Crazy price for a screen print. That makes the counter editions seem like a very good deal

Crazy price for a screen print. That makes the counter editions seem like a very good deal Bigger though, and a more classic Emin image. Although there's similar Counter Editions prints I prefer... and out of my price range now any way!

Tracey Emin Charity Print, by kfroms on Apr 27, 2022 15:52:52 GMT 1, Lovely print but I can't deny the feeling that, for a fundraiser, and edition of 300 at around 1,500 to 2,000GBP would have been an easier / more efficient way to raise money.
My fear is that these beautiful, big prints may not sell out and hence not raise the full amount. Let's hope I am wrong.
Living in London, the shipping&insurance cost would properly piss me off.

I think there are more than enough buyers of her work at this level even for an edition. It's a screenprint yes but huge.

I think the last year or two has definitely seen this rise. I think she's entering another level and people will get priced out of primary, if not already.

Sometimes people need time to catch up I think. Emin is a multi million pound bluechip artist with countless museums shows and sell out exhibitions, whereas someone like Harland Miller is not, but his edition of two hundred and fifty at 7500 sells out.

You're right
Everyone knows Emin. Go to the local and ask if they know of Harland Miller....is he the guy that lives at no 48?

Wow £230 for shipping and no in-person collection. Glad I don’t have a spare £10k for this one.

When it’s DHL delivering your £10k cardboard packed Emin work of art methinks you’ll be glad it’s only a 1% insurance fee !!
The Harlands were also 1% insurance.

Tracey Emin Charity Print, by Dahmer on Apr 28, 2022 9:46:45 GMT 1, Couldn’t you just walk into white cube and buy it from the shop,I’m sure they’ll have one up on the wall, if you live close enough to Bermondsey it’s £1.65 on the bus but you can take a second journey for free if it’s within the hour
That’s a great deal!

Tracey Emin Charity Print, by Horatio Nelson on May 14, 2022 10:09:41 GMT 1, I think this print is worth £10k every day of the week.
And that’s why most people on here wouldn’t consider buying it - because they can’t see short or even medium term profit in it.
Lots of Tracey’s prints can take time to move on primary when they aren’t priced in a tiered structure, or aren’t discounted by 50% compared to what equivalent works might achieve at auction (as was the case with Miller’s “Hate’s Outta Date”.
So who buys these works?
Collectors who can afford to spend £10k and not see it for a while; those who appreciate the art for what it is - a very decently sized (big!) statement piece with fluid, minimalist signature drawing/brushstrokes by Emin. I’d rather have one of these than most of the recent Counter portraits.

Tracey Emin Charity Print, by Ruggs on May 14, 2022 12:40:16 GMT 1, Personally, I think White Cube could have created a larger edition of 250 and set a price of £2,500 and still made an extra £125,000 for the charity. The fact that it’s still available at £10,000 tells you all you need to know.

Very true. But I guarantee you’d see 70% of those flipped within the first 12-18 months. Which I think the artist and gallery are alive to and it’s understandable that they’d want to avoid that in a charity edition run.

Why would they care about how much it gets flipped if they are doing a charity release for the right reason?
Surely the primary objective is to sell out fast and get the cash straight to the people who need it.
What's the point of a charity release where the charities get no money because it hasn't sold?
I hope none of the beneficiaries of the Gormley or Emin print sales are clinging to the edge of a cliff waiting for the next person to push the button on a purchase.
They might have a long cling.

Tracey Emin Charity Print, by kfroms on May 14, 2022 22:53:50 GMT 1, Fully agree - releasing your most expensive print yet, at a price point which is properly excluding, seems like an ill advised strategy for a charity release. Regarding the flipper argument - this shouldn’t be an issue. Once the publisher / charity got what they wanted , it does not matter how things develop.
Also, I am a bit bitter for not having 10k to spend on this stunning print.
