I purchased this on ebay recently, the seller provided the following info:

Original 2005-2006 Adam Neate street painting. This piece was found just off Bethnal green road, not far from brick lane. The painting is on cardboard and is roughly 25cm by 35 cm and has been framed.

In the flesh it looks great, excuse the crappy Ikea frame it came in, just wandering if any of you experts might be able to give me any idea or indication of it's authenticity. I know it's impossible to be 100% sure (especially from a photo), and Elms are not permitted to authenticate street pieces.

Any feed back would be much appreciated.

I saw it listed and my instinct said 'nope'. Lines are too deliberate & neat to be neate.

Are you comparing it to the third from the left and third line down?

Just asking as it looks the same but the mouth looks slightly different, (bottom left of the mouth) could just be my screen but the pink looks a bit bright.

Dont panic- as long as you like the image thats the main thing-
Its great that someone else loves Neate street pieces too- I have a real addiction when it comes to them- one I cant fund!!!!!

In the image from 2003, the 2 angled lines below the eye join, in the one bought off ebay, they don't.

These same 2 lines also seem to taper more in the ebay version.

Also there is a much more apparent change in colour where the pink goes over the black lines in the 2003 version (on the tip of the nose, left eye and right ear) - this doesn't appear to happen at all (or at least much less) on the ebay version.

The outlines of the lips are also quite different.

In my humble opinion, they are not the same image, and unless Neate made multiples of street pieces, then I guess that means it's probably a copy...

gotta agree. they aint the same image ! lips and eye and like spirit says the pink almost seems to go over the black in the pic from Neates site.
The only sure fire way to tell is word from the man though !

Just spent a couple of minutes looking at both images, hard to say when the images are so small.



4 differences after a quick glance. I would be contacting paypal if it were me, good luck with this

fwiw - I've now looked at this for a couple of mins.

don't think it's the real deal - spotted 3 things different
1/ the lines under the eye
2/ the lower lip (round versus jagged)
3/ top lip (right)

I'm sure there's more - someone has spent a while on this - this cannot bode well for the future.

this could be - bad news for Neate and you the buyer.

one last thing - at that time i think his work contained colours more red than bright pink.

btw - I have a pink work but it's from way later .. just before space junk.

if you can , tell us more about the seller and take more photos.

it is so shitty these things happen! I feel really bad for you. Notworthit has the most convincing 'evidence', I always look to the strokes, they need to be fluid, made in 1 effort. On 99% of all his pieces the lines are fluid, that makes them hard to copy.

Really sad to read this thread. I liked this piece and was like many tempted to bid, but decided I had to focus on other things for now. A great piece of detective work, but really crappy that the outcome wasn't positive
