Why so?

To name someone who's taken part in what could be deemed repellent behaviour — like profiteering off the back of a CIC (community interest company) project — is to shine a light on them.

When people have a financial interest in behaving dishonourably, yet nevertheless refrain from doing so, it's typically for one of two principal reasons. Either:

(i) they are honourable; or

(ii) they dread the consequences (including reputational damage) of being seen to act dishonourably.


For those who find themselves in group (ii), the risk of being openly accused can therefore serve as an effective deterrent.

Now, one of your objectives might be to discourage the kind of behaviour you've described above. If that is the case, then there is a logic to naming individual transgressors.

2.  he's already shamed himself

No disagreement here.

However, in the context of "name and shame", the verb "shame" refers less to an individual's shameful behaviour than to the penalty it should incur.

That penalty is a social one — shaming. And it's the public nature of shaming which is crucial.

If everyone were kept ignorant about the identity of those who behaved poorly, then there'd be no real incentive for transgressors to stop. What it would also say to others who lack scruples is that they too can do the same, without fear of scrutiny — and without fear of being held publicly accountable.

Such a message would be unfortunate, in my view.

Whether it is a wheat field by Van Gogh, a grass field by Wyeth, a picnic table by Caulfield, an unmade bed by Emin or a refugee welcome mat from Banksy artists take from what they see or experience and transform it into a reflection of their own world. I'd say it's art. I think second batch hopefully should be by next summer.

Unfortunately there is s new law in Europe (GDPR) that LW would be breaking if they shared any of our personal data (name, email, etc.) with GDP.

(Im assuming you’re in America based on your name, where GDPR would have been less of a thing).

It certainly should. They would need consent to share customer info and it would have to be an opt in.

Edit: remembering you could buy the mat by going direct to LW there's no way GDP should see any of this data.

They are two separate companies. They can't share your data.

Why would GDP be shipping it? All communication has come from Love Welcomes. None of us ordered via GDP. And I would think "logistics partner" in this context means delivery company.

Hm. A logistics partner is not limited to shipping companies. Logistic partners can be anyone coordinating a shipment including people packing and labeling.

The GDP labels still need to be placed on the mats. It's quite possible that these ship to GDP, they place the GDP labels on them, then ship them with everything else they are shipping.

Ha completely true. Not offended at all. I was just pointing out that it would be more surprising if our information was not shared with PC/GDP than if it was and how easy to get around GDPR would be in this scenario. :-)
