Are these the final sale prices for Sothebys, or is there a premium added on or any other add-ons?
£75,000 sounds a bit lame for Very Little Helps, when I thought these might be into the 80s and 90s.
Basically I am a bit thick when it comes to these prices. If I sold VLH now based on that, what would you expect to get with a private buyer/gallery?

Fair point Bren. Think the 2020 fireworks are taking a breather. Def not a bad auction feels like Banksy art has found a level for the moment.

I think the prices on the sothebys website show x1.26 hammer but buyer will pay about x1.34 hammer

Using only this result - a gallery's price would likely be around 80k, and you'd be giving them 8% (using Hang Up as an example) A private sale on here, probably 70k? Either way you'd be getting more than the seller today, who after seller's fee would have got around 55k.

That Toxic Mary result was a bit bizarre. Always seems to be one slightly suspicious result in each auction. Personally love it, but selling for more than Laugh Now and Pulp Fiction??

I'm sure we'll see a few people trying to sell theirs for £50/60/70k in the next few weeks and being surprised they aren't inundated with offers.

I think they have really messed up the estimating.  The only 2 with high estimates were surrounded by ridiculously low ones.  As Christie’s have done more realistic estimates, in line with forum, it will be interesting to see how the online auctions compare.  

sotheby’s low estimating I think is more to do with guaranteeing a sale and the commission for whomever is handling the auction.  They are aggressively low with them.

I know art is subjective and we all have our favourites, but is anyone else surprised that the Fluoro Green Choose Your Weapon went for more than the Kate Moss?

I know there are multiple colourways and editions for both, but could it simply be a case of an edition of 25 vs an edition of 50?

Don't sothebys add on a performance commission over the high estimates. So it's in their interest to have unrealistically low estimates.

Love the KM edition but do wonder if it will date. The Haring homage must have a massive impact. Looks like CYW is heading into the top tier of Banksy editions with GWB and LIITA

Vey interesting to see how it all pans out as an average. I would not have thought 11% up!


I think there will be a few knee jerkers selling prints and continue the current "flood" of prints to market. I think we'll see a steady stream of prints coming to market for most of this year as people cash in. Overall, signed is still where its at... unsigned are unsure where they need to be in terms of value, unless you've got something special.

Whilst there were a few outliers either way I think it is very promising for all Banksy owners that the market can sustain an overall 12% growth after the madness of last year. This was also an unprecedented auction with 46 prints hammering (the last Sothebys Banksy auction had 23). Plus add on the the fact that some prospective buyers will have their eye on the 47 at Christies. So all in all happy days. Especially if you own an u/s Toxic Mary
