There are 6 that have listed at both 24/11 and now at 9/12, Flag (silver), Soup Can u/s, Trolleys (B&W) u/s, Trolleys (colour) signed, Love Rat u/s and Stop and Search which from 13 main lots is quite high, so poor planning or perhaps they didn't meet the reserve?

Further if they did sell surely the best way to avoid this duplication would have been to sell them to the under-bidder to avoid Auction boredom which repeating 6 out of 17 lots leads to?

Flag (silver) has shown 9 times this year and there is another to come at Forum

Soup Can Unsigned - 10 times this year and another to come at Forum

Trolleys (B&W) Unsigned - 6 this year

Trolleys (colour) signed - 7 times this year with others to come at Bonhams and Forum

Love Rat - 6 times this year with one more at Phillips

Stop and Search - 4 times this year.

So maybe they didn't sell? Certainly the one I would have thought would not have reached its reserve at the price it achieved was Stop and Search and possibly Trolleys (colour) signed and maybe Love Rat?

Personally I find TW pretty good albeit too much stuff in their auctions, poor online auction tech and I do not think Pest Control like them?

If the edition numbers were published (like all top tier auction houses are open and transparent about) then we could tell if these were different prints or infact the same print that offered again and again which either didn’t sell or the house guaranteed and effectively is the seller.
Why don’t Tate Ward publish the edition numbers? Christie’s, Sotheby’s etc all do

put me down as dim but mibbe not as dim as those who compare auction houses that sell beermats and giveaway posters with auction houses that have been doing this for over 300 years.

There is most definately a place in the market for the likes of Tate Ward but nobody should expect them to conduct business in the same manner as top end houses.

In light of the comments on some of the other threads which are pretty damning and has a huge impact on their credibility, TW should update its practices to gain back their credibility.

They should

1. Starting to add edition numbers so buyers actually know if pieces have been sold or just churned through again and again.

2. Stop selling non COA pieces and those without a COA.


3. Change their online auction process.

A large credibility gap is certainly appearing and their resounding silence on the subject is perhaps quite telling?

Let's not forget they sold a Thrower this month for £225k.

But surely the point still stands. Why does one auction house provide the edition number and another does not?  Saying Tate Ward is different to Sothebys doesn't really answer the question.  

If anyone does know the answer I would be interested to find out.   

Maybe there are sellers who don't want to let know they are selling? The publishers knows which number goes to which person

Yeah, I can understand that from the sellers point of view. But this appears to be an auction house decision rather than an individual seller's decision (unless I'm mistaken).

Reminds me of the people who use MS Paint to remove the registration number of their 2002 Golf on AutoTrader in the paranoid delusion someone is going to clone it… ;-)

I made a comment about about that Tesco petrol bomb looking dodgy - turns out it was a total fake and it was sold!!! Pretty shocking really you would expect an auction house to spot a fake they are holding in their hands - especially if I can spot it from a picture on their website.
£4,000 for a piece of paper that is worthless oh dear dear. No one seemed to run with what I said on this thread. I'm no expert so I didn't want to push it.  We could have prevented that, I was beginning to think I was wrong.
Turns out dozens of these fakes are being sold.

Well I looked at their last auction and spotted a fake petrol bomb straight away. And I am certainly not an art expert. If I can spot one from a website picture I would have hoped they could spot it as they hold it in their hands. It was fake and some poor sucker "took his chance" and paid £4k for a worthless copy.
