Nick Walker • The Empire's State, by volvic on Jan 13, 2009 20:03:49 GMT 1, Have to say - what a great process, very organized and well thought out by BRP so thanks for that, and also lovely to be escorted up the the stand to admire the print you are about to purchase, just some info for you guys thought that they will NOT be sending out the prints for 3 weeks (to stop Ebay flippers who knows) but nobody will be walking away with them tonight thats for sure...

Nick Walker • The Empire's State, by minutewheel on Jan 13, 2009 20:18:51 GMT 1, I went today early to check it out but the queue put me off and I probably didn't like it that much. A bit of a shame about that misinformation from BRP side but I suspect they didn't know what to expect. Anyway I manage to get inside and check the exhibition whilst it was almost empty. Some really nice art however majority was an average (in my eyes ) Usual suspects everywhere although was a bit surprised by the last year pricing. If you have a chance go and check it out for yourself (daytime if possible). To those who queued from 10 o'clock - well done you totally deserve it and I hope you will enjoy it for the years to come
Where their any Cyclops prints there?

Nick Walker • The Empire's State, by dantefires on Jan 13, 2009 20:22:35 GMT 1, can't see how this will stop flippers though?? nola, vlh etc were on the bay within minutes of the release and were listed based on proof of purchase as opposed to having it to hand. i cant see how brp can stop this from happening? all that will probably happen is that it will be listed on the basis the print will be sent to the winning bidder once the print is received. after all they will have proof of purchase to confirm they own the print. just lets the flippers have more time to list for as long as possible to drum up trade...

Sorry Minutewheel but I don't remember - so much stuff there. Street/Urban stuff is just a drop in the sea over there.

Nick Walker • The Empire's State, by leighdrive on Jan 13, 2009 21:19:02 GMT 1, Had a good time wandering around, but Urban Art wasn't particularly well featured I didn't feel. BRP stand was busy, mainly with the ker-ching of credit cards. I got there at 1pm and was already too late. Bit disappointed that the tickets had already been handed out to the queue considering the email from BRP to say they weren't going to allow queueing. Anyway, maybe I'll calm down soon enough, view it as a nice day out and start hunting on the secondary market for one. Nice to spot at least one familiar face in the crowd from the POW open day.

im back, what a strange one, i was constantly reminded of
a lot of the stuff was really pricey classical stuff, upstairs there are a few bits and bobs, black rat were very big on the matt smalls...the best peices at the show were the nick walker print (sold out ) and a joe black style picture of gordon brown, made out of discoloured pennies !
there were a suprising number of hirst prints around aswell, there was not at recession friendly prices

Nick Walker • The Empire's State, by sand on Jan 13, 2009 22:03:17 GMT 1, got home from the fair about 1 hour ago.
arrived at about 10.40am and was number 23 on the list. Had Sarah come around with the clipboard about 30 minutes later to take name, address, and phone number.
invoices with all out personal info were handed out at about 1.30pm (?) and after they were givenout we were told we could go to the pub for a hour or so and told to return at 3.45pm.
BRP used VIP tickets and started letting people in just after 4pm to pay for the prints.
Was all paid for and enjoying the art fair by 4.30pm!
BRP have to be the most organised gallery out there! Thanks BRP, will treasure the print...unlucky to those who missed out.
Shout out to grant, sean and henry + gf for some good company in the queue!

Nick Walker • The Empire's State, by hero on Jan 13, 2009 22:34:41 GMT 1, right, so the general consensus goes like this " i got a print because i queued up...it was great" "i got given a pass and thought i could get a walker, i couldnt, and everything was too expensive and it was full of people saying 'oh yes, its only £10000' and it was too hot"

I knew I wasn't getting one the second they said don't queue but if you do (but not before 4 ) you might get a ticket. Its the great street art swindle mate (rock and roll swindle), no bitterness, its a great print, well done for getting one, but they are Malcolm McClaren, this release was all about marketing.
The art bubble is bursting, we're in art and can beat it so....
1. Allow early queue folk the chance to buy (like you said half the queue actually wanted it, what might happen to the other half?) 2. Make sure its the best release for a long time from an artist whose star is fading (ratatouille for less than cost on ebay, WTF! Need to make sure his next release sells or we're in trouble). 3. Avoid anyone in New York getting one, they'll want it bad (so release in London, but appear fair with an online overseas lottery, which builds more hype as people lose but thought they would win) 4. Release the print at a show expecting their worst year ever, put PR spin in that the organiser will lap up, getting you coverage in places you would never reach otherwise(did you see any security laid on by BRP like the story said?) 5. VERY strong ebay re-sales, this thing can fly, that BRP are the best!
Not bitter, just admiring the marketing. As I said before they are the new Malcolm McClaren and I loved the sex pistols. Great print too.

Nick Walker • The Empire's State, by sand on Jan 13, 2009 22:55:00 GMT 1, BRP have always been good with their marketing...take the projections on London's famous landmarks for the 'V for Vandalism' show last year as well as the concrete spraycans just before the opening of the 'aPOPcalypse now' show.
They also always have CNN during the openings of their shows.
They're quite clever in getting more exposure for their gallery and the artists they represent...I see nothing wrong with that. It's what all good 'agents' do.
