I think that is, in itself, not a contradiction. 

NFTs are strange, and owning 1/5000 of a digital copy of a mediocre physical artwork is an odd proposition. 
But then who knows: maybe you'll understand, appreciate it in the future. Maybe its the bright future of the art market, and you just don't wanna miss the beginnings of the next chapter.

At least 104,000 of the applications are from people who want to buy to resell and were hoping to score a rarity to potentially make some money. I registered on impulse (like many) and if I found the email, I would have probably offered to another member.

This. NFT’s are investments pure and simple. Nothing wrong with that when you accept it is what it is. To the more hard core art collecto. Be very careful. Majority of nfts are pump and dump. Very few make it

NFT's are not about the art, well not when buying / selling on Opensea! It is pure gambling, pump and dump and you need to be extremely lucky to GET LUCKY. It is a very volatile market and you can lose a lot of money.

Better projects are things like the Erwin Wurm which was released recently, at least you could display that, if you really wanted to.

However, i do believe that Heni have got their move into the NFT market just right. The Hirst is a unique project at the moment, however i can see similar projects in the future. They did not overprice the JR, there is no gas wars and paying extortiante amounts (and sometimes not even getting) when buying. You can also buy their projects with cc / debit card, so much easier for many. Lastly, you can trade on their own platform with the free PALM that they give you and they take a small % in fees (much smaller than ebay for example).

I, for one, will be investing in the Heni projects for the moment (if i get a chance).

As for NFT projects on Opensea............ I would do a lot of research before starting to get involved in projects. Many big ones have crashed. Make sure you know what you are doing and make sure what you are investing is what you can afford, as it can easily be lost. I read the discords and hear all the horror stories......... tread very carefully!

What I think…
The “art” is in the story telling.
With NFTs the more story and discussion the piece generates the more valuable it becomes.
Since ownership and authenticity are bullet proof the thing left to talk about would be the concept. And the amount of talking.
which is why The number of owners is crucial. The bigger the community the more tendency for chatter and buzz - Heni keeping the price competitive and giving one to each buyer ensure a larger pool of players. They are also great story tellers. They’ve done crazy well with Hirst’s currency. And a fresh take on JR is clear evident they know how to spin this well.
So yes NFT is about buying the Hype. The hype is the art.

Got one. The image is underwhelming though. Literally hurts my eyes. Can't see these making much on the secondary but extremely happy to be proved wrong.

I love JR and the entire image is amazing but these don't inspire me.
