Banksy Welcome Mat, by pellets on Oct 21, 2019 17:44:50 GMT 1, "Blah blah blah" I simply don't care. The question we're addressing is "is it a work of Art?" You said No. I said "You're wrong".ย Then the answer is No, it's a welcome mat. But if you really think it is, It's not a very good work of art. So no, you're not going to get rich off of it. You're not going to impress anyone with this mat on your wall. You're not going to change the minds of those who don't support humane behavior. You're not going to convince people that you're a good person because you bought an item based on Brand recognition. You're not going to be handing down this welcome mat to your children for them to cherish.ย This should've been my answer to why art doesn't matter. it really doesnt.ย ย
Lets not say that art is subjective and then in the same breath tell nobokov heโs wrong for thinking its not art. If anything its a benefit to the forum to have people of varying opinions and I welcome the debate. Imagine how boring this place would be if we all just agreed with each other all the time

Banksy Welcome Mat, by met on Oct 21, 2019 17:50:50 GMT 1, Why so much hatred for Andy? I've had dealings with him like many here and he's always been sound. If it's just over this mat, it seems a bit OTT. Long time member here has flipped two on ebay already for big money to line his own stinkin pockets and there's hardly a mention of it. Name and shame, happily call them a c**talso Pointless to name and he's already shamed himself.
There may well be other grounds for holding back. But of the two you've cited, I am unclear about the reasoning for the first, and would qualify the second.
1. Pointless to name
Why so?
To name someone who's taken part in what could be deemed repellent behaviour โ like profiteering off the back of a CIC (community interest company) project โ is to shine a light on them.
When people have a financial interest in behaving dishonourably, yet nevertheless refrain from doing so, it's typically for one of two principal reasons. Either:
(i) they are honourable; or
(ii) they dread the consequences (including reputational damage) of being seen to act dishonourably.
For those who find themselves in group (ii), the risk of being openly accused can therefore serve as an effective deterrent.
Now, one of your objectives might be to discourage the kind of behaviour you've described above. If that is the case, then there is a logic to naming individual transgressors.
Publicity is justly commended as a remedy for social and industrial diseases. Sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants; electric light the most efficient policeman. โ Louis Brandeis
2. he's already shamed himself
No disagreement here.
However, in the context of "name and shame", the verb "shame" refers less to an individual's shameful behaviour than to the penalty it should incur.
That penalty is a social one โ shaming. And it's the public nature of shaming which is crucial.
If everyone were kept ignorant about the identity of those who behaved poorly, then there'd be no real incentive for transgressors to stop. What it would also say to others who lack scruples is that they too can do the same, without fear of scrutiny โ and without fear of being held publicly accountable.
Such a message would be unfortunate, in my view.
__________
Presumably, you were referring to the eBayer, trainerhype, an account I wasn't familiar with:
feedback.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=trainerhype
I don't know who trainerhype is on this message board.
But based on their completed eBay sales, it doesn't seem unfair to suggest they appear unburdened by decency.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by Deleted on Oct 21, 2019 18:45:49 GMT 1, Whether it is a wheat field by Van Gogh, a grass field by Wyeth, a picnic table by Caulfield, an unmade bed by Emin or a refugee welcome mat from Banksy artists take from what they see or experience and transform it into a reflection of their own world. I'd say it's art. I think second batch hopefully should be by next summer.

Banksy Welcome Mat, by laguy34 on Oct 21, 2019 21:20:36 GMT 1, While we are throwing out conspiracies......what if the GDP store go to the Mat buyers first. Would make sense, go to people who bought and supported a charity.
Furthermore they bought something knowing it was unlimited, and knowing it came with nothing from Pest Control. Would be easier to research 500 people than 500,000 people
Just a conspiracy of course

Unfortunately there is s new law in Europe (GDPR) that LW would be breaking if they shared any of our personal data (name, email, etc.) with GDP.
(Im assuming youโre in America based on your name, where GDPR would have been less of a thing).

For the same reason mat buyers won't be excluded from buying any other items - because GDP don't and won't know who Love Welcomes customers are.

I'm no expert on GDPR but I can't imagine a relationship of this nature rules out sharing of information.

It certainly should. They would need consent to share customer info and it would have to be an opt in.
Edit: remembering you could buy the mat by going direct to LW there's no way GDP should see any of this data.

The GDP labels still need to be placed on the mats. It's quite possible that these ship to GDP, they place the GDP labels on them, then ship them with everything else they are shipping.
