It was mentioned that the edition will be 500+500, which sounds quite plausible

If they're going to only do one more batch of them, I doubt they would send the first batch out (If it's something special, or an edition) before releasing the second.
I wonder how many of the people who didn't like this or were deterred because it said unlimited will be in the bun fight for round 2.

That is the impression i got, when a large majority of the people i've spoken with passed on the first 500 because they were "unlimited." The appeal to mass produce these at that price will not be there, unfortunately. They would have to chop the price down substantially to get that type of sustainable outcome.

3rd and so on editions can be made cheaper once the project passes it's beginning stage and the biz evolves with the influx of more people both buyers and workers. This will attract more sales and keep the ball rolling..

I know this is going to be an unpopular opinion and apologies in advance but honestly some of this could be mitigated by LW being just a hint more communicative.
I know they do such important work but they do take the time to post on IG every day, including photos of the mats being created, so it shouldn't be too hard to send out an update once every few weeks to a month.
The auto-response email bothers me a little simply because rather than just letting us all know that we're weeks away from delivery dates they're only letting the people know who ask, with an automated note.
IDK, in fairness to them though it has to be a bit overwhelming to be involved with a Banksy project so this is probably the easiest way for them to manage it I guess.

If they dont number an item when its made and have no end number and then at some stage stop producing an item. the item is just no longer made, it's not an edition of....
An example of this might be the Banksy soup can poster, the museum posters, the Peckham rock

I think it's a challenge for them to sell much more than another run at 500 GBP. They really are a steep price for an unlimited doormat, even for a limited doormat with the charity aspect in place.
So what does that mean for LW? Not sure. My guess is there is some negotiation behind the scenes working out how to make this truly an unlimited run which probably includes dropping the price point.
