Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by mrdeano on Mar 30, 2020 20:12:42 GMT 1, By provenance I simply mean the age and history is correct up until around 08 when I bought it. Perhaps provenance wasn't the right word. I am personally assured of the age which puts it in a different league to a Rat that could have been sprayed on a road sign last week.

Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by Fast Eddie on Mar 30, 2020 20:17:53 GMT 1, The canonical reference would be pages 102-103 of Banksy's Wall and Piece and as you can see the stencils are slightly different. Also the fact that you have owned it for a long time does not add to its provenance unfortunately.

Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by Terry Fuckwitt on Mar 30, 2020 20:20:46 GMT 1, That provenance is solid for you, but nothing to secondary buyers. I don't know what sort of money you hope for, but can't see anyone paying big money without real provenance. So much more valuable to you than anyone else.

My one is more reminiscent of the stencil that was displayed at Banksy vs bristol Museum show which would suggest at least two known (different examples) of the style of Rat.

Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by mrdeano on Mar 30, 2020 20:46:24 GMT 1, Have you ever made contact with PC about the piece and if so, what was their answer. Pest control were not in operation when I bought it. I did attempt to contact them in the past with photos and the info I had but never even got a reply. They make it clear that they will not authenticate a work like this so I wasn't too surprised back then at their lack of response. If that stencil from the Banksy vs Bristol Museum show is still in existence to Banksy / PC and was examined and proven to be 100% entirely accurate to the Rat do you think they would consider authentication? I very much doubt it personally.

No, I don't think it would be authenticated by a COA, but there wording in the response could help. It costs nothing, so worth a shot and you should get a response nowadays.

Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by mrdeano on Mar 30, 2020 22:42:28 GMT 1, I never mentioned price or asked for offers? I would have posted it in the for sale section in that case. I put it on eBay safe in the knowledge that its true value of c. £20m would never be achievable without a PC certificate haha. I have enjoyed looking at it for a long time but in the current climate, it was more important to pay a few bills than have it on my wall.
FYI, I received a few offers over 1.5k on eBay and would have initially been happy if it had reached that much in auction which would have given me a return of just over 4 times my original purchase price. Its only the amount of interest that made me think twice about letting it go somewhat recklessly. Works like these are only ever worth what someone is willing to pay to own them... Simples!
And in all respect, if you see this as another crappy eBay stencil, same as all the usual tat, then you must be blind.

Can you link me the A4 stencil please? If its the same then game over - case closed.
Edit: Ive just checked and the rat and bolt cutters / tail exceed the dimensions of A4 ruling that out but thanks for your input anyway.

Banksy Bolt Cutters Rat, by lv90210 on Mar 31, 2020 8:08:20 GMT 1, Hi all, After much deliberation I listed what I believe to be an old Banksy work on eBay recently. I left it active for a while and received a lot of messages, bids, watchers and offers to end early. Due to the amount of interest and offers I decided to pull the listing and speak to people for advice and opinions before committing any further to letting it go. Obviously, its also a really bad time to be selling anything due to the current worldwide issues that have developed so here I am... Before going any further, I know that most people do not like the idea of selling, or in fact, owning street works that were not created for sale by Banksy originally. I am also well aware that the works are 'almost' worthless in their very nature, owing to the fact that authentication is pretty much impossible. However, after owning the piece for over 12 years, I would like to think the provenance puts this in a different league to the MANY Banksy road signs (etc etc) that appear on eBay all the time, that are very blatantly just £2.99 eBay stencils, sprayed badly last week, by people having a laugh. I know a stencil is easy to fake but why would someone fake an unknown work when you could fake a known piece that would surely be worth a huge amount more? I also know that there are other known Banksy works, of a similar nature out there. As far as I am aware, Pest Control WILL NOT authenticate any works such as this so is it even worth asking their opinion just to be told that it is fake, and not by the artist Banksy, which I have been assured is their standard reply to any works that are not on canvas or screen printed? I would welcome your opinions and thoughts. I could have a photo of Banksy smiling at the camera whilst painting it originally and a centre page spread of the work in wall and piece and would still have no chance of a certificate. There are a lot of people on this forum that have collected and followed his work for longer than I have... I would like to know what you guys think of it? Have you ever seen another? It didn't cost me a lot back then (low hundreds) and was bought through eBay and collected in person from someone near London that used to clamp cars for tax evasion. It had been rotting behind their shed for a few years with some other old clamps which would date it to at least 2004 approximately. No negativity, have a joke if you like but I am after something more constructive if at all possible. Thanks!! upload imagesimage sharing sites I wouldnt touch this with any of yours.

how many times have i seen so called experts calling for fraud on original work. just to find out they were wrong. again not long ago on the valentine piece in Bristol. so telling someone to F*** off as a single comment on a fair ask for help is so useless.

Another post offering yet another wheel clamp with rat stencil, a cute backstory, and a « what do you guys think » rhetoric
From a strict statistical point of view, the poster is most likely either a scammer or a very gullible person
My experience is that Hanlon’s razor doesn’t apply when it comes to Banksy
