Your commitment to repeating this tedious joke is almost impressive.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by carly on Oct 23, 2019 10:52:05 GMT 1, Hello people 39 people have just been found dead in the back of a lorry this is the jeopardy Banksy was trying to highlight. Whether you view it personally as art is for you to decide but I think we can quite clearly see the artist intended this piece to cause discussion debate and awareness. As an artist he uses art to do this.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by pellets on Oct 23, 2019 11:03:56 GMT 1, Looks like there was some good chat on here last night. Thanks for keeping it interesting nobokov.
My two cents, the LW mats that are not Banksy use bits old life jackets and can be used as wall decoration so i think they carry a lot of the same intention/meaning as the Banksy mat. There is just a clear premium attached to the Banksy name.
Couple of years ago i was in a gallery in Houston (H-town represent!) and they were selling a Hirst that was a large red circle about two feet across for $20k. I definitely thought that this was no where near art. It had no thought or meaning behind it; the viewer would have to work overtime to add any meaning. You would just be paying massive amounts for Hirstโ signature.
While there may be parallels to the Banksy mat, given the premium, my view is there is thought and intention behind the mat that was lacking from the Hirst circle.
Does any of that make sense?

Completely. Bless Hirst he started of punk and as developed in my view into elevator style music. And here some I add some elevator can be good. Especially when the elevators full with people and you donโt know where to look and then you start to smell a fart.
And like all things come in and out of fashion. Letโs remember how bad Hirstโs restaurant venture went before he was advised by Sothebys I think to punt his fittings and furnish at there auction house.
Banksy as remained punk but now top end Vivian Westwood with a constant collection at Primark.

Out of interest, which pieces in the show do you think are work of art and which ones not?

The linking of urinal with mat is an everyday object and the art subverts it into becoming an โartโ object. Duchamp simply signed that urinal and stock it in an exhibition which was sticking two fingers at the establishment for whom he was not at that time being accepted by. That said urinal as become infamous.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by teabaggins on Oct 23, 2019 13:58:24 GMT 1, Still so confused. Banksy designs and they produce. How is this any different from every single print we buy , thatโs designed and printed with different printing houses? Or what about unsigned prints, that banksy literally never touched and who knows who or if some random screened some of them ? You think every other item Outside of an actual original is hand crafted by every artist? You think kaws sits there and manufactures every toy? Iโm failing to understand I suppose. Not only does Kaws not manufacture every toy he also doesnโt manufacture his large sculptures on exhibit or actually paint all of his paintings these days. He has a team as quite a few mentioned artists to bring his artistic vision into reality. He is still the creator / artist even with the the hands on execution.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Rouen Cathedral on Oct 23, 2019 14:24:44 GMT 1, Iโm all for conceptually calling anything designed, fabricated, crafted, performed, etc art.
Sure that Barista who incredibly and perfectly handles the morning rush at the coffee shop. Pure art.
That yoga instructor who blends music and the poses into one. Pure art.
That attorney who litigates and perfectly executes and argument in court. Pure art.
The designer of that fountain pen that writes oh so smooth. Pure art.
In concept yes. Anything and everything can be art.
But in reality there has to be a common sense line drawn.
When someone argues that one mat from a retail shop is art and the other is not just because an artists name is attached to it and it costs more. Thatโs insanity.

Support the charity it will have more impact on your life than a piece of art.

I hear you. Yet we pay difference prices for said mats.
To flip this conversation what would anyone pay for this mat if Banksy hadnโt put his name to it?

Hello you obviously have no like or interest in works by Banksy or any sensitivity regarding the subject matter. As a result you have subsequently been disqualified from applying on GDP. We trust this will come as no great shock or regret to you.
