Whats the news? Its a crazy result for sure! Tbf the signed Flower Thrower on christies is at 320k already with 5 days to go.

Anyone else think this auction is moving slowly? Would it be due to the extra import taxes of EU?

My guess is the sellers pulled the plug after poor results. Not sure how that works, or even if you're allowed to do that once agreeing to consign? It still shows the items that presumably didn't hit their reserve so these look they've been withdrawn after the sale?

I think the seller of the can is on this forum so maybe he can enlighten us?

This is why a few individuals choose auction houses to find particular work as they expect the auction house to carry out all checks and presume every item is legitimate. Not every one has the time, resources and investigative skills to carry out their own checks.
Also a few people expected results to be achieved the same as the larger established auction houses

Oof. Imagine they'll struggle to get Banksy prints in their sales now. Some absolute bargains in those results. Almost wish I'd maxed out some credit cards to buy that spray can.

That sale will do them no favors at all. The good pieces should have been put into their own sale which should have been heavily marketed. In terms of the presentation of the sale many have said it looks like it was done in a dodgy basement, that needs to be addressed.

I imagine a lot of confidence in this house has gone due to the questionable antics selling works that have been called out as fake.  It would certainly explain the mixed results.

I fundamentally disagree with you on this point. People choose to shop at auction houses and with dealers because they are paying for their expertise, they are paying a premium for the due diligence that the vendor should be taking.

You are approaching this situation from the position of someone who has knowledge and therefore, quite rightly, in some respects, you say they should have done due diligence themselves. In reality it simply doesn't work like that when it comes to art for the majority of, dare I say it, novice buyers. They buy on platforms like artsy and through auctions because they feel they are spending their $$$ with respectable and reputable vendors who are selling them real works, if something is sold to them as a Keith Haring through a public auction, filled with lots of other hot items like Banksy etc, who are they to argue or even consider that they're buying a fake. 

The fact that TW have been called on fake items multiple times recently by members of this forum and collectors outside of it would not be information your average buyer would know. 

What's done is done, and I dare say there will be another couple in the next sale, maybe even some of those very decorative subway signs with doodles on them. Like I said, I feel sorry for whoever bought them, they've just flushed 100k down the Swanee.

Think it went a while ago, maybe from the start with the controversy surrounding the name including 'tate' - followed by fakes works, shills, pulled lots, association with police investigation, using a retired auctioneer, serial killer dungeon location etcetera. Nail in the coffin.

Their niche and specialist market is the tat items, stickers,postcards decks etc that none of the other auction houses will touch which they achieve good prices

Just thought a few facts could help certain people with their doubts and concerns:

This sale is a record for us by hammer £1.75m on the night and moving closer to £2m with aftersales which are continuing now.
Sell through rate of 87% average lot value £9k.

Myself and the team are delighted with this continued growth.

I’m flattered that we are mentioned in the same sentence as Christie’s and Sotheby’s and in 275 years I hope we are where they are. But until then we will be continuing to improve our service, build our customer base and listen to our customers. We have however managed to outsell them on the following lots from ours and their most recent sale.

Unsigned Love Rat they hammered at £50k we hammered at £55k
Sepia Morons they hammered at £60k we hammered at £64k
Unsigned Have a Nice Day they hammered £35k we hammered £45k

I will allow people to draw their own conclusions from the above.

There were a few results missing from the website the reason is they were (a) lots and our system wasn’t displaying them, this should now be resolved and they should now be viewable.

The buyer of the Haring drawings is a long term collector who knows his mkt very well. He has spoken to us at length Pre sale and performed his own due diligence.

A large number of people on here have had a positive experience selling and buying with Tate Ward and let's face it, they will happily accept consignments that many other auction houses wouldn't (and get some decent results).

A similar number of people here have an axe to grind when they see people like Danny making a success of their business. Clearly mistakes have been made (Petrol Bomb-gate, non-editioned Warhol's, etc) but unless I have missed something, Danny has provided a clear level of detail around resolution and has followed this through?

You're never 100% safe from fake art anywhere in the world, at all levels of the game, whatever tier auction house you're dealing with. 

In 2014 Switzerland’s Fine Art Expert Institute (FAEI) claimed that at least half of the artwork circulated in the market is fake.  

When the big names get caught out they tend to sue the consignor.
