Street Art, Galleries, Events, by from mjolnir on Feb 7, 2024 22:13:47 GMT 1, There's a great Richter one on at David Zwirner at the moment. Gagosian is showing some amazing Jenny Saville's (Davies Street). Tate has Guston, White Cube has Gormley. Hauser Wirth has a pretty interesting one on by Uman, not my usual style but I like the presentation. Galerie Max Hetzler is showing Karel Appel (nice space and works), and Thaddaeus Ropac has an insane Robert Longo in the front room but I think that drawing show is finishing soon.

Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Romulus on Mar 5, 2024 9:19:28 GMT 1, Hi Aymar. Where are you travelling from, and have you all been to London before? What have you already done?
If you're worried about Shoreditch not being suitable for kids, I wouldn't be concerned (as long as you consider grubiness etc to be part of the appeal, rather than offputting).
There are a couple of decent picks on Brick Lane if you're wanting the familiarity of a chain hotel - a Premier Inn, or Hampton by Hilton London City. From there it's fun just to explore the local surroundings and see the street art, pop up shops etc. A couple of decent Banksys can still be seen nearby - if you head to Rivington Street you can see two at Cargo, and a recently restored rat with knife at the opposite end of the street. A big Stik is opposite Cargo, and there are numerous other big works from Eine, Fairey, Espo nearby.
Further afield, I always enjoy seeing what's on at the Turbine Hall at Tate Modern, and the Leake Street Arches, where Banksy staged Cans, is well worth a visit.
Have a great trip.

Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Peperami Monster on Mar 5, 2024 10:44:05 GMT 1, I wouldn't stay in Shoreditch its a bit of shit hole TBH I work round there.
its great place to visit and then get out.
stay somewhere with a proper buzz like around soho / Covent Garden its still a great place and not a dump.
I would visit: Shops: soho / Selfridges / Covent Garden
street art: Shoreditch - look for the proper stuff / graff areas art: walk from Bond Street to soho there's amazing art around there for free better than the Tate and that. food: if you love Vietnamese got to Shoreditch near hackney. or burgers go to supernova in soho / pizza slice club in hackney / sushi go to Japan centre in Piccadilly (great find and reasonable)
Tourist: go see the usual stuff there's loads of old great buildings and museums
That will keep you busy..

Very arrogant ๐คฃ My wife does not want to stay in shoreditch either so we will go for the second option. The thing is we are 5 (our King Charles cavalier is not coming) which is not very convenient in hรดtels usually. Museums, shops, foods, galeries, street art seems a great programme. Thank you very much. If you need the same for Paris do not hesitate!

Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Happy Shopper on Mar 5, 2024 12:00:14 GMT 1, Some relatives with kids came over from Italy last year and stayed near Brick Lane. They had a great time. It's mostly quite nice/gentrified these days. There's a lot of places to eat, shops, Spitalfields market, etc. Plus you can walk, or get a bus, down to the river to see the Tower of London, Borough Market, Tate Modern, etc. Whitechapel Gallery and Stolen Space are both at the bottom end of Brick Lane. Short tube journeys up to Kings Cross, which is also very nice these days, and Camden (and London Zoo).
Or you can head central, and see Regent Street, Covent Garden, etc... but they'll be very busy over the Easter break... I think you might regret staying around there.

Flat Iron is very good value for steak on budget.
Can't go wrong with Soho for food, fun and entertainment.

Street Art, Galleries, Events, by topper on Mar 5, 2024 12:41:02 GMT 1, Most of the galleries and museums are free in London which is a great place to start.
The Tate Modern, Tate Britain and National Gallery are a must in my opinion. The Kids will probably like the Science Museum and Natural History Museum. Borough market is always popular too.
If you're coming south, Greenwich is pretty cool and has some decent pubs.
If you don't mind spending a bit of cash, take the wife to Mount Street Restaurant for a bit of high end British cuisine whist siting around Picassos, Matisse's, Freuds and Warhols. The entire floor of the main restaurant is by Rashid Johnson. Amazing place but as I say, it aint cheap!
Enjoy...

If you are using the tube (underground trains) use your credit card to tap on / tap off. This is a much cheaper way of travelling around London than buying an actual ticket.

Street Art, Galleries, Events, by Acme Thunderer on Mar 5, 2024 13:54:59 GMT 1, As well this, you will be surprised how easy it is to walk to most places in London and it can sometimes take longer to get the tube.
You will get to see so much more of London if you donโt go on the Underground and probably more enjoyable for the kids (unless they like being squashed next to strangers!).

Lived in Shoreditch for a while several years ago, and would def not recommend it as a base for exploring London.
Stay central, will make everything easy
If you want to be on either end of the city family might prefer west vs. east (i.e., Notting Hill instead of Shoreditch)
Shoreditch and surroundings def worth a day of your time though for the art and food. Whenever I had french friends over I booked a Street Art tour with Dave as a way to discover east london which was always a great success
