Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, by LJCal on May 7, 2021 2:25:55 GMT 1, I need an oil on canvas collected of about 80 x 60cm (30' x 24') and packed in LA. It's already collared and just needs strong outer packaging for international shipping. Can anyone suggest a company that is reasonably priced and reliable, the artist has provided some recommendations but they are outrageous, 4 or 5 times the price of the companies I use on the East Coast.

Box Brothers were great in the past. Been awhile.

Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, by John The Badgers on May 19, 2021 19:27:13 GMT 1, Can I just bump this thread?
Had delivered a piece today which was dealt with Fragilistics, a right top outfit, highly recommend.
Collected from that there London, to me here in the Boonies, the whole process with them was faultless, a great service offered, for a good price.
If you are moving bits around the UK, again, would certainly recommend.

to be more specific i collect mid century furniture chairs, tables etc so would need less fragile options compared to the tux service of fragilistics etc. thanks.

They work with auction houses and ship art all of the time. If they pack it themselves it is insured under their policy

Usually I get charged more than the post office for the same delivery, and I'm lucky if the tracking works!

I have not had an issue with my local branch. I tend to use RM special delivery or TNT for domestic shipping.
These people pack although I have never used them. www.packsend.co.uk/ Jay

Can I also recommend Fragilistics for this Ildefonso77??
I don't work for them I would add, but I know their main business is shipping mirrors, so I'm sure they can help you with these items.
The print I used them for was quite large to say the least, so sure they will help with your items.
If you need contact details, just message me, deal with a nice lady there who I'm sure will assist if they can.

Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, by leighdrive on Jan 8, 2022 14:50:53 GMT 1, Obtaining a one off transit policy is tricky! Some Art Collectors policies will offer Worldwide all risk cover, but it has to be taken out on an annual basis. I work at Brownhill Insurance, the Hiscox policy we offer is on a Worldwide basis, it would just be a questions of referring to the Underwriter. Try here: loveartinsurance.co.uk/
In the process of renewing insurance. Does anyone know a promotion code for Loveart insurance please? TY.

Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, by its all about me on Feb 9, 2023 14:28:43 GMT 1, I am awaiting delivery of an artwork from the US to UK. They are asking for import duty as well as import VAT. Is this correct? I have never had to pay import duty before, only VAT.
Is this an error or do I have to pay duty on artworks as well as VAT?

I am asking because the "countless threads" do not answer my query. I am not querying the import VAT which is what everyone else does. I am asking if I should be paying import *duty* which is a separate issue to import VAT.

Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, by Acme Thunderer on Feb 9, 2023 15:44:15 GMT 1, Contact the gallery and let them know. I bought something from the US to UK a few weeks ago and the gallery paid 50% of the customs charge (although it wasn’t the biggest bill). Sometimes mistakes happen. Galleries are 100% more helpful than couriers or customs.
There are normally just two charges - handling fee and the customs duty.

Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, by its all about me on Feb 9, 2023 19:36:10 GMT 1, Thanks for the replies. I always assumed that you should pay 5% VAT and 0% duty on artworks and that is what I have always been charged (except when they do it wrong). But this time FedEx want to charge me VAT *and* duty. I've never paid 'duty' before to any courier company. Not even sure what duty is, to be honest.

Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, by biggieg on Jun 28, 2023 14:21:17 GMT 1, Hello,
I regularly need send large glass framed works abroad (approx size 1.2m x 1m).
Can anyone recommend a UK professional packing service for framed art? I wouldn't necessarily ship the artwork through the service, just need it packed very well.
Cheers!

Shipping Art • UK, USA, Asia, Europe, by mrizzle on Jun 29, 2023 12:35:11 GMT 1, I have used FL in the past both to send and receive artwork but have to say that I wasn’t particularly impressed with my most recent experience trying to arrange to collect and deliver a piece of artwork that I was purchasing. I contacted them for an initial quote (including packing services) for a domestic U.K. collection and delivery (albeit across the country) and was advised of the following costs (for information the value of the artwork was sub £1k for insurance purposes):
Packing the artwork in a foam lined plywood crate Collection and packing: £170 Shipping: £85 +VAT Insurance: £25 Based off an estimate packing size of 123 x 20 x 78cm.
I subsequently asked for an updated quote without use of their packing service (having explored other options with the seller to use a reputable framing company who is very experienced in packing and shipping framed artwork both domestically and internationally). They advised that the couriering would take place through DHL and questioned the packing methods which is fair to an extent but I offered assurances and to provide photos of all stages of the process etc. I never did then receive an updated shipping quote and, instead, have arranged collection and shipping through Fragilistics (who I have used often through MFM). Total cost £114 but worth noting that you cannot insure through them so you’d need to independent arrange shipping insurance. Might have been a one off but my slight bug bear is that they sub contract to other couriers who you could use independently far cheaper. For international deliveries I’d probably still be included to use them but I’m less convinced I would use them domestically unless it’s a high value artwork.
