
I feel sooooo lucky when I wee s**t like this. I've received a couple of really badly dented tubed from POW and Stella Dore in the past that looked even worse than this, but the prints have always miraculously escaped significant damage. They really should have upped their games by now tube-wise imo. There's no good reason they can't package as well as say BRP or even flat-pack stuff when punters are spending hundreds of pounds.
I'm certain that this type of damage is an indictment of RM's recruitment policy (based on the couple of RM employees I've known well over the years) and have little doubt that the tubes are often used as light-sabres.
FWIW, I'm confident that any good restoration specialist could fix this up to look like new. I hope it works out well for you one way or another. Good luck.

Hopefully he'll look after you once RM have paid him out. Shame he hasn't been in touch to keep you comfortable that all's well obviously though. I hope you still manage to sort this out with Anthoz.

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by leighdrive on Dec 1, 2009 20:16:30 GMT 1, Yep, I was hoping that too. As the RM claim went in on the 4th Sept and no contact since 25th Sept, I'm not particularly optimistic.

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by rockhopper on Dec 1, 2009 22:51:47 GMT 1, OK i've had a responce from the RM. They have sent a fairly generic letter asking me to send the 'item and original packaging' so they can investigate further! Like that is going to happen! These guys have already inficted damage to my print, i'm really gonna let em have another go! Also what do i get in the way of reciept? What if it gets lost? Anyway i phoned RM customer service, after a 10 min wait, and being transfered to the wrong department i finally got to speak to someone. After some discussion with said stroppy member of RM CS team, she reluctantly agreed to pass on my request of a 'home visit' to the team dealing with my complaint! I'll keep you all updated, but this is going to run and run!

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by rockhopper on Dec 2, 2009 0:11:43 GMT 1, I have had to tell RM what I paid for the print, because that is what I have a receipt for. However I have told RM that secondary market costs vary, and that gallery prices are considerably higher.

what exactly have you told them you're claiming for ? the entire price of the print ? or the price of the repair ? did you get a quote from the conservationist, for the repair ?

do you have to? I claimed a few years and a bloke came round , looked at the damaged items and packaging and filled out a report and i got to keep the damaged items. the value was not as high as this tho.

the bloke i dealt with was a little thick. but who know? I would think they would retain it. but until the claim has been agreed it's not their property is it? I would not give it them until the cheque has cleared.

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by rockhopper on Dec 2, 2009 16:30:25 GMT 1, I dont hosnestly know what RM are going to do. All i know is that i paid for a mint S&S, and it now isnt, and may never be again. If RM pay for the repair then there is the issue of future value due to being repaired/restored. I'll just have to wait until the RM inspect the print and make an offer

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by stillborncrisps on Jan 14, 2010 0:42:39 GMT 1, If RM do give you the money but insist on taking the print, I wonder what happens to the print?
Surely they won't destroy it? Tho if they do that might bump S&S prices up by 1/500th as there'd only be 499 left.
But yeah, fingers crossed you get the cash and keep the print. )

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by rockhopper on Jan 15, 2010 23:06:58 GMT 1, Ok, the manager from the local sorting office came and inspected the print yesterday. He hadn't been particulally well informed by RM customer service, in fact he didn't really know what he was suppose to do! However he did inspect the print, and did agree that it was indeed damaged in its tube. He has emailed this to RM customer service, so hopefully progress will be made soon! I'll be ringing again early next week.

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by rockhopper on Jan 22, 2010 15:32:12 GMT 1, OK, RM have made 2 offers, 1 They will buy the damaged print from me for the price I paid, not market value. 2 They will pay for restoration only. What should I do? Option 1 won't get me a S&S because the market has moved. Option 2 no guarantee of perfect repair & future value could be effected
Any advice? Rockhopper

HELP! Print damage by Royal Mail - Offer frm RM, by mookie on Jan 22, 2010 15:58:14 GMT 1, You mentioned in your first post that it was insured for 2.5k. Do RM not honour that insurance value?
Any restorer will say you will always get an element of risk. I have never had any problems though and they usually charge ยฃ30-50 p/h for a good one... do RM pick the restorer? or do you get a number of quotes and get back to them?
Don't know how much you paid for your stop and search but a mint looking one in the UK didn't get any bids on it starting at ยฃ2k a week or so market rate has got to be less than that... maybe 1.8k or a little less perhaps, so if you paid less than this for the damaged one you will take a hit buying another.
