Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by nobokov on Mar 9, 2020 18:44:57 GMT 1, I'm surprised that anyone would buy art at this moment. The art market typically lags the stock markets, so I'm guessing anyone buying now is gonna seriously regret it. Or buy when everyone is selling and sell when everyone is buying. There are plenty of people in all markets rubbing their grubby paws at the hysteria and panic selling. Seems like we'll have to wait months before primary art market prices come down to take advantage of that maxim.

Yeah it will take time to filter through to other markets from the more liquid markets, it will all depend how sustained the sell off is.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Javier on Mar 9, 2020 21:43:13 GMT 1, One guy in canary wharf at hcbc having it brings to mind how it can spread so quickly. He could of been at work for upto 14 days and potentially spread it there but he is likely to of been on a packed train from wherever, and then a tube or dlr. 2 trips a day for 14 days. just makes you think how quickly it could spread. Biggest worry is supermarkets are now running out of toilet roll. Better stock up on copies of the sun. I dont want to be left with my prints as the last paper in the house.Which will be the first to last is a tough decision. I think somerset velvet will be softest paper.
I can help you. One dozen rolls for a Banksy

That tracing paper toilet roll from the 70/80s might get re introduced , more slippery than the flags so you'll be alright!

Prints ? Time to cut up the old suits from the back of the wardrobe

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Dive Jedi on Mar 11, 2020 17:39:37 GMT 1, 14 days ago, Trump said “we have 15 people in the US with coronavirus, and within a couple of days it will be close to zero”. Today there are 1,039 confirmed cases in the US. One positive in all this is that the virus may force many Americans to finally admit that Trump is incapable of truth, heedless of science, and hostage to the demands of his idiotically insatiable ego. Racism and lies won’t help contain coronavirus, and Trump’s got nothing else. I'm afraid it won't make any difference at all. They are blinded by hate marinated in stupidity.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Coach on Mar 11, 2020 18:09:47 GMT 1, I know it’s not my place to say what people can and can’t post on this forum, but I do wish that people didn’t post constant updates about the current crisis on here. I read the news for that. This place is my escape from the horrors of the world. (Yes, I know I was active on the political threads, but urban art is inexorably linked to politics).

The fact that I can work from home here in the US, but it would look extremely bad should tell you something not only about the greed of trump, but just the US in general.
Trump will hide all the facts and muzzle anyone with credible information to save face with not only his businesses and hotels, but the entire economy.
He truly is an asshat on a the highest level. I'm sure this pandemic is far more out of control than any of us know. Especially since he basically turned down tests offered to us from outside of the US so he could use American Pharm companies to capitalize on this like everything else, delaying real results and testing when it was needed up front to contain thiss**t.
Not to mention he won't even meet with Dems over a plan of action, because his feelings are always hurt and his ego is epicenter of the entire US.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by Pipes on Mar 11, 2020 19:21:30 GMT 1, We just had our first death in Ireland today from the virus Of course this is very sad for the family involved. But to put things into perspective….. not much on the news about TBC or Malaria, is there ?
But 196 died in Italy alone today. Its x10 more lethal than seasonal flu - so worse case scenario you take that mortality rate x10 and then it tops the graph!
And comparing TB (which there is a vaccine) to a pandemic without a cure seems odd.
Not taking anything away from lack of news coverage for TB/Malaria.
Just seems this info graphic may be down playing the seriousness.

Corona Virus effect on the art market?, by wrigs on Mar 11, 2020 19:36:41 GMT 1, In answer to the original question I think it will certainly have a knock on effect as the economic impact starts to show. I was hoping to buy a piece this year but the funds were due to come from a small stock market investment. Needless to say unless things change quickly that purchase will have to be postponed.

Because they are poor people in Africa and Asia. So nobody gives a flying f#ck.
Now we're all crying for a vaccine for Corona. You think we're gonna send it to Africa when they are dying of Corona in the 10,000's ? I think not…..

This statement does not make sense , the uk has not done anything to cease or contain the virus? Yet still allowed to travel .
Have data from other countries to study and prepare but the uk still takes no action?
Suspect the uk holding out for a vaccine to be developed to lessen the financial impact on the economy of putting in restrictions already suffering from the cost of brexit and the over spend of cross rail
The worse thing is no symptoms are noticeable until it is fully developed and by then the infected has spread to multiple persons.
I was in a queue and had a person a few feet back constantly sneezing without containing in her hand , and people coughing the same , a lot of people lacking the seriousness of this pandemic.
Lucky Ebola did not spread like this virus .
No point putting in isolation unless all countries follow suit or all international travellers are tested before flights or cross contamination will still occur.
the deAths from conovirus are only listed for people tested for the virus prior death or are all deaths tested for the virus ? The death figures from conovirus could be a lot higher ?

It seems inevitable that the rest of the world will ban Americans from entering their countries since we're doing such a fabulous job of containing it.
news.sky.com/story/coronavirus-donald-trump-bans-all-travel-from-mainland-europe-to-us-for-30-days-11955860This statement does not make sense , the uk has not done anything to cease or contain the virus? Yet still allowed to travel . Have data from other countries to study and prepare but the uk still takes no action? Suspect holding out for a vaccine to be developed to lessen the financial impact of putting in restrictions . No point putting in isolation unless all countries follow suit or all international travellers are tested before flights or cross contamination will still occur Maybe it was just a preemptive move by trump to safe his face. It seems inevitable that the rest of the world will ban Americans from entering their countries since we're doing such a fabulous job of containing it.
